Bought this to retract the electronic parking brake so I could replace the rear rotors and pads on my 2022 VW Tiguan SE. Like another reviewer mentioned on here, you do have to lift the hood for it to work. I plugged it in, went to EPB / replace brake pads, received the prompt to release the hood, and both rear motors retracted. Once the hardware was back on, I ran the close function and everything returned to normal. No leftover codes. Menus are a little clunky and the English is rough, but the function I needed worked. Cheap, no subscription, and it likely saved me hundreds on a shop/dealer visit. I’d buy it again for VW work.

IF USING ON A VW AND IF IT DOES NOT WORK MAKE SURE THE HOOD IS UP SO THAT YOU CAN SEE THE ENGINE. I USED IT THE OTHER DAY DID NOT WORK OPENED HOOD WORKED LIKE A CHAMP....Never used a meter to release the electronic brakes on my 2022 VW Tiguan SE but this scanner worked as stated and easy to use. Very cool how it works and I highly recommend it. Best to go out to the internet how to use per vehicle requirements. I was impressed and saved a lot of money by releasing and doing my own brakes. It worked great....

Bought this to retract the EPB on my 2022 VW Tiguan to change rear brake pads because the stealership wanted to charge me $599.00 to do a rear brake pad change. Worked great! Hook it up and it walks you through step by step on what to do before and after you physically change the pads, and able to clear all the error codes you may get from doing the service. Very simple to use, love the free updates. Don't anticipate it working on anything outside of my VW but that's not why I bought it. Great tool and saved a boat load of money!

I suppose since the VD700 came out these became more reasonably priced. The Features in this VD500 are enough for me. And, the interface is what I am used to - I have a very basic Scanner, Code-reader. It really works with anything and did all I needed except for this one had the Electronic Parking Break/Brake Pad Change - winds the Caliper in/out. I don't mind using a 12volt battery to do it manually at the wheel if had to, but again, at this price point this added the speed I wanted for this current project - every model has it's needs and some say they do but do not - it's so weird the weirdness around "Error Codes" and what *has to be done, but may not. Anyway, this unit - all I looked at was the Parking Brake/Brake Pad Change feature because when I went to "test" it, was into the project and as I clicked into the menu, it was so easy... "hit enter... then hit enter... then hit enter... - do the job, come back and hit enter; too easy! Nice surprise for a change. When it asked for models - didn't recognise the first two so hit the third, "other" and it worked flawlessly. Also, the unit was not "glitchy" with if the ignition is on/not on - other unit for some reason want the ignition on, do a "setup" etc. - this unit didn't care - it just powered on, went to the menu. As far as set up - it's sold here USA, so is English and etc. If need other, then change it, e.g. Metric. It's real clear, go here, do this, THEN turn ignition on - then turn it off. I have no looked at anything if needs the Engine Running - as I said above. It says it has not "freeze frame" feature, but it "Records". So, the minimal instructions may be misinforming about the "Feedback" feature (don't get it if not part of diagnosis - unless is product feedback?). So, bottom-line for me and all the other too complex, Icon Driven only units at 2x's the price - and confusing - this unit is how I like these to be. I have not seen the VD700 and may never at that price to see if the Icon Driven Screens are "better" or again just - confusing w/the price tag for "that"? I feel I could loan without a "training" session on what to click through and what to do - again, this one, just read the text prompts and if going to work, it will. How it was with other units, they just didn't work with "any" car, or my projects. It seems with VW, it has to be truly "generic" and IEEE compliant to the Standards for Codes, or has to be specifically for the fussy VW auto group. I hope that helps someone.

I recently needed to change the rear brakes on my 2023 VW Jetta. This vehicle has electronic parking brakes and they are required to be put in service mode before removing the calipers. I was looking for something inexpensive to be able to do this. The reviews on this product were a little mixed as far as compatibility goes, But for the 2023 jetta, this worked flawlessly. I was able to hook this up and release the brakes, get them changed, and use this to reset the new brakes in about an hour. Inexpensive alternative to pricy scan tools, works great on "listed" vehicles. I would say always check compatibility with seller before purchasing products like this online.

I was going to ding this one star as the printed directions very basic with not much detail but the scanner was so easy to use it is a 5 star! I reset the service reminder on my 2021 Audi A5 in about 3 minutes, super easy!! Beats a trip to the dealer.

Now, I've only used the reader once, and it has, I hope, identified my car's problem. I got an ABS warning light come up on my Polo dash, and panicked. It's a £250 car, but with only 30,000 miles on it. An ABS pump costs £800+! My old code reader didn't find anything, (It's paid for itself already, though, having identified a coolant temperature sensor as the cause of the car's failure to start)) and delving into the rear hub assemblies and cleaning the (huge quantities of) brake dust from the reluctor rings and wheel speed sensors didn't achieve anything. Experience with cleaning up previous cars' wheel speed sensor assemblies had led me to be optimistic... My local VW specialist had disappointed me in the past (costing me two days pay to diagnose what transpired to be a common, easily diagnosable fault, and charging £80 to replace a 50p component...) so I avoid them now I'm retired and have more time, less money. The unit itself seems reasonably robust, easy to use, and has a clear display (though I, stupidly, didn't follow the menu correctly, and didn't get my diagnosis immediately...) It wouldn't read my VW's VIN number, which was disappointing, but my previous reader wouldn't, either. whereas it would read the SAAB's VIN... The Ancel said I'd got a faulty rear offside wheel speed sensor, which made sense, and saved me investigating all four corners by substitution. I'll come back when the ABS light has gone, and the car's passed its next MOT (imminent, and adding to my stress levels...) Looking good so far, though. Just came back to say that I fitted a £10 Delphi wheel speed sensor bought on ebay, and connected it temporarily to the loom under the rear seat, allowing me to erase the fault and extinguish the warning light, showing that that particular wheel sensor was the root of my problem. Sensor's properly installed, now, cable routed and connected, and car's been road tested. Marvellous! One job and the scanner's paid for itself as far as I'm concerned.

All'inizio ho provato a resettare un service periodico, ma essendo in inglese avevo saltato delle informazioni e niente...mi sono detto : forse ha bisogno di un aggiornamento (ho una Audi Q3 sportback del 2021), così dal manuale delle istruzioni (in Italiano) sono andato nel sito e ho scaricato/installato l'aggiornamento in lingua italiana/inglese. Poi sono andato di nuovo nella macchina e col menù in italiano ho visto che nelle vetture VW / Audi dopo il 2019 hanno creato un firewall di sicurezza per accessi esterni alla centralina (devi disabilitarlo momentaneamente alzando il cofano della macchina), alzato il cofano e rifatto il reset tutto è andato alla perfezione. Ci sono dentro tante impostazioni per variare parametri o disabilitare sensori ecc. oltre poter cancellare cod. d'errore del motore.....mi sembra un buon acquisto.

Bought this scanner for my 2013 VW Jetta. Had an airbag light on after some repairs that required me to remove the doors. This scanner turned off the airbag light with no problems. Very easy to use . It offers a very good range of parameters that it can access and scan, reset, etc. Perfect scanner for a DYI use for maintenance and repairs. Best value out there for a VW scanner unless you need a very high end professional model. I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend to anyone.

it works but not as expected or advertised, found some codes and some others were not found untill taken to a garage. vehicle: VW golf mk6 r with cdl engine.
