Some advice
Being an otherwise fairly experienced photographer, I got these as a first filter set for working with longer exposures. Pros: They cut light. Fairly inexpensive. Cons: Heavy. Thick. Not stackable.* Carrying case isn't great, I bought end caps, but these add even more weight. Vignetting. Image quality degradation. * If you have a wide lens, or probably any full-frame lens, stacking will cause the edges of the filter(s) to cut into the image. If you're using these on a cropped sensor, they could be stacked, but the image quality is pretty bad with one, let alone two or three. Bottom line is that I got these to see if I even cared to step into the long exposure world, so I didn't expect much. But, to be honest, if I were to give myself or anyone else advice on a first ND, I'd suggest a single 6-stop filter and then go from there. In my case, I'll be buying a square filter bracket with a 6-stop and two mounts, one for each of my lenses (72mm and 49mm). For anyone with a full frame 16mm or similar lens, don't buy a circular filter. You're going to get vignetting. Also - with square filters, you can screw on a CPL under the ND to cut reflections or enhance sky while also darkening your image.

Neutral!
I'm pretty neutral on these filters. They do EXACTLY what I expected, nothing more, nothing less. They don't serve me coffee; they can't carry a conversation; they are, well, pretty dense when it comes to doing anything but darken images. Yet they give me shade, just what I expected. Had they done more than sit there blocking the light I would have given them more stars but hey, if they were employees they'd have gotten the same 3 out of 5. It goes to show that if everyone were fair about this ranking system then there would be a lot more 3's; but just like college, grade inflation is everywhere.
