Vic shares his love of drawing and painting wild animals, showing how to capture the personality and distinctive features of a variety of creatures. Using simple steps and plenty of detail, this book shows you how to create beautiful artworks, from drawing the basic shapes through to realising your favourite animals in your preferred medium. โข Expert advice on drawing and painting eyes, noses, paws, fur, hooves and horns โข Six step-by-step projects, from tigers to timberwolves, and pandas to chimpanzees โข In-depth instruction in pastels, acrylics, coloured pencils, watercolour, charcoal and more โข Dozens of inspirational pictures Vic Bearcroft has been named Winner of the Endangered Species category in the BBC WILDLIFE ARTIST OF THE YEAR 2012 competition for his painting of 'Makaku' which is featured in this book. Review: Great book, with many tips and demonstrations - Although I love Vic Bearcroft's work (and have his excellent wild animal pastel DVD set), I wasn't sure what to expect of this book - usually relying heavily on the 'Look Inside' link! But it's a great book and covers drawing, watercolour, acrylic and pastels / pencils - although obviously none are covered in excessive detail, given that the book is only 128 pages long. The chapters are: - Introduction - Materials - Impact: tone and colour - Getting started - Big cats (including Step-by-step: Tiger) - Ungulates (including Step-by-step: Zebra) - Bears (including Step-by-step: Panda) - Pachyderms (including Step-by-step: Asian Elephant) - Great Apes (including Step-by-step: Chimpanzee) - Canids (including Step-by-step: Wolf) One feature I found particularly helpful were short sections covering specific things that some people might struggle with - eg. eyes, noses, paws etc. But I'll try to upload a couple of photos from inside the book in a bit... Review: A beautiful book, I am delighted. - I pre-ordered Vic Bearcroft's book, and was delighted when it arrived unexpectedly early. I can tell you I wasn't disappointed either. This book is well written, and suitable even for beginners as Vic clearly demonstrates the use of simple shapes to begin the drawing process. The more experienced artist may not necessarily benefit from this information, nonetheless it is useful to review the process and see how another artist begins his compositions. As for the paintings, this book is so beautifully demonstrated using many different mediums, such as pastels (Vic's specialty) and acrylics, watercolour and even coloured pencils. There are many step by step projects for you to follow along with. Vic Bearcroft is clearly a master at painting and drawing wildlife animals and th Drawing and Painting Wild Animals is book is simply a must have for any wildlife enthusiast or animal artist.

Not Bad
I love Vic Bearcroft's work and his videos are good to watch and informative and was looking forward to his first book but was a little disappointed as it is like a lot of books that are doing step by step but seem to miss out a lot of steps, this is not too bad if like me you have watched his video's so know how he works but I think maybe frustating for someone using it to learn from scratch

Animals made easy by Vic Bearcroft
Vic is an excellent artist who leads you in easy steps to improve your paintings of animals. I particularly like that he uses different mediums for different subjects which is how I like to work and I hate it when you have to purchase different books for each medium. He simply doesn't go overboard and you can develop your own style while learning how to get the best results. I am very happy with this book although personally I don't trace the drawings however these are good for those not overly confident with their drawing skills.

Wonderful
This book shows some lovely animal portraits - and it just gets better because Vic Bearcroft gives straight forward explanations and descriptions on "how to". I had only seen his work in pastel before but the book also shows how to work in watercolours and pencils etc. The style encourages you to have a go - certainly a worthwhile purchase.

best book for beginers and experienced artist alike
Vic really gets to the nitty gritty in this book, he explains like no other artist on colours, depth of fur, glazing and all aspects of painting realistic fur in Pastel and Acrylic. Not only does he explain each step but also how much pressure to use with each stroke, so important for people just starting out. With this book you really can achieve professional results.

Stunning artwork + excellent instruction
I love wildlife art, though I am only a beginner artist myself. I have found that most wildlife art books have lovely paintings, but very little instruction, especially for the beginner. This book combines inspirational and beautiful drawings and paintings, with instruction that even a beginner like myself can benefit from. I may not (yet) be able to match the author's magnificent artwork, but I have already made significant improvements to my own work simply because the instructions are so comprehensive. Highly recommended!

One of the best books around but not for the beginner, you need to know how to draw somewhat, advanced beginner ok
One of the best books around but not for the beginner, advanced beginner ok, you need to know how to draw somewhat but I love the way things are explained and so happy I got it to home my skills. It works you through composition, light and shadow and different mediums that you can draw with. I would give it 6 stars if I could.
