TropiShade 9 ft Bronze Aluminum Patio Umbrella with Rust Polyester Cover (Base not included)

This umbrella is a good bargain in my opinion. It is well constructed and looks wonderful. The mechanism that raises and lowers is easy to operate and works flawlessly. I rate it 5 stars even though the umbrella material is somewhat thin, doesn't provide complete shade from the strong, mid-day sun, and will likely not last for more than a few years. But it is well-priced when you consider that it is sturdy and really good looking. It did come out of its stand the other day when a big gust of monsoon wind blew through my yard, but it wasn't a bit damaged. (My fault, really, for not putting the umbrella away when it was obviously windy). I recommend this umbrella, but add that you should use a heavy duty stand. A 25-pound stand, for example, is not heavy enough if the umbrella will stand alone (i.e. without a table).

Right now I am really thrilled with this purchase. I had looked at several places and was actually going to buy an umbrella for $30 more at Home Depot, and because delivery from there was long I came to Amazon and after researching and reading the reviews I settled on this umbrella. This was to replace an umbrella that I had had for several years that succumbed to a storm last year, when I forgot to take it down, but the material also getting way too worn out. It was much heavier than this one and I couldn't put it in and out of the table and stand by myself, and in a storm my only recourse, therefore, was closing the umbrella. Fast forward to this one. I had Prime delivery, so it was delivered within two days (yeah!!!) I was able to set the umbrella up all by myself, through the middle of the table and into the stand easily. Now here's why I also love this umbrella. The button disconnect on the pole for the umbrella itself is low enough for me, at age 60 and 5 feet 4 inches, to reach, so if the forecast is for particularly bad storms where I might not want to just close and tie the umbrella, I can take it off completely in less than a minute and bring it inside. Will this umbrella last for the good amount of years that the last one did? I don't know, but with the fact that I can handle this one much easier, and by myself, it will certainly help. I have had this umbrella up for about six weeks now and it looks beautiful. I compare and read reviews extensively when buying all kinds of products, so I am writing this review to hopefully help others in what they decide to purchase. As another reviewer said, I wouldn't hesitate with this umbrella.

This is our family's first patio umbrella (as we are No Cal refugees relocated to SoCal). The umbrella so far seems just great. 3 way tilt, easy up & down motion. Yes, the crank does seem a little flimsy, but is fine. Some reviewers have complained that the umbrella seems flimsy as the center pole is made of aluminum. Yes, aluminum is light weight and the umbrella will start to move in the wind; but again this doesn't seem like a deal breaker or even any problem whatsoever. Our mistake was not noticing that the base is NOT included. The base is pictured here on Amazon. After you pay another $30-$40 for the base, I'm not exactly sure it's such a bargin, but perhaps all patio umbrellas come with base not included? However, all umbrella photos do not include the base like this one does, which seems a bit more fair when advertising. We made an assumption. Anyhow, if you missed the fine print: No base included (despite the picture). Other than that very small surprise, we're very happy with our purchase and would feel comfortable recommending it.

*** REVIEW UPDATE, NOV 3, 2015 *** This patio umbrella served its purpose for a good 18 months in Southern California heat and sunshine; last week, the fabric tore at the end of two ribs (the metal "arms" that keep the umbrella taut and secure when fully open). I kept it open the entire time except the brief winter of 2014. Maybe if I had closed it more often, the fabric would have lasted longer, but I can't complain. It really did provide a tremendous amount of shade on my balcony. I will gladly purchase another one. One day, I accidentally left it open on my patio on an extremely windy day. When I got home, my neighbor told me that the wind blew it (and the 30-lb base) over my 3rd floor balcony but it was left dangling over the railing. Then another gust of wind blew the whole thing over and landed on the yard below. THREE STORIES BELOW. When I brought the umbrella back into my condo, I was bracing myself for the worst and was angry with myself for leaving it out after only having it for about a week. I was SHOCKED at how little damage there was to it. I was expecting tears in the fabric and the metal framework to be completely broken after such a fall, but the umbrella looked as if it hadn't even blown itself over and down three stories! I am happy to report that it's still in excellent condition four months later. I am extremely pleased with its construction, quality, and the cool shade that it has provided in very warm, sunny Southern California weather.

I'm very satisfied with this inexpensive umbrella. I have a very nice base that it screws into and that keeps it very secure. I don't leave it open in the wind so I am not expecting the umbrella to fly off and break like other reviewers have had happen. I think the crank motion is very nice for this price range, I think the color is beautiful. I have this on a front yard patio furniture set so it needs to look nice as anyone driving by can see it. I have had it for a few months and it gets full son and it still looks new. Ok, more than a year later this umbrella is very faded, it still works well and hasn't had any problems. I think the fading is acceptable if it were not in my front yard. I will be buying another soon to freshen up the appearance of the yard. I figure $5 a month isn't bad for a focal piece I use often if I buy a new one every year and a half. I can probably sell the old one at a garage sale. I really do like the umbrella otherwise which is why i will continue to buy these.

It is not a bad umbrella. It does what it's supposed to do - it provides a some shade in the sun. Now I am being nitpicky here - but you do get what you pay for. The fabric is a bit thin, and you can definitely tell it's cheap polyester. I used to have one of those umbrellas from Pottery Barn - and it's a huge difference in quality (and in price too -- I think I paid over $200 for the Pottery Barn ones). The Pottery Barn ones have a nice, thick canvas material that feels more like a solid, substantial umbrella that you'd see at high end resorts. Not so much with this one... I guess I'll just keep this flimsy one and use it for the time being -- but I don't think I'd buy it again when it's time to throw it out. Lesson humbly learned.

We received this in March 2017 and waited until it had a year's worth of 'wear' to review it. We live in Piedmont NC (winters down to 10ish with 10 or so inches of snow over the winter and up to 95ish in the hot thunderstormy summers). We have left it out all year and have had no problems at all. Actually we were looking at it last night and my wife said 'it still looks brand new'. No fading, still a nice crisp color. To no fault of the product but due to our forgetfulness...we did leave it open once and while at work we had a thunderstorm with high winds. When I came home the umbrella had taken a 10 yard flight but suffered no damages. I guess we can wholeheartedly say it is durable :). No problems with raising or lowering it. When this one eventually wears out we will certainly buy another one of these. Great product! We use this with the DC America UBP18181-BR 18-Inch Cast Stone Umbrella Base.

Sooo, if you're planning a nice lunch or dinner on your patio & it happens to start raining...have your raincoat ready! I was soooo pleased with the color, structure, & size until it started raining in Pittsburgh across 2 full days-sometimes moderate and sometimes light rainfall. WHAT A SHOCK TO DISCOVER MY WILD BIRD SEED TRAYS WITH COSTLY SEED (50lbs of hulled sunflower seed from Amazon is $116-125/bag) WAS SOAKING WET!!!!! When I looked up at the wide 9' interior, droplets of water were leaking thru the fabric everywhere and the seed trays contained wet seed in porous trays and puddles in plastic, nonporous seed trays! I am shocked & disappointed in this beautiful product...& I bought 3 of them to protect bird feeders of all sorts beneath them. When I call Amazon (whom I love) to bitch about these umbrellas as soon as I'm done with this review; I'm going to ask them to pay for waterproofing supplies to ensure the costly bird seed stays dry or I'll be returning them. I am shocked because no matter what the purpose of the umbrellas, you want to remain dry while sitting under them...right????? PS. I'd take a picture & upload it if I knew how...

I was expecting the umbrella to be more of an off white. This is actually beige. Its a bother sending it back so I may try and buy a replacement canopy. Fingers crossed!

The umbrella was just what I needed, but it was too big for an apartment patio. The umbrella was well made and I liked the features on it which allowed it to bend.
