Only zero drop, wide toe box, max cushion shoe (and it might be gone soon)
Ever since I gave myself plantar fasciitis from running on old shoes, I have been basically forced to wear running shoes at all times or else my feet are in constant pain. I have been on a journey from one running shoe to another trying to find the next best one. I started with some entry level Ascis I found at DSW that I thought were just amazing. When I went to buy a 3rd pair they were out so I shopped around, and found some Brooks Ghosts that were two times as expensive. I thought no way they are twice as good to justify the price. I was wrong. I bought them immediately, and my mind was now open to finding something better the next time I was in the market. When that time came around my mom had just bought some Hoka's and my dad had just bought some Altra's. I was convinced I wanted a max cushion shoe so I tried the new Brooks Ghost Max at the time and they were amazing. Because my dad bought an Altra shoe I tried one on, but it had very low cushioning and it was not a good fit for my foot. And because my mom had bought a Hoka, I tried a Bondi, which I didn't like, and a Clifton which I loved. Even though I wanted to like the Ghost Max's more, I had to be objective and choose the shoe that felt better and that was the Hoka Clifton. After wearing the Clifton's for over a year I noticed my toes were feeling crowded. I was getting some rubbing issues and ingrown nails, which had never happened to me before. I decided to do some research to try to find a max cushion, wide toe box with the benefits of low to zero drop. This was literally the only option. I decided to take a chance and order them from amazon without having any shop nearby to try them on. These are the best shoes I have put on my feet. These shoes deliver the benefits I was looking for, and the support is amazing. The cushioning is quite soft. My toes instantly felt the difference and I have not had the same issues since. What does bother me is what I have been reading on reddit. Apparently, the Altra FWD Via is supposed to be the replacement for this shoe and the Via Olympus line is being discontinued. The problem with that is the FWD Via shoe is not a zero drop. From what I have read, the majority of people who have switched over from this shoe are extremely disappointed in the cushioning and the much smaller toe box. I think it is a huge mistake for Altra to discontinue a shoe that is completely unique in the market place, only to replace it with something that is more like everything else and has been consistently reviewed as a worse shoe. In short, buy this shoe while you can!

Great shoe for long walks on hard surfaces!
I’m usually more of a zero drop low cushion sort of person when it comes to my athletic shoes but I did try these now that I’m getting a little bit up there to take some pressure off my feet for the longer walks with the dogs or to the stores etc. They really are like walking on clouds and I love the amount of space to give my toes. The only downsides to a shoe like this which I don’t think are inherent to the brand but rather just the type of shoe is that of course the wind whips right through them on a colder day And they’re not great if you plan on doing anything spontaneous to the left or right or going off trail because the very thick mallow-y sole has a good amount of side to side give. They’re also not something I would recommend while riding a bike. All that said if you’re looking for a great road walking shoe that you can get great miles out of and return home without sore feet then these are your go to sneakers… Assuming you also appreciate wide toe boxes like I do! I am over 225 pounds and the wear on the bottom of the shoes is still very hard to notice so I’m very impressed! The only thing I would’ve done differently is to buy the black shoe that would have worked out better with more outfits of mine when I go to the store or out and about.

Satisfied
Good. This replaced my Altra Torin 7. Via Olympus 2 stack height is obviously higher. Foam is stiff giving shoes stability. After a run when feet are hot, foam feels softer. Seems to bit slightly more roomy foot box than Torin 7, which feels slightly more comfortable, since I prefer more breathing room. Feels less stuffy since I mostly run in hot humid climate. Overall, comfy, and am satisfied with this colour combination of black and yellow.

Love these!!! Awesome comfort!
These shoes are incredible! I was hesitant to buy them based on some negative reviews, but I’ve been walking and running in them a lot, and they’re incredibly comfortable. The cushioning is amazing, and they feel like you’re walking on air. They have a zero drop design, which means they’re very flexible and allow your toes to naturally sprawl out. I highly recommend them! They’re well-styled, so no one will notice their wide toe. I bought the navy blue pair.

Exceptional Performance and Comfort!
As a person who spends 8 hours per day working on his feet, I'm always on the lookout for the perfect pair of comfortable shoes, and the Altra Via Olympus 2 men's running shoe exceeded all my expectations! From the moment I slipped them on, I could feel the difference. The cushioning is incredible, providing supreme support and stability. The wide toe box is a game-changer, allowing my toes to splay naturally and preventing any discomfort or blisters. The girp is fantastic. Plus, they're surprisingly lightweight for a shoe with so much cushioning. I've never experienced such comfort in a shoe before. These shoes are a game-changer, and I can't recommend them enough to runners or people like me who work on their feet and are looking for top-notch performance and comfort! NOTE: The shoe is marketed as being black in color. They are more of a medium to dark charcoal and not a true “black”. See my photos of the show next to true black items for comparison and reference. This was my only issue with the shoe, thus the 4 stars. If this isn’t an issue, do yourself a favor and buy a pair!

Resolved My Pain in the Foot ...
I had learned about Altra when my wife was having issues with plantar fasciitis. I researched them after reading about the brand on a podiatrist's website. I had started wearing zero drop shoes but started having issues with my heel after a year or so. I resolved it by wearing near-zero drop shoes with a bit more height/cushion to them. These fit very well and are true-to-size for me. I chose black because I can wear these at school when I teach. Plus, how can you go wrong with basic black?! The quality of shoe has been excellent and I'm looking forward to many more Altra shoes in my future. Highly recommended!

Great design with some quality issues
I don’t want to give three stars as Altra offers one of the few wide toe box and comfortable designs that work for my troubled feet (2 toe surgeries and an ankle reconstruction coming soon). However, for the price point, I would expect a more durable construction through the inner heel. After just a few months since purchasing, one shoe already has a tear in the fabric that extends to the cushion below. I have been very careful putting them on and off, even using a shoe horn to avoid pulling on the heel. Nonetheless, that inner heel is already wearing out (I have attempted to sew it and bolster the area with stitches, but that should not be necessary for such a new shoe at a premium price). This is my second pair, and the last pair had the same issue in both shoes. I bought them again though because my feet were desperate! I hope Altra will see this review and consider reinforcing that inner heel.

Amazingly comfortable
I’ll start by saying I HATE tennis shoes. I am either in sandals or barefoot. These are the only tennis shoes I will wear bc they don’t feel like the are suffocating my feet. The large rounder toe design is comfortable for toe movement and the overall shoe is extremely supporting with softness. After a bunionectomy and plantar fasciitis and trying MANY shoes, these are the only tennis shoes for me.

One of the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever used.
I was looking to start wearing shoes with wide toe box and zero drop to improve my foot health. At first I didn’t know what to expect, or even if I would see any difference. Now I can’t squeeze my toes in a normal shoe anymore and it has only been a month since I’ve started wearing these. When you first wear them you really notice the squishiness of the sole, but you get used to it pretty quick. I’ve combined these with toe socks, and they feel so comfortable. I’ve been switching between these and some vivobarefoot shoes, and they both have their merits. I’m glad ALTRA makes at least one model of their shoes in full black. I can’t understand why they can’t have a black version for all their shoes. This is my only pet peeve about ALTRA shoes in general. Other than that I can’t find any fault in these. People say their durability is questionable, but I guess that’s something I’ll have to wait and find out.

Terrific shoes
My husbands Dr told him to get a shoe that wasn’t so flexible at the toe area to give an open wound under his big toe a chance to heal . We bought these shoes and the Dr approved them . So we ordered these in order to have an indoor pair and an outdoor pair , they are terrific .

Via Olympus 2
Great everyday running shoe, amazingly with a nice wide toe box and zero drop. There isn't many options where these 2 characteristics are required. Foam is not as firm are the Olympus 1, but I think I prefer this upgrade, as absorbed more impact. Will definitely recommend for barefoot enthusiasts, who are looking for a running shoe with cushioning. Note - I have "Mortons Toe" (second toe is longer than big toe) so had to get a half size bigger and tie up the laces well, to prevent losing your nails after longer runs
