Fantastic value - solid UI, excellent camera, good looks, strong security - expect many years of use
Very happy so far. It's the second day, but everything is already set up the way I want it. I watched a video on hidden features and I'm enjoying those features already. I purchased this phone as both renewed and unlocked. The condition was excellent with no scratches or mars that I could tell. There were no issues switching from my old phone to this phone with my carrier (Visible) using my carrier's website, and this did not require speaking with anyone from my carrier. I'm pleased with the eSIM. The phone already had a screen protector. If I had known I probably wouldn't have purchased a screen protector. I like the looks of the phone. The camera bar on the back looks good to me (better than multiple lenses in a square or circle like many other phones). I'm not worried about scratching the lens as I would be with the other phones. It doesn't rock when placed on a flat surface. I like the color. Mine's old bay (similar to a periwinkle blue). I'm familiar with the Android UI, but I'm still getting used to Pixel's UI. On my old phone (another Android) it was easier to close all open programs. Also, I liked the way apps appeared when grouped together a little more on my old phone. With Pixel you have to keep swiping all the way to the left (past all the open apps) to get to Clear All. With Pixel you cannot see beyond the 4th app in a group, at least (to my knowledge) not without a separate app to organize your apps. This could be a good thing if you don't want an app to be obvious to shoulder surfers. I like having the fingerprint reader on the screen. The 3-button controls are also on the screen. I'm thrilled not to have all the bloatware I had with my old phone. I really resented my old phone manufacturer for preventing me from removing its preinstalled apps. It charges a bit slow (about 2 hours for full charge). I'd say the ability to hold and use a charge is good but not outstanding. I'm going to have to charge it daily. The display is bright and clear. Some reviewers have commented about the bezel being large, but I barely notice it. I prefer the plastic (8a) to a glass back. I think it looks good. I put mine in a case, so it appears just as shiny as a glass-backed phone would. The case does make it a bit harder to utilize the double-tap the back feature. The phone is fast, but I hear the Tensor processor isn't as fast as Snapdragon 8. I don't expect it'll be an issue for me. I'm not looking to run games in HD at 60+ fps. Photos are excellent. I like the quick flip gesture that switches between rear and front camera and the selfie illumination (screen turns white to shine light on your face) for selfies. I'm not used to the camera app's settings yet though. I like Google's security features. This was a major selling point for me. My old phone was past security updates, so I was vulnerable. I'm pleased that I have a few more years of regular software updates. The biometric unlock is really easy to use. After installing everything including my old apps, I have 87 GB free (I have the 128 GB memory version), so there's plenty of space. The overall value of this phone is great. You could spend 3-5X the cost of this renewed phone for the newest flagship model from another manufacturer. You'd have a moderate gain in processor power, but little/no gain in camera hardware. The newest model would have a couple more years of guaranteed software support, but for me, that isn't worth paying 2-4X extra. Pixel 8a will get software updates through May 2031, which is great.

Frustrated with my purchase
Was very pleased with my purchase at the start. The phone arrived from the seller quickly and in "like new" condition. Initial setup went smoothly. After getting the phone configured how I wanted it, I attempted to transfer my existing physical SIM card to the phone. The device's IMEI number was unlocked and my carrier (T-Mobile) was able to complete the transfer without issue. However, immediately upon restarting the phone with the SIM installed, I was met with a "SIM card isn't supported" notification and no cell service. A very kind Verizon support representative was able to give me some additional context: the phone has been reported "lost/stolen" in their system and the only person authorized to unlock it is the original account holder. There's nothing they or I can do in this situation. Given that the phone is unusable, I will be returning it for a refund. The seller has been very responsive over Amazon chat and provided a return shipping label, which at least has made that part of the experience simple. Looking at other Amazon reviews, this kind of experience is not uncommon, so be forewarned if you purchase an "unlocked" refurbished device.

Excellent condition, fully unlocked, works like a charm.
The non-technical review: Love it. Near-perfect condition with only one tiny nick on the corner of the casing. Screen and buttons are in pristine shape. Didn't come in a Google Pixel box, came in a SystemWireless box. Included accessories, which appear to be brand-new: * 2 USB-C cables * 1 USB-C charger brick (2 amp) * 1 SIM card removal tool Phone arrived with 27% battery charge, and appears to be factory reset. About the only unusual thing was that everything was pre-configured for Japanese language settings. No big deal, just switched it over to US English. The phone is very affordably priced and in great shape. 5/5, would buy from this seller again. The technical review: The phone I received appears to be both carrier-unlocked and SIM-unlocked. Received the standard T-Mobile "this phone may not be compatible with our network" SMS greeting, but best guess is that the model or IMEI was detected as being a non-T-Mobile device originally, which I don't care about. I purchased this phone explicitly with the intention of running GrapheneOS on it. The phone does correctly register a T-Mobile APN entries correctly: mms, supl, ia, and xcap. The phone supports LTE, HSPA+, HSPA, HSUPA, HSDPA, UMTS, Edge, GPRS, and NR. The bootloader is unlockable, and flashed GrapheneOS without a lick of trouble. Given that this phone is in top shape and wasn't even $300, and it's both Carrier/SIM unlocked and has an unlockable bootloader, this thing is a steal. I'm keeping it.

Exactly as advertised with minimal battery usage
To make it clear which seller I bought from, it was YY wireless - Phone is completely unlocked (OEM unlocked), did not immediately plug SIM card in since I installed grapheneOS so it is most likely carrier unlocked as well - grapheneOS runs fine and has no issues even when inserting sim card - Battery usage was 258 cycles, which is fine for excellent condition i think? - No visible scratches or wear on the phone at all - Phone was at a decent price for excellent condition. I checked multiple other online stores and they are around the same price (if not higher). If you want anything cheaper you will have to buy good or acceptable condition OR use facebook marketplace and ask the sellers if it is OEM unlocked with evidence. Some phones on FBMP are dirt cheap with maybe a few scratches so if you are looking for a budget pixel 8/9/10 that may be your best bet if there are sellers. - Return instructions in the box are available if you need them i guess - Phone only arrived a day late, which is fine and most likely due to fedex that day

Easy Setup and Seamless Carrier Transfer
The best part of this phone is definitely the software. We were able to transfer nearly all of the data from the old phone in about two hours, with the exception of one app. The process was straightforward and largely hassle-free. The second biggest highlight was how easy it was to transfer and activate our current SIM card. We were able to install it and connect to my carrier’s network without having to call customer support, which was a pleasant surprise and saved a lot of time. Beyond that, the camera is decent but nothing exceptional. It gets the job done, but it’s not a standout feature compared to the software experience and setup process. I also purchased a Google Pixel phone protector you can find it here: Spigen Tough Armor Designed for Pixel 8a Case (2024) [Kickstand] [Military-Grade Protection] - Black .

Excellent
The phone was in excellent shape despite being called very good! Unfortunately I didn't realize it was carrier locked, and as such it did me no good and I had to return it. This was not the sellers fault. The phone itself was in excellent shape.

Re-Cell Customer Service is a Joke
If I could give less that a start, I would give one point on the star. 1/5 of a start for the service! 1. I ordered a Pixel 8A but received a Samsung S25+ instead. Not a good look all around. Not a problem if he was out of Pixels and substituted a Samsung instead. But there was no explanation as to why the switch was initiated. 2. When I called the phone number, I got voice mail even after trying multiple times. 3. Initiated an email, and provided the order (invoice) number provided on the packing slip. Received a message asking for the exact information I had provided. 4. Decided to activate the Samsung because I need a phone for work and found out that Re-Cell never released the IMEI number, so I have no working phone. 5. Notified Re-Cell again and was instructed to either send the phone back to him or start the return process with Amazon. Welp, you cannot return a Samsung S25+ to Amazon when their records show a Pixel 8A was shipped. I had to send the phone back to Re-Cell and hope that a replacement would be sent. 6. Received an email from Re-Cell stating that they do not have an 8A to send so I would receive a credit back to my account for the amount paid. This all played out over the course of a week. I was left with an account locked by my carrier because I tried too many times to load the eSIM. This could have been easily addressed if Re-Cell was up front about the mis-shipped phone, the fact that they would not release the IMEI for the Samsung because they wanted it back. BOOOOO!!! and I don't mean Happy Halloween.

great refurbished device
the device arrived in such good refurbished condition that I have only a single small scratch on the front display to indicate that it wasn't a new device. everything functions well, and i think the battery was even replaced as part of the refurbish because it got better than expected battery performance in my testing for a tensor based pixel. the packaging it shipped in was larger than it needed to be, with lots of empty space, but the phone was wrapped well in bubble wrap so it was unlikely to experience damage in shipping despite the cavernous box. as for reviewing the device itself: it's a pixel. it has the same great hand feel, screen, cameras, speakers, etc that they've had for years. the tensor G3 still performs well in 2026, though i will note that you do get some additional slowdowns for app installs and launches on grapheneOS with this particular device if you are looking to go that way. it's nothing extreme, it's like 1 second on app launches and 20 seconds on installs, but it is noticeable.

Looks brand new!
First time buying a refurbished phone. I'm not a huge phone fanatic so getting an older model isn't an issue for me. This phone actually looks brand new, no scratches or anything. I've only just gotten it, so I can't really report on the battery. So far it's been more than I expected. What appears to be a brand new phone for less than $400 is a no brainer IMO.

Worth the price!!
Such a good phone for the price, almost identical to the iPhone 13 pro with half the price. I'd consider switching to Google way earlier than I did
