Eco-friendly and effective flossing tool
Iโve tried a lot of disposable floss picks over the years, so I decided to try the GUM Flossmate to cut down on waste and make flossing easier. After a couple of weeks of use, Iโm honestly glad I made the switch. The first setup takes a minute to figure out how to wrap the floss correctly, but once you get the hang of it, itโs quick and simple. The floss stays secure and doesnโt slip while using it, which was my main concern. I also like being able to use my preferred floss instead of being stuck with preloaded picks. What really surprised me is how much easier it is to reach the back teeth. The handle gives better control, keeps the floss taut, and feels more effective at getting between tight spots. Itโs also much more comfortable on my hands, especially for thorough flossing. The handles feel sturdy and well-made, and since youโre only replacing the floss, itโs a much less wasteful option. The only downside is that itโs not as fast as grabbing a disposable pick if youโre in a hurry, but for me, the trade-off is worth it. Overall, if you want a more controlled, durable, and eco-friendly way to floss, this is a solid choice. I actually prefer it over regular flossing now.

Works quite well
Great find. Durable despite being plastic. Works well with different types of floss. And if you wrap the floss around the handle you can reduce the amount of it used.

Makes flossing so much easier
No more wrapping your fingers with floss and these help reduce the waste of single-use flossers. Ensure a good tight wrap across the tines and the floss wonโt slip off. Probably works better with normal floss, but Iโm using all the free samples of the ribbon floss my dentist gives away every time I visit.

Work good
Works just ok. The floss keeps coming loose. I only use it when I can't reach the very back teeth, sometimes my fingers can do it and sometimes when the arthritis is acting up, they can't and then I use it.

Ugh, not great. Floss has troubles staying tight.
Floss doesn't always want to stay tight even if I wrap extra string. Wish they had a better way to lock in the string. Size is a little large but you get used to it. Quality is good but for plastic, these seem overpriced and I would not buy again. When the floss holds, these are acceptable, but when it doesn't, they are annoying, which seems like half the time.

not for small mouths
This product is made out of hard plastic that is very wide in your mouth. If it hits a tooth while flossing I worry my tooth may chip or break. Very hard to maneuver in a small mouth.

I love this Floss Fork, even more so after enhancement
About 20 years ago (pre-2005), I bought a 3-pack of these forks from a CVS pharmacy. I gave two of the forks to my folks and kept one for myself. I love this fork because it holds the floss well and precludes floss strangulation of my fingers. I initially liked the relative equivalent use of the floss string compared to finger wrapping. Similar to finger wrapping, it does require about 6 inches of string before and after the fork span that can never be used. That said, as time went by, I learned to use a somewhat longer length than needed for a flossing session, then unwrapping and reinstall the floss after progressing it forward two or three inches to an unworn portion of string. In that way the same piece of string could be used for 5 or 6 floss sessions. I was flossing my teeth every day like this until, after only 20 years, the fork broke! Happily, I was able to find them for sale on Amazon, so I bought another 3-pack. The new ones are virtually identical to the old ones. Now with the new ones, another efficiency idea came to me. If the blind hole in the handleโs base is drilled-out and a narrow slot cut into it, then even longer lengths of floss can be installed by wrapped string though that hole. Doing so greatly increases the number of flossing sessions that can be had per length of string. I wrap one or two lengths through the hole, and it works quite well (see photo). Alas, for some unknow reason Amazon cannot download this simple, unenhanced, unaltered photo. It repeatedly says to try again, and again. This has never been a problem in the past, but of late it now happens sporadically.

Hack makes it way better!
Just wanted to share how I use this product, which I think makes it better! Thanks to R.L.K. for the initial idea. Like R.L.K. I initially wrap the floss around the button, then I wrap a bunch of floss around the handle and then thread it through the slots and back onto the button. However, if you do this, you end up with used floss at the end and you will hurt your fingers trying to break it off of you need to use scissors. But if you open a plastic floss container up, you can extract the little metal cutter piece, and I just crimped that onto the bottom of the flosser handle using channel lock pliers (as seen in the picture). Now you can cut off the used floss and itโs much easier to reload the flosser!

Illegal resale?
Each of the three items in this package carries a reading that states: "Purchased for you by your dental professional." It seems these were not meant for resale on the retail market. Would give no stars if permitted.
