Will this work with s22 ultra?

If the S22 Ultra was purchased in Europe, it will not work due to the Exynos chipset. Otherwise, it should have a Qualcomm chipset and should work when connected with a USB OTG adapter and DinoDirect. You can download DinoDirect from the Dino-Lite website and install by side-loading it. Note that this type of connection is no longer being maintained, so support is limited.

What is the maximum effective working distance for this microscope?

At 169cm (~6.5in.) with magnification of 10x and Field of View of 50mm x 37mm. There is also another Dino Lite model optimized for longer working distance. At 150cm you can obtain 20x with this model: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006KEFGZY
