He'd used an earlier version for his PMP exam. I had access to the book on Safari online, but I decided to go ahead and get the physical book too. I'm glad I did. This is not a typical study guide. The authors know how dry the PMBOK is, so they make a conscious effort to liven it up, and make learning a little more fun. They begin the book explaining the reason for the format, down to specific fonts. They designed this book for learning from the ground up. I used the practice test and the chapter quizzes from this book, and the practice tests from the course I took to meet the educational requirements for the exam. The questions in this book were far more relevant, and I found myself studying primarily from this book. I took the last couple of weeks before the exam pretty easy, and started using the quizzes again the week before the test. I passed on the first attempt. Hopefully they'll release a new version once the PMP exam changes in the next few months. I'd recommend the Head First PMP book to anyone preparing for the exam. The series will be my first choice if I decide to earn any more certifications. Review: Project Management and MORE - I have other project management books and although they are excellent, this book stands out. It gets into the WHYs of project management, as well as the HOWs. It covers case studies of several mistakes that companies make and how project management processes are useful. At times the book is quite amusing, which helps with memory retention and makes dense information easy to understand. I don't think any singular book can possibly hold all the information needed for the PMP exam, but I can't imagine studying for it without this book. This will serve as a great reference for years. I also recommend it for anyone working with project managers, as it can benefit any sized business. The quality of material is what I have come to expect from O'REILLY Books. Highly recommend!

Passed PMP on 1st attempt and this book was the foundation (but there is much more needed)
This is an absolute great book to build a foundation of PMP knowledge. I loved the quizzes, activities, and crosswords in each section that helped me to memorize the information. I also quite easily remembered the EV formulas from this book. It just made these complex topics very easy to understand. Having said that, I really don't think you can pass the PMP on this book alone. I used Linked In learning through work, YouTube videos, and as many practice exams & questions I could take to learn. There was much I didn't capture from this book, but it still laid a solid foundation that I don't think the other sources did very well. Highly recommend this book, just don't expect it to be your only study material. Also don't be surprised if you test well on the quizzes/exam in book vs other practice exams. I found the Head First questions were a little easy, and had a gut punch when I got low scores from 1st few practice exams.

Practice questions aren't realistic PMP practice, but instruction is great
I used this book after taking PMI's on-demand course and reviewing the PMBOK. I answered practice questions one set at a time and then read up on any concepts where I'd missed a question. The questions aren't very test-like, but they help you get your head in a PM space. When I did need to learn or review a topic, I found the instruction excellent. The way the book breaks things down, uses illustrations, and interleaves scaffolded practice helped me learn the stuff quickly. I may go back at some point and work through the whole book just to learn everything I can from it.

Passed exam with flying colors! One of the best PMP guides out there.
The truth is I bought this book out of desperation. But let me explain: I started with x2 "serious" looking, "professional" PMP exam study guides, and I really struggled from falling asleep while reading them. I was growing increasingly anxious, and making practically zero progress while the days were passing by. So despite the unpalatable presentation, I swallowed my pride and bought the book. And while my feelings toward the book's presentation remain the same, with the questionable choice of pictures, really terrible graphics and examples, the reality is that this book does deliver. I could choose between failure holding a "serious looking" book in my hands, or be pragmatic and actually learn relatively effortlessly, remember the material, and pass the exam! I chose the latter. Ultimately I passed the exam first time, and for that I must thank the book's publishers and authors for the courage of writing the book following such an unconventional format.

Passed the test with this book
This book is really great. I feel like I actually learned what I needed to know. It broke things down in a work book style and made much more sense than the pmbok. I don't even think the pmbok is needed once you have this. I studied with this book 5 days in a row before my test and passed. I highly recommend it for your PMP knowledge and the practice tests at each chapter really solidified learning

Helped me pass the PMP exam
I took a boot camp and failed my first attempt at the PMP exam. While the boot camp gave me a basic understanding, this book really helped pull it all together and helped me understand much better. I don't think I would have been as successful on my second exam without it. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone getting their PMP. I actually enjoyed studying because of the book and it kept me engaged. The practice test questions are good and I even had some on my real exam which were eerily similar.

Thank you for this book
I got this book in preparation for my PMP exam. Even though I got help from other sources like phone questionnaire apps and study groups, I have to say that this book was my primary source for studying. It has everything you need to prepare: very clear explanations in each chapter, a quiz at the end of every chapter and two emulated exams that you can take whenever you want. And i got to say: I passed the exam on the first try!

Very complete book, and easy to understand. Sometimes too simple or too verbose
