I run a general contracting business and we often have projects were we are working with existing finishes. Sometimes to patch and paint, sometimes to move walls, and sometimes to build new. Paint is almost always something we deal with. In the past, we would get fan decks of colors from various suppliers and spend quite a while trying to determine the best paint color. Not an easy process. We then would either get a match or get close, grab a physical sample, then take all of that to the paint store and have them do a color match. We could hit the target, but it would take half a day to get colors for a project. This gadget fixes that problem. With a simple application on either an Android (better experience) or Apple (worse experience) you can connect to this scanner, place it on the painted surface, and it will tell you what it is. If it is unsure, it gives other options from other brands that are viable options. It ranks them accoring to how confident it is on the match. That is incredible. We tested it against fan decks from several manufacturers and found that it was nearly 100% accurate. Popular colors are copied by many companies so it gets a little bit confused in those cases, but it is still 98% sure that it is one of two colors. I have found that it is not as good with sheen as it is with color. Especially on aged paint. There are also so many variations in sheen, it may say something is an eggshell, when it is actually a satin. That is fine. It certainly gets us close enough for our work, and at worst, you just have to run out the paint to a larger area to blend the sheen on a perfect color match. I strongly recommend the case. Yeah, it is expensive. For a foam clamshell with a zipper, it should not be $20, but if you get the scanner WITH the case, it was actually cheaper than buying just the scanner. The case is small. It fits the scanner snugly. There is just enough room for the scanner and the USB charging cable I also stuffed the instructions into it so I can give the whole thing to one of our painters and they can use it. The scanner is very portable. It is small so it can be easy to lose, but so far, we haven't lost one. The nice thing about this device is that it does not seem to care what device it pairs with. With the application, it will pair to the device easily even if it had just been used by another phone. This is an incredible device. It really helps our design team work with colors so our painting crews can deliver a premium experience to our customers. These tools have really helped our business.

I was disappointed the color muse did not come with a case itself, but this one is as expected, covers and protects the piece as expected when stored away. It is snug enough and zipper works well.
