OUTSTANDING VALUE: Nothing to Break, Very Affordable, Functional & Fun
(Second update, July 3, one year later): My glowing review holds. The HB coffee maker still performs like it's brand new, and guests still get coffee envy and ask me where they got such a neat gizmo while they (not I) pour themselves another cup. Love its durability, and it continues to make outstanding coffee for a terrific price. It remains a truly Outstanding Value. (*Update, 1/1/25: I've had this for half a year now, and I still love it. It works flawlessly, and continues to deliver great coffee. However, that little bit of extra resistance at the pushbar/button continued to bug me, so I MacGyvered it (look it up, ye kiddies) and just trimmed the spring at the plug valve under the pot. Check my last pic- it was easy. Just a screwdriver and a pair of wire cutters, with a good brushing of that little filter (it gets grimy, and this is also a good time to clean the machine- use 1/3 distilled vinegar to water, and run a couple of cycles.) Anyway, presto! She is not so resistant now, is she? A caution, though- if you cut that spring too much, say more than 1/3, it won't have enough force to keep that rubber seal pushed shut, and your unit could drip. Finding another spring would mean a trip to Home Depot. Just go easy. It was a good mod, though, and the pushbar is more accommodating. Try it if you're like me- annoyed by the little things, with too much time on your hands. Ta, and happy New Year!) I first encountered the Hamilton Beach on a vacation, and was captivated by a machine that automatically dispensed coffee; why hadn't anyone thought of this before? I'm also a sucker for gadgets and buttons, so I couldn't wait for an excuse to get one. The excuse presented itself soon after, when I broke our second Ninja pot. At $25 a pop, I was already in for $50, and number three was gonna make it $75. I didn't like the math, and Ninja didn't make a steel carafe. If they had, I would have stayed with it- it's a nimble little machine that makes tasty coffee. But like printer cartridges, they soak you. And my trusty old Cuisinart finally gave up the ghost after one too many spills where I forgot to put the lid on. I kept the steel carafe, though, and I poured my coffee from the Ninja into the carafe. It stays hot and fresh longer, something no glass pot can do. Segue to the HB. It's pretty simple, with only a reservoir (the base unit) a "pot" (the plastic unit on top that the coffee brews into) and the filter. You fill up the reservoir (I use the pot to do this, which is easy to hold and has a pour spout that actually pours without dripping all over), grind your beans (medium to fine), stick it back together and press the button. The BOLD and 1-4 settings work well, and you can adjust the pot to stay hot for 0-4 hours (which is does because of the conductive heating plates which meet at the pot and the base). The zero hour setting is for cold coffee. But as long as a coffee machine works and is easy enough to clean, it's all about the taste. Here the HB also performs well; we've had it for a couple of weeks and the coffee is as rich and flavorful as anything that comes out of a sub-$300 machine or a French press (which I still like best). A traditional pot is easier to clean, because it's round, but a good brush takes care of the odd shape of the pot. The HB cost $59, and I opted for the 4-year Asurion warranty for an extra $11- I'm fed up with things that go kaput, and while I don't see that happening with this unit, it's worth the piece of mind. The fact that it won't break was one of the two big sells for the HB. The other was the auto-pour feature, which, while pretty neat, comes with an asterisk.* *It's got a bit of resistance. When I push my cup against it, the unit slides back, even though it has a couple of rubber pads, and it's on a granite counter. Easily solved by putting it against the wall, which doesn't impede the lid or machine in any way. But it does take a little more push than, say, a lever at a soda machine. No big deal, but some people may take umbrage at the audacity for it to push back a little. Hey, I'm the boss here, and you're gonna give me a cup whether you're in the mood or not, little button. Take away: The HB is solid unit that won't break, and it makes very good coffee that stays hot. It obviates spills and burns (smart for seniors who shake or drop things), and for less than the price of three replacement Ninja carafes, it's a bargain, and it's fun to get your morning going at the push of a button. Cheers, -Z

Honest review from 2 time owner
I want to begin by saying that I absolutely love this thing. I was on the lookout for a coffee maker that would reduce the amount of spillage that my wife does when she pours her coffee. This turned out to be a great solution. We are on our second version of this product. We had a red one at first got it a few years ago. We now have a black one. Here's where the honesty comes in. The quality of a black one is less than the red one for sure. If the red one was a 9 out of 10 Star product when it comes to quality then the black one is probably a seven and a half. The pieces don't have quite the super snug fit that the red one had and the plastic just seems a little bit less refined if that makes sense. The ability to keep your coffee warm the variations of Brew types the Simplicity of use the pour feature are all fantastic. I've seen several on here stating that it leaks. Sure when you overfill it it leaks. If you pour in the water too fast it's going to leak or dribble. After extended use if you don't keep it clean yes it will drip. The only reason we bought a new one is because the last one started to drip. The compartment that holds the coffee which is the top part that you see in my picture that has the clock and the silver area on it started to drip. So you take that off you undo these two screws you remove the little flap that I see people posting on here that broke you give it a good cleaning your rinse out the area on the inside where the flap sits and you put it back together with the two screws and you're good to go. Most people don't take time to maintain their coffee pot when it starts to act up they just buy a new one because they're cheap. On the other hand I am cheap so I try and maintain it clean it take care of it and it lasts. I think we had our other one for 3 years and it started to leak and as I was cleaning it I over tightened the screw and I broke the section that it screws into and that's the only reason I got a new one and can write this review about the quality of the new version. Yes it's probably made in China or Taiwan or something like that but so is everything else. It is a quality product. And it reduces the potential danger of your older mother or your wife spilling hot coffee everywhere. Maybe your dad is not as graceful with the coffee pour. Maybe your kids drink coffee? They just walk up to it put their cup underneath it and push the button and it pours into their cup. Would I recommend this product? 1,000%. Is a little bit of a different process absolutely and that's okay. I think it's cool that the company at Hamilton Beach took the time to create a coffee pot that was completely different than all the other coffee pots you've ever seen. If you're worried about the durability then go get a 1960s percolator that makes 32 cups of coffee and just use that we have one of those that we use for parties and it's been around and works just fine for about 50 years now. But if you're just looking for something that is a little bit different convenient and provides the ability to adjust the Brew type of your coffee from regular to bowl to extra bold then go for this give it a shot. I like companies that think outside the box and Hamilton Beach has done a great job of that with this product. Like I said I bought two of them and if I had friends that I wanted to spend 50 bucks on for Christmas I probably buy one of these for them too. So don't let the negative reviews deter you because sometimes people get lemons it's the same debate between Ford versus Chevy this is Hamilton Beach versus Mr Coffee sometimes people have great results with one and not the other but for the most part it's a coffee pot man it should work just fine. I will end this by saying that I am a fan a very big fan. And would totally 100% recommend this product if someone asked me about it. Oh look they asked me about it, and here I am recommending it.

Good coffee maker but Broken part already after 3 months
Update. Contacted the company and they said that part is under warranty so I will get another one. I'm thankful for their quick response and willingness to help. I'm still a bit anxious because the last one we had was working great for many years and I think the newer ones probably have cheaper parts and are more flimsy. It's definitely lighter than the old one. But I am just glad to be able to get a replacement part so quickly. Original review: Works well, so far. But the basket handle broke, snapped in half already and we have only had it for a few months. Simply by dumping the grinds and used filter in the trash. And just daily use making coffee. So be gentle with it. Purchased in November but didn't start using it until Dec. For Christmas. Everything else seems to be okay so far. The last one we had lasted 10 years almost. Other parts eventually were broken but it was still able to be used, but barely. But this part is a cheaper plastic than the original one. But our first one worked great for 6 years straight. Then limped along for the rest of its life. If we're already having broken parts after 3 months I don't have much faith that the rest of it will last much longer. Well it definitely won't last as long as the last one. Luckily we saved the old basket and we took the handle off that one but it doesn't match up. So we have to be careful when pulling the basket out. We can probably order another whole basket. But I am hoping that they might want to send me one. Because although I didn't purchase a warranty, 3 months for a part to break kinda stinks. Much more flimsy than the last one which was the exact same model. But it is a great coffee maker and easy to use. You can set it to brew at a time you want. It's not heavy or awkward and it fits well anywhere in the kitchen. The best thing is that it keeps the coffee warm and has a spout where you push a bar in to dispense it as opposed to having to pour. Which is great for people who have mobility issues. The company literally replied within a day and solved my problem with the broken part and has already sent me a new basket.

Actually quite nice.
I thought I'd love this, then got it and thought I hated it, but now I love it again. When I got it I thought the space to pour water in was awkward and a little small... Till I bought a Mr coffee and that was even worse... Now I think it's not that bad. It's a little different pouring from the little bucket thing, but now that I'm used to it, it doesn't spill much, especially if I don't pour too fast. Another thing I thought was a little strange is that this coffee maker claims not to give you the burnt coffee taste because it keeps warm inside the machine. The thing is, there still is a heating element inside the bucket that holds the coffee and keeps it warm... In other words there's direct contact between your coffee and the heating element. With your typical glass decanter you at least have the layer of glass between the heating element and the coffee. That said, I'm not particularly picky so I may not be the best judge, but I don't notice any burnt coffee (or tea) taste even if I reheat it later and it's been heating in that thing for maybe eight hours even. I end up needing to clean the element with a little steel wool if I want to get it shining again. Scrubbing with a sponge still leaves brown marks on that metal, but I suppose any coffee pot needs a deep clean sometimes. The thing I really don't like is that you have to take the basket out and set it down somewhere on your counter while you're getting the bucket out to fill and pour. I don't really like the wet basket (if I just rinsed it) sitting on the counter or it possibly getting bacteria from something, I'd rather be able to just leave it sitting in the coffee machine when I'm not cleaning it. It isn't difficult to get in and out though. The basket and bucket set easily into the machine and there's no dripping after you release pressure on the dispenser button. It all functions nicely and easily. Overall, I really love the ability to reheat easily and dispense one cup at a time. I don't know why really because you can do that with any coffee maker but it's just kind of nice and maybe a little fun. Despite the things that annoy me I think that they are probably necessary for this design and not really a flaw, you just have to decide if it works for you. After buying the Mr Coffee when I expected to return this, I developed a new perspective and I decided this works for me very well overall. I've decided to keep this one for brewing tea and my son is in love with the Mr Coffee so that sticking around for coffee. I'm comfortable giving it 5 stars. If it gives out on me or I have other problems with it I will update the review. **UPDATE: it is now two years since I bought this machine. I took a break from my tea obsession for the last 6-9 months, so it hasn't truly had two years of use, but it has always worked as expected without any issues other than the minor irritations I mentioned above. I recently started using it again, for coffee this time, and I still love it just as much as before, maybe more since it's been quite reliable.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE
I LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!! this coffee maker. Did I mention that I LOVE this coffee maker? First...I don't often write reviews for products I buy...who has the time? For THIS, however, I feel compelled to tell my story: I've had the same coffee maker for over 25 years and, although there was nothing wrong with it, I just wanted a newer, nicer, match-my-cool-kitchen-decor one. Oh! And...it had to make BETTER coffee than my old one. So...the researcher started researching and researching and reading and studying and musing, etc. I immediately discarded the idea of a one-cup maker because I didn't want all those little cups laying around...even in a special "little cup holder thingy" or have to (heaven forbid!) FILL a little cup every time I wanted a cupa Joe! Then, I began to consider GLASS carafe vs STAINLESS carafe; but all the reviewers basically had problems with both. I literally stumbled on a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT coffee maker (you know that "people also considered these" at the bottom of the Amazon page). It was a BREWSTATION...yes! like a soda DISPENSER station...NO CARAFE! The reviews were fantastic and so, after weeks of searching and researching, I ordered the Hamilton Beach BrewStation Ultra with the Amazon gift card Sweetie gave me for my birthday. It arrived yesterday....on my birthday! Set up was a breeze! I even figured out, in a second, how to "program" it to have the coffee ready when I woke up (always a plus!). I've NEVER had one that did this...I had to push the button and then stand around with my cup in my hand WAITING!!! So...this morning, I wake up and my first thought was, "OMG...there's probably coffee all over the counter and seeped into the drawers and leaked onto the floors because I probably did something wrong and now I have a big mess to clean up! But no!! The first thing that hit me, as I rounded the corner to the side of the house where the kitchen is, was the AROMA of fresh brewed coffee!!! YIPPPPEEE! And...no mess!! So, I take my mug, pour a little 1/2 and 1/2 into it, and gently press it against the little bar on the front of the BrewStation and VIOLA!! COFFEE!! But...now comes the TRUE TEST...does it TASTE good?!! All the reviewers raved about the taste; but, to be sure, taste is a matter of...well...TASTE! OH! MY! the FIRST sip was like JAVA HEAVEN! And I kept sipping...could not stop sipping! THE BEST...and I mean it...THE BEST tasting coffee I ever had...bar none! No bitter taste; perfect strength (I followed directions for 1 level Tablespoon/cup and made 6 cups....which is probably about 2 or 3 of my big mug). I used my own coffee blend; but am anxious to try others, like Dunkin' Donuts, which I bought on sale at Costso last week. Now..the best part: it keeps the coffee hot for UP TO FOUR HOURS...without "burning" it...remember, there's no "hot plate" and at a consistent temperature. I tested out this feature by leaving a little bit of coffee in the maker...just to see how this would work for me, because coffee rarely lasts 4 hours with me. The last sip was just as good and just as hot as the first! Wonderful! Speaking of HOT...PERFECT for drinking! Not McDonald's "hot", that you have to wait for an hour to take a sip or "coolish hot", so that you have to stick it in the microwave to get it right...no...it was PERFECT drinking temperature! PERFECT! So...that's my story and I might just have to make another pot today...just because I can! If YOU are in the market for a coffee maker, here's your chance. And...doesn't cost the farm....about $45 on Amazon (free shipping for me bc I'm a Prime member) and I also bought the little gold basket, so it was around $55...as I see it, that's an EXCELLENT price compared to those one-cuppers. Cheers!!

Nice Coffee Maker that won't Last
UPDATED REVIEW: The design of this coffee make is very good. The construction is cheap and will give out. Our third unit just died, like the previous two. The heating element on the first two fried within a year. This latest one slowly leaks on the counter. I have taken the units apart on all three occasions and failed to repair the units (more costly than replacing). The leak is a bit of a mystery since I resecured hoses and clamps and pressure tested. This means the body itself has a small fissure somewhere. With the cost now over $60, I can't recommend this to anyone and Sunbeam unfortunately continues to live up to its manufacturing reputation. ORIGINAL REVIEW: This is a very good coffee maker for the money and is attractive and well designed. It makes a good cup of coffee, has a compact footprint, no carafe to deal with, fairly easy to clean, and the ability to keep the coffee hot without seemingly making it taste old is a plus. We have had it for a few weeks and like it more each time we use it. No complaints and here are several suggestions to Hamilton Beach for improvement: 1. include the gold filter. 2. design the rubber feet so they don't fall out so easily (I had to glue ours in place to prevent the constant falling out). 3. secure the electronic push buttons so they don't wobble so much in place; this provides a cheap feel of the machine as a first impression (in fairness, once you start using the Brewstation, you don't notice the button quality). 4. the current design has an overflow hole in the back of the unit that allows for excess water to drain out onto the counter. This is a good idea and a better idea would be to allow the overflow water to instead enter an overflow chamber once the 12 Cup max limit is reached. Once the holding tank is removed, the water in the overflow chamber could be returned to the reservoir. This would allow the water level of 12 Cup brewing (likely what most multi-person households use) to always be precisely the same, taking the guess work out of one element of perfect coffee brewing. 5. make a version of the Brewstation that includes a remote on/off switch that could send a signal to begin brewing on demand when I wake up. For the high-tech home, consider a version that is WiFi / Z-Wave compatible allowing Alexa or a mobile app to control brewing on demand. Regardless, this version of the Brewstation is a 5-star item because of its design and ability to make good coffee. We came from a Cuisinart retro coffee maker with the stainless carafe and we're much happier with the Brewstation. In case anyone is wondering, this Brewstation uses a measuring system that may be unusual in that 1 Cup = 4-1/3 oz. That means brewing the 12 Cup max calls for 52 oz of water (6 Cups would be 26oz of water). We like medium roast coffee and are not fans of strong coffee like Starbucks. Based on our taste, I have found that using a 1/2 leveled Cup of coffee grounds per 12 Cup works well with the brew setting on BOLD. I have a pitcher that now has 52oz and 26oz marks water marks for a 12 and 6 Cup brew respectively. I also now have 1/2 and 1/4 Cup scoops, respectively for those 12 and 6 cup brews. Using filtered water each time along with repeatable exact amounts of water and grounds, as well as fresh coffee grounds = consistently good coffee. If anyone else who favors a medium roast brew has come up with a formula that may be better, I'd like to hear about it as a Comment Reply.

Cumbersome and messy
Problematic in many ways. The first one I received leaked badly, completely unusable. The second works fine, produces good coffee, but preparing the process is very cumbersome. It involves removing the coffee reservoir, filling it with water, then pouring the water into the main heating chamber. I've managed to spill water over the counter every time I've used it. The reservoir is poorly designed. I like that the coffee, once made, stays in the reservoir heated for four hours or more and doesn't burn. It's a feature that I loved in the Cuisinart version which is now discontinued, and it's a feature that doesn't show up in mSny designs, so I'll hang on to this one, but I'm not at all happy with it.

A coffee maker for coffee people
I first came across this coffee maker on vacation. At the time I thought I would never need a coffee pot that big. But i found I could just make four cups or a whole pot. But the feature that sold me was that I could start drinking a cup of coffee as it was brewing since I didn’t have a coffee “ pot” to brew into. It all stays in the large capacity area above and pressing a button lets it flow down into the cup. Keeps coffee hot for four hours. Lots to love here.

Great but not perfect.
This is a great coffee maker but not perfect. It truly keeps the coffee hot whereas all double walled carafes are tepid in 40 mins. The machine is easy to use but it seems a lot of people over look the obvious as they separate the parts and put the water in the wrong place even though there is 12 cup fill guide on the left hand side of the lowest section. My machine had both of the common problems, the leaking at the pour lever and the heater boiling the water. There is videos on Youtube for both problems. It took 5 mins to adjust the pour lever problem and 2 mins to put two pieces of aluminum foil over the heater to prevent it from boiling the coffee. The one HUGE improvement for this would be an LED light near the pour lever so when filling your mug you can see how full it is getting without having all the lights on in the kitchen LOL

Recomendo
