Is it 2 pcs per pack ? Also , How come 3 packs($94.50) are more expensive than single pack($25.87)?

2 per pack. No clue about prices.

Will this withstand ,say, an 8lb splitting axe glancing off a log? (Real life problems)

Obviously without real life testing I can't give a definitive answer. But my gut feel says it would.
