After 3 years, no longer using Royal Berkey and only using Filtrete
I got this filtration unit three years ago along with expensive 4-filter Royal Berky system. I did an extensive research for water filtration systems and didn't want a reverse osmosis filtration that removes naturally occurring minerals (although a few incorporate Re-Mineralization) that contribute to a good taste and health, and wastes a large portion of water to produce a fraction of drinkable water. My original plan was to double filter through Royal Berkey by using 3M Filtrete water for the purest water possible while retaining minerals. After a few months, I stopped using Royal Berkey because it required constant maintenance and Filtrete is so much more convenient and drastically improved water taste on its own with no noticeable odor from my tap. I use the filtered water for cooking, coffee/tea, drinking, pet water, aquarium, etc. The following performance data sheet info is included with the 3US-PF01 Advanced Water filter: Chlorine Taste and Odor - Avg % Reduction 97.5% Nominal Particulate Class I, โฅ0.5 to < 1.0ยตm - Avg % Reduction 99.9% Microbial Cysts - Avg % Reduction 99.99% 3M also seems to care about their product from my recent interaction with the company. I recently replaced the 3US-PS01 filter as usual but tasted chlorine for the first time in 3 years. After a week of noticing the off-putting taste especially when used for my tea/coffee, I decided to contact 3M to report the problem. Although they never heard of such issue, they decided to send me a replacement filter and asked to send back the defective filter for evaluation. The replacement filter they sent worked immediately to remove the chlorine taste and I was able to send back the defective filter through a prepaid label. I finally decided to write this review after the experience, and I'm glad the company cares enough to investigate and improve their product consistency. One thing that you may want to consider is to install a dedicated filtered water faucet after trying it. For two years, I simply installed the system as the direction indicated on my existing kitchen faucet. The installation was very easy, but my cold water pressure got affected slightly and I felt like I was wasting filtered water whenever I was doing dishes or using warm water in my sink. Also, I always had to be careful to let the faucet water run for a bit to remove the stagnant unfiltered water in the faucet path, and just a bit of the unfiltered water was enough to ruin the taste of the drinking water. After installing a dedicated filtered water faucet that I got from Amazon (I used KES Z501C), my family can access filtered water immediately and my kitchen faucet water pressure got restored. It required extra work, but the effort was totally worth it. I suppose I'm saving my dusty Royal Berkey for the zombie days to filter local stream/rain water should the need ever arise, but I'm very happy with the inexpensive Filtrete system and never thought to research for another filtration system since use. I highly recommend you give this a try.

Back to "Well Water"
Finally great tasting water or tasteless water! I grew up drinking well water at my parent's house and always hated having to drink public water due to the chlorine taste. I recently purchased a house that does not have well water, but the water is not terrible. I really did not want the huge brita filter on the faucet. In fact I am replacing the faucet with a new single post faucet so the brita will not work on it. This was the perfect solution to have great tasteless water. I read the reviews here on Amazon and decided to go for it. Install was somewhat of a breeze and the results are great. As for the installation it really is simple, but you need to be sure you snap the tubing in correctly. Push the blue tubing into the connectors all the way and pull to make sure there snug in the connection. I found that afterwards the seal or grey piece should be pushed out just a bit when the connection is correct. If you do not have it correct it will leak immediately. Also when you are hooking up from the filter to the faucet make sure you have 2 wrenches to ensure that the connection is tight. After my little mishap with the snap in fittings (Really it was my fault anyway) the installation was a breeze. I let the water run for 7 minutes like the directions told me to do. After the 7 minutes were up I put my glass under the faucet and tried the water. Finally my public water is now like well water or at least I cannot taste the chlorine. I am very pleased so far with this unit, and in 6 months I will be buying the replacement filter. I will update if anything goes wrong with the product, but I feel that there should be no issues. Also the water pressure did not drop at all at the faucet which if you own a brita style you know how much you lose when you filter the water. I am so pleased with this product. I would like to note that the filter when filled with water is pretty heavy. Make sure you install this into studs or use a nice strong screw with either a molly or an anchor. I am very pleased with this product and would recommend to anyone who wants great tasting or tasteless water!

Working well so far, acceptable decrease in pressure,
First off, this product claims to have no interference with water pressure, but when you connect anything like this to a water source, there will be a certain amount of difference in water pressure simply because of the longer distance the water travels. That said, that difference in pressure is only marginal so I am satisfied with the water flow after installation. I switched to this for convenience and skepticism about storing water plastic pitcher/filtration units. The tubing on this unit is plastic, so I had to compromise, but I believe it is polypropylene which is plastic #5 (generally safe according to what "they" say). I can tell a difference in taste, but I've learned that letting the tap run for a second or two before filling up your glass is best at certain times. For example, if your tap has been unused overnight and in the morning you go for a glass of water, you may experience a "tap taste," so a quick flush of the lines in that situation is ideal. Otherwise, throughout the day it tastes fine. I'm a DIY guy, so installation went smoothly, there is a video link on amazon I believe, but if you can't find it there YouTube has one as well. One thing to note is the plastic tubing is only slightly flexible so you need to position the unit in an area where the tubing won't interfere with your cabinet doors, storage, and other devices like a garbage disposal. Still on the first filter so I'm unsure of the indications to change. Can update later

Excellent product. Great design. Great tasting water.
We grew tired of the faucet-mount models from other manufactures that seem to be made of cheaper materials every time we we replace one. Besides, faucet-mount models limited our choices on faucet designs. This model installs out of the way under the sink in space that it not normally used, so we gave up none of our under-sink storage capacity to install this unit. I was paranoid and looked into buying brass parts to use in lieu of those that came with the unit, but after checking with guys who know what they're doing I was assured the parts that come with this unit are top quality. The unit comes with a brass piece for the one place where it makes sense to use brass. The design in general is very consumer-friendly. I can do some basic stuff around the home, but I am by no means a handyman, and I was able to install this model easily. Just take your time and be careful to closely follow the instructions. Make sure you press the blue tube into the connectors until it completely connects with an obvious click and is inserted all the way into the connector according to the instructions. You may have to press a bit if you're laying under the sink at an awkward angle, but just make sure you do that and you're good to go! The filter is large - several times as large ad the faucet models we have used from other manufactures in the past - which means there's a lot more filtering between when the water leaves the pipe and get comes out the faucet. I like that. And the NSF ratings for this model (I recommend the Advanced model that removes the parasitic cysts) are excellent! Best of all, the water tastes excellent! We buy cases of half litre bottled water to have on hand in the event of a water outage, which means we need to gradually drink it. I refill my bottles at the faucet over and over and put them in the fridge. I've always got a few bottles chilling the the fridge. The filter life of six months is excellent. Based on the average price for refill filters I have found it works out to around $5.00/month. That's pretty darn good.

Works great for us! Our water has never tasted better!
I do not like the taste of our municipal water -- and when it started to 'smell' funny as well, I decided to add this to the tap. The price can't be beat for such a high quality filter, and the water tastes great! I have a Keurig coffeemaker that, instead of using the filtered refrigerator water to fill the reservoir (wasting energy in the process, cooling down the water just to heat it up for coffee) I just use the cold water tap now and the coffee is excellent as well. Not to mention the rest of the benefits, such as pasta, etc. Installation took about 20-25 minutes, from cleaning out a spot from under the kitchen sink to putting the last parcel back in. You turn off the water at the valve, remove the existing hose from the valve to the faucet, take the included hose, cut it in half, attach one end to the valve then into the filter, and one from the filter to the faucet. At first I was weary of the deisgn; the cut hose just push-compression fits into the filter, but after two weeks of use, the entire operation is still water-tight. Water flow is just slightly less than straight tap, I'd say about a 10% loss -- which is still plenty fast enough. I do not have a well so I do not know how this product would work with that type of water, but for Detroit Water, it's great. Bottom line: If you want 'clean' tasting water, for a great price, and the added peace-of-mind of chemicals removed (parasitic cysts? I don't know if that is cause for concern but I'll take it), buy this and you won't be disappointed.

Use it properly, it should work just as advertised!
I've just finished installing it, which was very easy. We had copper pipes coming from the under sink shutoff, which is not compatible, so a quick trip to the store and a $5 flexible hose later, I finished the installation in about 15 minutes. This is only on the cold line on our wet bar, and I drink 6-8 16oz glasses a day from it, fill a 12 cup coffee pot several times a week, as well as a couple ice cube trays. The instructions tell you to run the system for 5 minutes before initial use. Take this time to properly adjust the pressure of the shutoff valve so it's EXACTLY on what can come out of the spigot. Over-pressuring the system will eventually lead to failures and possible leaks! DO NOT TURN YOUR FAUCET PAST WHERE THE FLOW PRESSURE IS MAXED OUT! So after being thoroughly fed up with failing on-faucet filters and leaking refrigerator ones (the latter of which leaked behind the fridge, went into the basement, and destroyed an antique cabinet), having this unit at our wetbar fixed all of our issues. Realize that putting this on your kitchen sink will drastically lower the lifespan of the filters. This isn't meant for washing dishes, it's meant for your drinking water, filling pots and ice cube trays, etc. UPDATE: used for over 1 year with no issues. Only JUST ordering my 2nd replacement filter, but the original is still working, although pressure is reducing gradually. Your mileage will vary depending on your local water and how often it's utilized. Our water comes out at only ~.80 according to my Zero Water's reader, so this is well worth the price to me.

Very impressed.
So, I didn't expect much for $40, but I figured that if we didn't like it, we can just toss it after 6 months and not get a replacement. The first filter that was arrived was badly damaged and appeared to be tempered with. I've never had this issue with Amazon, so I was a bit pissed. I never had to return anything, so I thought it would be a lengthy process -- new filter was at my door step the next day. Yeah, I couldn't believe it. So, installing this thing didn't take long, around 15 minutes (including measuring, drilling holes, arranging hoses). I wasn't sure if I was going to get any leaks, since some people complained about little leakage, and I was also concerned regarding water pressure due to a few reviews. I have none of the problems. No leaks, great water pressure and best of all, I could taste the difference. I can't stand the taste and smell of tap water, and after running this thing for about 10-15 minutes I smelled a glass of water - no odor, and then tasted it... I was shocked. It tasted more pure than our PUR water container that we have in the refrigerator. So, now that'll be going away and freeing up some needed room in the fridge. I can now wash vegetables, make coffee and cook with clean water! I am pleasantly surprised by this product. I hope everyone else's experience will be as good as mine (besides the first broken filter). I highly recommend this fella.

Easy install, great tasting water
We have well water, but it is quite hard and has poor taste. After a year with the faucet-mounted units that were VERY slow to produce water (and the weight of which I believe resulted in a leak in our old faucet, causing us to have to replace it), we decided to go with this under-the sink unit. The unit arrived intact and with all required parts. Despite me not being the handiest of guys, installation was a cinch. I ended up using my power drill to drill holes for the mounting bracket, as it can be quite awkward to position a screwdriver underneath the sink for long periods of time. Make sure to follow the instructions carefully though. I had an leak from the filter on the side from the unit to the faucet because I had not adequately pulled on the blue tube to tighten it. The lack of traditional plumbing paraphernalia (such as nuts on the mounting bracket) was very suspicious to me at first, and I have to confess that I checked the connections almost obsessively over the first few days. But no leaks appeared and two weeks in, the unit is functioning very well. The water taste is delicious and the flow is probably 10X better than our PUR faucet mount that we had before. What's more, that unit had a filter that we had to replace probably every six weeks due to our water. Given the hardness of our water, I'm not expecting to reach the 6 month period that is the average for the filtrete unit, but if goes 3-4 it will still represent a savings to us compared to the PUR unit. Very satisfied.

Evey thing in the way of "inside cupboard" work.

Easy to install, performs as expected.
Ok first off: If you are looking for an under-counter reverse osmosis system with full flow for less than $100 bucks, then this is not for you. However: If you are looking for an inexpensive filter system that gets rid of the taste of chlorine on the cold water line in. your kitchen, this may work for you. Installation: It was easy to install in-line with the supplies in the box and the existing line going to the cold water feed. It mounts easily under the cabinet. The filter itself does not need priming or flushing prior to installation or use. It was a straight forward job to get it installed and can be accomplished by anyone who has changed a feed line on a tap or bathroom fixture. Performance: Well its almost like a Brita filter for the cold water line... It does restrict the cold water flow a bit, but not a lot and that was to be expected. I just turned down the hot water feed to match the pressure and they are still balanced. Even while operating on cold water only, the spray feature on our tap works, so there is still enough pressure. Taste: Its as clean as the water coming off the fridge. Not quite reverse osmosis level, but a noticeable enough difference in cleanliness. Our coffee and tea does not have a faint taste of chlorine. So good for drinking and cooking. That was the goal, and it works. The final comment which we cannot give now is length of service and swapping. In researching a product, we learned that the "Advanced" filter was good for 2000 Gallons, the Maximum is only good for 1500 gallons. Since the filters are interchangeable, we went with the advanced to start, and we are happy with it. Less expensive, good performance and longer life. So we will stick to that. The filter is supposed to be easily swapped when its time to change it, and considering the ease of installation I can't see that being different. Plus, no priming and 1/4 turn to swap it. We will see. It is considerably easier to use than the filter system in our previous home. Conclusion: Does exactly what we wanted/expected and for a very reasonable price.
