Perfect as a family ice skating/rink bag
I wish I could give this 45L Thule RoundTrip backpack 4.5 stars because it works wonderfully for our family’s use as an ice skating/rink bag, but for its intended use, as a ski or snowboard boot bag, as a family who also snowboards, I feel like this would be somewhat lacking for our needs. As an ice skating/rink bag, this holds everything 3 of 4 family members need for a trip to our local rink. For myself and our teenage daughter, I fit our 2 pairs of women’s size 5 and 6 ice skates in the main boot compartment, side by side with toes pointed away from the opening of the compartment (I think they would’ve also fit side by side with toes pointed either to the left or right of the bag). I also fit a child’s helmet in this compartment, nested on the tops of the skates. In the area meant for the helmet, I put our younger daughter’s size 13 girl’s skates side by side, toes pointed toward either the right or left side of the bag (with blade covers on to prevent cutting the fabric of the helmet compartment). On top of the skates, I put her knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards and my own wrist guards. Gloves fit in either the side pocket or the goggles compartment. No one has opted to bring extra layers, but I think I could fit an extra sweatshirt or thin jacket in both the helmet compartment and the boot compartment. If my husband came to the rink with us instead of our teenager, I think I could swap his hockey skates in for the teenager’s skates in the boot compartment and we’d be fine. Most skate bags are meant to be carried over one shoulder, but I appreciate a backpack option that works for carrying all our gear to the rink. The handle at the top of the arm straps and another handle on the front — on the outside of the helmet compartment — offer alternative ways to carry this, but I would prefer another zip pocket on the outside front vs a handle. There’s also room on the other side for another zip pocket, so it’s kind of a waste that one side is completely without a pocket. It would also be great if Thule considered adding (rubber) coating to the bottom to protect it when you have to put the bag down on the ground. However, as snowboarders, I feel this might not fit our needs. I could probably fit my snowboard boots, my younger daughter’s snowboard boots, and 1 of our helmets in the boot compartment, with the other helmet in the helmet compartment. Add goggles in the goggle compartment and then multiple pairs of gloves (I always bring extras), maybe there could be room for a couple sweatshirts and/or underlayers, but I can’t see there being room for outerlayers like snowpants or snowboard jackets. I guess we could use carabiners to attach a 3rd helmet and 3rd pair of snowboard boots to 2 of the 3 loops on the outside (1 on the front top left, 1 on the front top right, and 1 on the top near the goggles compartment), but that doesn’t offer any protection for the 3rd person’s gear. The 60L backpack might be a better option for snowboarding, but I still doubt it would work for 3 family members’ boots and helmets. Maybe 2 people with room for 2 pairs of boots, 2 helmets, gloves, goggles, underlayers, snowpants, and jackets (but if we put on snowpants and jackets at the car, it’s debatable if it’s really necessary for the bag to have room for them, but still nice to be able to store everything in one place/bag when not being used). I also would prefer if there were straps to attach a snowboard — our younger one doesn’t carry her own board, so board straps would help my husband and I free up our arms to carry just our own boards for the hike from the parking lot to the lodge. The chest clips are also a plus, but for the long-ish walk from parking to the lodge, a waist strap would offer additional weight distribution. No complaints with quality/construction. Everything seems sturdy, but we haven’t used it long enough to really test its durability. Got this bag on sale, so very happy with the value for the price I paid.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Best Ski Bag I’ve Owned – Thoughtfully Designed and Super Functional!
I’ve tried a few different ski bags over the years—including the Swix bag and even one of those bulky heated boot bags—but nothing compares to the Thule Ski Bag. This one absolutely nails it when it comes to functionality, organization, and practicality. It has tons of smart compartments, which makes it incredibly easy to organize all your gear. I love that the boot section is completely separate, so your other items stay clean and dry. There’s even a dedicated spot for your helmet, which is a total game-changer. What really sets the Thule apart is the balance of space and portability. That heated bag I tried was just too heavy and awkward—the heaters took up a lot of room and made the bag unnecessarily bulky. The Thule is sleek, well-structured, and easy to carry, even when fully loaded. It’s now officially my favorite ski bag. If you’re looking for a ski bag that’s durable, well-designed, and keeps everything in its place, this is the one. Thule nailed it with this bag!

Compact size that works well overall
This bag was exactly the size I was looking for. Fits boots, helmet, goggles and any small items like gloves in the side pocket. Easy to carry. Goggle compartment is well protected and overall durability seems good. Survived two airline baggage claim machines so far and held up fine. Pricier than many bags out there but better designed than my previous Dakine bag.

Good quality Ski Boot bag that holds everything but Skis.
Why did you pick this product vs others?: I picked this product because of the name (Thule), the fact it was 60L, the price and reviewed from others. Roomy: This Ski Boot bag holds my boots, socks, ski gloves, helmet, ski goggles and a host of other items like mid layers and base layers Build quality: The build quality is put together with very heavy canvas and should hold up against the abuse from baggage handling Color: Color is black Straps: Good quality straps to carry the heaviest of items. Durability: Seems durable enough for traveling through airports and baggage handling. Comfort: Comfort appears fine, although I will not carry this on my back for any length of time.

Great quality and 45L is plenty big
This bag is very thoughtfully designed and the slate color is great. I almost bought the 60L bag and I am glad I did not. 2 things made me consider the larger bag: 1) uncertainty whether it would fit both boots and a helmet and 2) some reviews suggesting that a size ten or similar boots would not fit. After receiving the bag, I can confirm that for most people, 45L is plenty big. My 26.5 boots fit easily with about 2 inches to spare (see photo). This should accommodate at least up to size 30.5 mondopoint boots (roughly US13 shoe size). I think the reviewer who said they could not fit size 10 boots may have mistakenly tried to put the boots in the front compartment (where a helmet or other gear would go). It’s a natural mistake (we generally open backpacks from the front. But this bag is designed to put the boots through the rear of the bag so the boots are separated from other gear (a great design in my opinion). My boots would also not fit in the front compartment. I have also included a picture of the front compartment open while the boots are in the bag. My helmet will easily fit. There is also a separate goggle compartment with soft fleece-like lining on the top. Third picture. Bottom line, I think this bag is plenty big and I would not want it 33% bigger. This is a pretty big bag already.

Great design!
This is just right for women’s boots!!! Easy to get boots out and insert. Nice pockets for ski scarves and sunscreen. Large enough to hold my helmet in the boot compartment as well as my gloves. Easy and compact. Great to fly with also; fits in overhead.

Best Boot Bag I have found
Finally found the perfect boot bag after trying many. This bag will not be for everyone, it is large, and it looks large….even awkwardly large when on your back. But it has excellent design, high quality construction and exceeds my expectations as someone who wants a high level of organization built into the design. If you travel a lot to ski (by car or plane) this bag will make your travel easier and reduce your prep time for trips. It is expensive, but worth the price if your needs and wants match my own.
