Significant upgrade over Tacoma JBL stock sub. Need a 3/4" spacer and let them break in.
3 week update: 5 stars for the price. They've broken in and I put a proper fitting spacer behind them so they are fitted nice and tight with no gaps. The bass is coming out full and tight now. Stock amp is pushing them well enough. No clipping anymore at the volume I like. Now I gotta upgrade the front-door speakers. This is definitely a significant upgrade over the stock sub and I'm really enjoying my car audio again. I got one of those android head units that can push the system to it's max capabilities so I'm not sure if a stock head unit would sound as good, but I would guess it will be at least a modest upgrade with that as well. At the very least, this would be a cheap replacement on a blown sub. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I upgraded my 2012 Tacoma JBL stock system with a new head unit. I saw this cheap sub available at the same time and figured for the price why not? The first issue is this is actually a bit too deep for the stock JBL box and needs about a 3/4" spacer. Not a big deal, just know that before getting it. You will also need to drill in a different hole pattern into the JBL box, but with longer screws. I used some 2" drywall screws. Again, not a big deal especially if you know that going in. The new unit has way more control over bass and has a loud setting which really gives a much richer sound and pushes the bass and speakers a lot harder, but it's severely underpowered with the stock amp which only puts out 110w Max and 55 RMS. I have had to really play with the settings but can get a decent bass from it that doesn't clip very noticeably and at a good volume. I've come up with something I like, for now. If I can find an easy AMP solution I will add that next. It's possible that the factory head unit will not push it as hard and be a good upgrade from the stock sub. If you have a blown sub, this is a good cheap fix as well. For the price, it's worth it to upgrade the stock sub in a Toyota JBL system but don't expect a huge upgrade without more power. .

put in 2009 hyundai santa fe limited with the infinity sound system
my 2009 hyundai santa fe has an infinity sound system with built in amp and 8 inch subwoofer. the factory sub blew and i was looking for a replacement. this had the same specs at a good price and i couldnt find a direct replacement short of buying the entire enclosure from hyundai for $700. nope! unfortunatly, because of the shape of the metal enclosure on this compared to the stock sub, this didnt fit in perfectly. the metal enclosure on this is maybe a half inch to an inch wider and wont fit into the enclosure perfectly. if you take the side panel out completely, which requires removing the back seats, you could dremmel out a bit of the plastic enclosure and get a better fit. the screw holes line up, its just the metal cage thats different. i didnt do all that. i only loosened the side panel and didnt really want to remove the seats to take it all the way out. so i used some foam insulation around the edge and screwed the sub in as far as it would go. the only issue with that is it puts the sub right up against the side panel and then you cant get the factory cover back on. but honestly, i dont care about that. it sounds great, in my opinion even better than before the stock sub blew. i got a universal cover, ended up using a 10 inch cover to fit over the factory mount, to protect the speaker and im good with the way it looks. 5 stars because it works and sounds great and none of the issues i had with installing it were due to the sub, it was just the way hyundai built the factory enclosure.

Quad 8 inch in sealed box - sounds great. Excellent value for the price point. Sounds great...
I knocked off one star on the easy to install as you have to notch the hole slightly to allow for the binding posts to clear when dropping the subs in. I actually bought these some many months back, however, did not get around to building a box until this weekend. Now I wish I had sooner! My set up is a sealed box with the final wiring to 4 ohm and powered by a Kicker amp that pushes 300 watts at 4 ohm. The zip ties are for easy removal as I still am going to paint the box and then do the final wiring and reinstall the subs. I use a pair of speaker terminal posts rather than the recessed binding posts. I just prefer that on a sealed box. The SKAR 8 inch DVC 2 Ohm subs sound very good. I was running two 12 inch Kicker subs in a ported box. That came out and in went this weekend build. I played with little gain for about 2 1/2 hours then started adjusting it up some. They were ready to have more power, however, I want to let them break in proper as they say. Sound is good and they have a real nice punch when inside the passenger compartment. I have two SKAR 15 inch subs in a massive home theater ported box tuned to 22 hz. They do a great job and I am certain that these little 8 inch subs will not disappoint. After a week of commuting and playing music the box will come out for final prep and paint etc. I was smiling all the way in this morning. Give them a try and you just might be smiling too! GOD BLESS john

Pleasantly Surprised
Bought these to replace a couple of Rockford P3 shallow mount subs that where in my Jeep when I bought it. The Rockford's just didn't have the frequency response I was after. I wanted to go with some JL 8W3's but wasn't willing to spend $700 for a pair of 8" subs. I stumbled on these Scar's they spec'd out for what I needed and two 8" subs for less than $100 figured why not. All I can say is while not JL Audio subs these little guys are a hell of a value. They it low for 8's plus the overall sound quality is solid. As an added bonus the grills from my P3's fit perfectly. Are the JL 8W3's better yes, but are they $600 more better no. I would definitely recommend Skar subs for a solid affordable alternative to higher priced premium subs.

Quality subwoofer for the price.
I got the 8โ dual 2 ohm sub wired to 4ohms. I was in need on a new subwoofer to replace the blown 8โ in my home sub. I want looking to spend much and I didnโt need it to handle more then. 300watts since thatโs what my sub amp was. I was really surprised at the quality of this sub. And thatโs a lot to say because I have a 2000watt 8โ K9 Rockville in my trucks. The Skar is solidly built and hits low even at minimum power (10-20watts). Now there is one thing I disliked about it and thatโs is that they say the hole cutout is 7.17โ. But I had to make it around 7.4โ due to the terminals on the speaker. They stick out wider then the cutout size. I also had to install the sub at an angle to get one side of the terminals to basically hook around the inside of the box. And be careful because if you make the hole to big the screws will not have enough wood to screw into. Besides that this sub is amazing for the price. Iโm working on building two new boxes since my receiver has dual output. I will be buying another once I get then done. I would also recommend these to anyone needing a budget friendly low power subwoofer. In the included pictures I am showing the resistance (ohms) of each coil and of them in a parallel and series configuration. I also added the spec sheet for detailed information. As a note remember to brake in your new subwoofer at around 25-30% power for around 3-4 hours before giving it hell. You will notice a big difference in the response once it has loosened up.

Bang-for-a-Buck!
Video note: The rattling is from my car, it is 10 years old after all. But it does help understand how bass-y this can be. Especially if you wear a good headset or use a good speaker and listen to the video. Song is: "6 Du Mat by Naza", bass gets reeeal deep in the chorus... another good bass test is "Bad Guy by Billie Ellish", since the whole song is bass. Also my car's bass is maxed out, because this is a 2ohm subwoofer... I drive a 2010 Kia Soul +, this car comes with 2 4ohm speakers in the front (Loud with no bass), 2 2ohm speakers in the back (Mid sound, with good bass), and a subwoofer in the back (ALL BASS). I am not a sound expert, but this speaker is very good. I installed this to replace my $100 broken trunk subwoofer... AFTER, I BROKE IT IN FOR A WEEK!!! The sound quality was amazing, considering the price. If you need to replace a speaker, get this. It is extremely easy to set up, you might need longer wires though. Worst-case (I had the worse case), you might need to push in the wire connectors a little to fit it (This fixed it for me). I listen to my music on the low-end... mostly, occasionally I run up the volume. The speakers hold up well, especially since I BROKE THEM IN FOR A WEEK!!! Seriously, DO NOT go max volume at least for a while, or you will on Amazon within a week looking for another speaker. Let them break in, especially since they are cheap, and remember... They are cheap, if you wanna go full Kanye Concert in your car... Get a $100+ speaker.

Ok low power sub on a budget. Not terrible; needs rated power and larger enclosure top perform ok.
Any time I read "it hits so hard" in other reviews I just move on. People who describe speaker components as 'hitting hard' are generally ignorant of all the nuances and variables that make a truly good system. Loud pleases them. Bragging about high wattage, rather than efficiency and control impresses them. Regardless, despite next to no real useful info on this sub from available reviews, I took a chance. Unfortunately didn't work for my application of replacing a stock sub of a 2019 Honda- the stock sub is better by being more efficient and more controlled with the stock amp, also having a more even frequency response curve from 60-180Hz (low to mid bass tones) This sub is not awful, but certainly not special in any way. It will not 'hit like a 10 or 12' with any enclosure or amplification as some of these ludicrous claims say, and it is not resonant any lower than other 8" subs, meaning it can barely produce anything you can feel or hear below about 50Hz. It can be punchy around 70Hz with enough power, but it is weak in high mid bass, which is often the reason to buy an 8". I've built a lot of systems and enclosures with JL Audio, Soundstream, Rockford Fosgate, Focal, and other nice gear and the bottom line is you often get what you pay for. This sub is not a bad budget choice, but it is a budget choice. If it were given a more solid enclosure and more power, it does seem like it responds to higher volumes well without distortion, a sign it likely will be durable and capable of handling its rated power. If you go this route, build a sturdy enclosure, give it a pound of polyfil per square foot, and give it the RMS or slightly higher. If you maximize its installation I think this sub can be a medium performer. Not recommended for low power applications or small enclosures such as under seat or for any stock subwoofer replacement where the stock sub is already decent.

Great sounding, shallow subwoofer for small car or truck cabin.
I am very impressed with scar subwoofers. I have this 8" and also a few 6.5". If you're looking for just a little boom to liven up your stock system, this is prefect. I run mine in small, sealed box with <1 Cubic foot and it works well. I run it at 150W (which is more than it needs) and it's loud enough for an full size access cab truck. Note: I got the 2 Ohm DVC and wish I got the 4 ohm. Why? Because you have better amplifier choices for 2 ohm vs 1 or 4 ohm. I run this sub at 1 ohm and had to make sure I got a class D amp that is 1 ohm rated. Not a big deal but worth noting. Also, don't worry about getting the higher wattage versions. You don't get that much more decibel's for the power. You are better off pairing this with a 8" passive radiator, which makes it very loud.
