Can i buy the card now and wait to insert it into the vodafone, or does it begin to count down as soon as i buy it? how long do i have to install it?

You do not have to insert and activate right away. The 30 days starts when you actually insert the SIM and it registers on the Vodafone system. I don't know exactly how long you have to activate the SIM but I do know it's in excess of 6 months.
