The Campout Cookbook

I originally bought this cute cookbook from a local kids museum that sits across from a campground by the beach. It has a cute retro vintage vibe to it with the illustrations. The recipes all look interesting and delicious. Don't listen to the naysayers reviews that state the recipes are too California yuppy (eye roll) or complicated, or ingredients aren’t feasible or accessible. Like the review that states grocery stores don't have lamb or jicama? All the ones I go to, do! But yes, maybe Walmart won’t carry those items.And Yes, the book isn't your standard easy campfire recipes. But thats what I happened to love about it. I have other cookbooks for just that.So after falling in love with this cookbook I decided to purchase one for my foodie sister. She travels in a very nice RV. And even though that’s considered more glamping than camping! I knew she would appreciate it. I found the identical book on amazon and for wayyy less than the museum. Even though I didn’t mind paying the inflated cost at the museum because it goes to a good cause (keeping the small museum afloat) Buy this book! Its a super cute gift for the camper/traveler/cook!

I recently purchased 3 highly rated (on Amazon) camping cookbooks, as an excited inspiration for next summer's Airstream trip to the US East coast and Northeast Canada. Can't wait!! This, by far, was my very favorite camping cookbook. The intro reads, "for survivalists with standards" and that is the key to this wonderful book. I love the outdoors, camping has always been a favorite activity since my husband and i got married many moons ago. Nowadays, my friends and I always "gourmet camp" and if you are into that, this book is for you! It is SO much fun, besides recipes (trail snacks, adult beverages, sides, breakfasts, main meals) it has games and many useful real suggestions for things to make your camp experience perfect! I laughed out loud reading many of the chapters, its like reading your funniest girlfriend's (or guy friend's) very useful and very original camping suggestions. Just loved it so much I'm purchasing 4 more copies to send to my camping buddies..its January here but this book inspires laughs and dreaming about that next camping trip.. it is truly wonderful. If you enjoy the outdoors and camping..but still enjoy your yummy food and drink, this book is for YOU! It's more than just a cookbook...its a whole camping experience. It's a little getaway. Plus, the chapter on different combos to make S'Mores... priceless! Just loved this book. Cannot wait to try out the recipes and cooking techniques. Nothing too complicated and lots of great advice. The recipes look easy and amazing combinations. Happy Camping!

I purchased this as a gift for my partner and he LOVED it. We both love camping and this has so many great ideas for recipes that are out of the box to try and also has tons of easy ones too! This is a great gift for anyone who loves the outdoors or loves to cook.

Listen, I'm just gonna be real here.... I saw this book at a local bookstore and was absolutely drawn to the cover. It just feels nice and has almost a wood grain texture! I wouldn't even necessarily call it a cookbook, its much more than that. There are stories and other helpful camping hints in there as well. Some of the recipes seem a bit much for me, as I'm normally a scrambled eggs, hot dogs, and marshmallows type of camper, but I could see that with this book and some proper planning, it would be a great thing to use prior to and on a camping trip with the family.I docked 1 star simply because like I said the recipes seem a bit weird to me and a little ingredient heavy, but the book is still a good value and a good reading experience.

You’re not supposed to judge a book by it’s cover... but look at this thing! It’s gorgeous! I have it sitting out anywhere in my home for a little flair ;) . BETTER than that... it’s chock full of useful information! Keep in mind some recipes are for the camp out and some are for making at home to take with you (good lasting camp food). Someone who hasn’t been past the beginning of the book may not know better. I like that it’s in sequence and talks about pre-camp. The recipes for camp also have an at home method so you can enjoy these anytime. I’m a sucker for illustration and these are gorgeous. This book is just art to me... I haven’t gone camping in a while but this helps me get in the mood when I’m getting a craving for it. LOL i might need a new copy if I DO go camp soon because I really don’t want a speck of dirt on this beautiful thing. Such an art piece, I love it so much

I bought this book as a "camper warmer" gift for a friend who has a new mini-Airstream, and when it arrived, I couldn't resist perusing it myself. Everything about this book is beautiful, from the lovely textured cover, to the how-to sections on how to pack the best camping kitchen and pantry. This books is charming, entertaining and full of wonderful ideas for how to prepare a wonderful camping trip! My next camping trip is in two weeks (when I plan on gifting the book to my friend) but you can be sure I will use the tips for myself before I head out!

Absolutely love it! Great buy. Fun recipes, fun ideas, good tips. Love the leather cover and water proof pages. Love how it is written for the recipes, what to do before you leave to go camping and what to do at camp site. Makes cooking food very easy while camping. An very gourmet. My family of all liked all the recipes. I liked that it also had snacks and drinks along with breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I highly recommend it!

Bought this beautiful hardcover as a gift for a cook that loves to camp. They were very excited about the section on cast iron cooking and the book format. The only improvement I could see would be to have cover & weight more suitable for outdoor use.

Good book, can use the ideas in the back garden when unable to get out and about. Family have enjoyed the bits we have tried.

Really pretty book, my bf really liked it, can't wait to try the recipes!
