What is approx resistance on coils ? Can more resistance coils be purchased?

This unit has a state-of-the-art spring system for easy resistance adjustments that includes 4 x 100% (full tension) springs plus 1 x 50% (half tension) spring. We also offer a High Precision Spring Package that includes 3 × 100% springs, 1 × 50% Spring and 1 × 25% Spring that you can purchase on www.merrithew.com. We recommend that you replace the springs on your Reformer every two years to ensure maximum performance and safety of your equipment at all times. Our springs are custom crafted using the finest quality wire. Are the springs replaceable if they wear out?

Yes. If they are not on amazon, Merrithew/Stott sells them from their website. I actually recommend buying their 25% spring and sub it for one of the red(100%) springs that the machine comes with.

I am mechanically challenged. Just how complicated is it to set up?

It also includes an assembly manual (http://www.merrithew.com/support/equipment-manuals-assembly) and typically takes 15-20 minutes to assemble. How much space do I need to have on either side? Just enough for my arms to swing or more than that?

Hello! You should have enough space for both arms and legs to open the maximum range you have to the sides. Hope that helps!
