It's samurai vs. aliens! The samurai didn't stand a chance. First, the aliens invaded Japan. Next, they took all the jobs. And then they confiscated everyone's swords. So what does a hotheaded former samurai like Gintoki "Gin" Sakata do to make ends meet? Take any odd job that comes his way, even if it means losing his dignity. Nobody with Naturally Wavy Hair Can Be That Bad Sleazy alien moneylenders, monsters on the rampage, and a ticking time bomb may all be in a day's work for Gin, but a drop in his blood sugar level means trouble for everyone! Review: Arrives in good condition - Great first book Review: One of the best series ever - I started gintama by watching the anime. It was really hilarious so I decided to read the manga online. At first I didn't like the manga but I still continued reading it. I've been reading gintama for 3 years now and I must say that Gintama is one of the best anime/manga that I've ever seen. It's the only manga that I never stopped reading because I usually lose interest in a manga after a year. Gintama is like a combination of every genre that I like. Comedy, trolling, action, and drama. Gintama is funny as heck but when it comes to drama, it will never fail to make you cry, or at least, shed a tear. Gintama is also a very extraordinary series. Unlike most mangas where the protagonist becomes stronger and stronger as time passes by and ultimately becomes a hero, in this series, the protagonist, Gintoki, has been through that stage and is now living in poverty, doing all kinds of jobs to live by. It shows us the life of a hero after winning or in Gintoki's case, being defeated in a battle. Another thing is that there are no special moves that they'd yell before attacking. Just plain, raw strength and awesomeness. I also like how Gintama is being told through mini-chapters. Yes, some of them are just plain hilarious and has no connection to the main story plot but it's still hilarious, so it doesn't bother me. Unlike the big three anime/manga where the quality is awesome, Gintama has a very simple but clean and detailed.

How can you not love a guy with naturally wavy hair?!
It's Gintama just the way you love it but in manga and it comes with a different story from author Hideaki Sorachi! As we all know the manga is often overshadowed by it's anime so it doesn't get a whole lot of attention but the jokes still hit just as hard here, you can almost read it the character's voices!.. I'm happy to say Viz's translation is great as well. We all know how challenging it is to translate Gintama after all. This is definitely worth picking up if you're a Gintama fan who's only experienced the series by the anime. Also, here's hoping Viz Media can pick up the series again and finish the remaining volumes.

Quality cover materials
Typical manga purchase and everything was as you would expect it to be. However, the cover of this volume was of unusually high quality. I'm not sure if its typical of Gintama tankoban in general or not, but it felt a lot...silkyer? Then the rest of the manga I own.

\(^o^)/ Awesome!
I've seen the anime and started reading the manga .It's very entertaining, there's comedy, drama, more comedy ,some touching moments , and even more comedy. You'll laugh and cry at the same time. Gin is a monster, Kagura is badass and Shinpachi is well Shinpachi.

Hamster Wheels
Probably the most coherent tragic comedy seen in this form. Note Lesson 4.

Gintama é gintama
Mangá maravilhoso e a edição é ótima. Às vezes fica com um desconto bom aqui na Amazon, o que eu achei meio surpreendente. Infelizmente nunca chegaram a publicar a obra no Brasil.

gintama-humour for the clinically insane
I've loved this series since I first set eyes on the fansubbed anime back a few months ago. If you can suspend all your regular systems of belief that Peacemaker and Rurouni Kenshin might have taught you about the Edo period, you will undoubtedly have fun with this. The Gintama-fied version of the once fearsome Shinsengumi had me in stitches: Okita is no longer sweet, childish and playful-he's now a crazy person carrying around a rocket launcher trying to off his boss at any oppurtune moment. Kondo is now a complete buffoon (and crazy person) trying to stalk Shinpachi's sister...and failing miserably. And the long suffering Hijikata is now-you guessed it! a crazy person-desperately holding on to what remains of his sanity while keeping his subordinates under control, and kicking the stuffing out of them in the process. Oh yes; and the famous rebel bomber Katsura now has a giant pet duck named 'Elizabeth' who might just be an hairy old man in disuise. Its stupid, its crude, and its crazy, but good grief its funny. Special mention must also go to our protagonist Gintoki, whose hilariously cynical and philosophical approach to life, even in the most off-the-wall situation, is a breath of fresh air into a genre where most of the heroes are cardboard cut-out sterotypes that spout 'I want to become stronger!' over and over again. And believe it or not, there is a decent storyline hidden in there too; so even if you don't like the 'client of the day' theme, I beg of you to just hang in there and you won't be disappointed! The only thing I find disappointing with the manga adaptation is that Katsura no longer has his famous line-'Zura ja nai! KATSURA desu!' which is a great shame and an unjustifiable change. Other than that, full marks go to this comedy/action masterpiece, Gintama truly wins the gold (or silver!!) award for the best series to grace Shonen Jump since Naruto. Lets 'pray' for english release of the anime soon! (puns intended) 5/5
