if I got shot in the face would this protect me?

Dude! I took a 12-gauge shotgun blast square in the face with this and it's awesome! Tomorrow I'm gonna try it with a .30-06.

I am actually looking for a mask that doesn't let cold air in my nose. Is the nose area of this mask (black) open or is it closed?

Yes the nose area is open but I experiance no cold air because the opening is very narrow & the mask is designed to cover the sides of your nose. I'm outside for 8hrs at a time 20 degree weather. works for me.
