its not a great iron, thats for sure, but i wouldnt expect it to be a hakko at this price. ive only used it a few times, but it works. its a great addition to add a lot of utility to your 3d prints, and if you like to print useful, functional items, i would highly recommend one. (reviewing for the insert parts only, obviously. dont use the soldering tips for soldering, there are much better options for that. they might be useful to smooth out a print or something if youre into that? idk.)

Great performance, nice price
My old soldering iron was, to be honest, coal-fired, so any modern iron would be an improvement... This iron works well. It heats very quickly, and the thermometer and adjustable temp controls are useful. I am starting to work on projects that require not only wiring, but heat-set inserts, and this works very well for both tasks.

Defective design
The Protective Tube is too short with the result that the Screw Nut can not be securely fastened. The attached images demonstrate this problem. In one, a Soldering Tip is placed next to the base portion, and the Protective Tube is placed next to them in the position it would drop to against the Soldering Tip - the visible gap shows by how much the Protective Tube is too short. In the other image, the limit of how far the Screw Nut can be secured is shown. The result is that with a Soldering Tip placed on the Heating Element, the Screw Nut just barely reaches the threads on the base. This resulted in the Soldering Tip and Protective Tube falling off while the tools was in use. With some of the Soldering Tips, the Screw Nut fails to reach the threads on the base making it impossible to prepare the tool for use.

After some necessary unexpected adjustments, it works
You have to keep the tip clean or it faults out. The added attachments slip right through the retaining collar that's supposed to secure them in place on the iron. I was able to swedge the collar so the diameter was small enough to hold the extra attachments, but what a pain.

Great soldering iron
Works great. Only complaint i have is the length of the cord. Besides that well worth it.
