This is a great case. Durable and very protective.

I recently upgraded from an iPhone 7 Plus to an iPhone 16 Plus. My eight year-old iPhone 7 Plus is pristine because I have always kept it in an Otterbox Defender case; too bad Apple rendered it useless with software updates (but that's another story). Automatically bought this case for my new phone. It no longer comes with a holster, which I have always used, but they'll send you one for free if you request it on their web site. They needn't have bothered. As great as this case is (even though it no longer includes a screen protector), the holster is terrible. In all the years I carried the 7 Plus in its holster, I can't remember it ever popping out. This one does several times a day, and my phone falls to the ground. So far, no damage to the phone because the case itself is so good, but it's only a matter of time, especially considering how thin the bezel around the display is. I realize Otterbox has no control over Apple's goofy design decisions, like the way this phone is bristling with buttons they had to work around. But come on. Is this holster made by a completely different company? I'm disappointed to say the least, and I'm looking for an alternative. Interestingly enough, my iPhone 7 Plus Otterbox Defender holster seems to work better with this new phone than the one made for it. But if you don't use the holster, great case.

The first case that was delivered had a warped power button. The company sent a replacement the next day and the case was perfect. I prefer the defender from the commuter case because the entire exterior is the rubber material and lasts multiple years.

This wasn’t my first time buying this particular model. I only really have one complaint about it: there’s a certain part of the hard part of the case, where the camera button is, that is incredibly thin and because of it, breaks easily. I can’t entirely fault the because of how the phone itself is designed, that gap needed to be there. Otherwise, this case performs well. I have dropped my phone many times, with no damage to it thanks to the strength of the phone case. Even when the thin part of the case is broken it, still works; I just got a new one because I was tired of looking at the broken piece.

I like the fit and the protection it gives. Only disadvantage is the raised button for silence.

I used to believe that Otterbox Defender cases were generally the most protective available. During an 8-year period, I ordered and deployed many hundreds of iPhones and iPads with Defender cases for a construction company. Recently I upgraded to an iPhone 16 Pro and was surprised when I got my new Defender Pro case. The outer, rubber layer seemed much thinner and less cushiony than I remembered. The lip around the screen seemed shallower. I doubled checked that I had ordered the right case and that this was still the most protective model Otterbox provided. Had Otterbox reacted to customers who felt the Defender cases was “too bulky”? Are the newer phones so much stronger that they no longer benefit from a thick cushioned case? I’m a die-hard holster user. Function over fashion. A benefit of being married, and to a practical partner. The Defender model cases used to come standard with a hard plastic, belt clip holster. Now a free holster will be sent upon request and proof of purchase. If not everyone uses the holster, not including them by default makes environmental and economic sense. Sadly, the holster I ordered from Otterbox specifically for my phone model does not fit well. The lower corners are about 3/16” deeper than the phone case is thick. So there’s some play. And unnecessary holster bulk. It seems Otterbox couldn’t justify designing and manufacturing a holster that fits the new model cases. It also supports my suspicion that the older cases had more mass. The holster has a pair of small teeth that click into a depression built into the hard plastic inner layer of the case. This is what holds the case firmly into the holster. Historically, I’d typically get 3 to 5 years out of a phone case and holster before normal wear and tear took their toll. Sadly, in less than two months, the lip of the above mentioned depression wore through or broke off. It’s hard for me to guess whether this case is more fragile, if I got a defective unit or what. On the plus side, Otterbox is shipping a replacement case under warranty. Hopefully the new case will hold up better. Time will tell. But so far my impressions and experience don’t give the same confidence that I’m used to having with the Otterbox Defender cases.

Not my first Otterbox product. Fits my new phone perfectly and allows for easy access to the camera button. I bought a separate screen cover and my phone is now well protected.
