Targus XL Top-Loading Case Designed for 17-Inch Notebooks, Black (TXL417)

Awesome case at a awesome price. Beats anything I have seen at almost any price, yet this bag from Amazon was $30 with free shipping. Excellent construction, loads of storage space. My Dell Inspiron 17r fits nicely in its compartment, with a velcro tie down should you want to use it. Can carry folders, DVD's, pens, paper, phone, folders or even some light clothing. If you are looking for case for a 17" laptop, check this one out! The heavy duty research I did payed off with the purchase of this bag. Additional pictures are available at the Targus website.

I searched long and hard for a lightweight bag which would accomodate a 17" Dell laptop. I am very small framed and carry this laptop literally every day between work, home and client's offices. So many of the bags that will accomodate this size laptop weigh over 5 lbs, and when added to the weight of the laptop, charger, etc. is too heavy for me. I especially like the molded handle which gives a good secure grip that doesn't strain your hands. I've had this bag for about 3 months now and am very pleased. The zippers don't zip as quickly as I'd like, but otherwise it's a perfect bag for me. Roomy enough for my accessories and a few files. Keeps me from having to carry the laptop plus a briefcase.

As one other reviewer mentioned, most (if not all) the reviews on here are for a completely different item, a giant backpack that has little in common with the Targus TXL417 17 XL Notebook Case other than a similar looking model number. Not sure why this happened, as it is very misleading. Anyway, on to the review. I had received a Samsonite leather case as a gift a few years ago, however, the piece that connects the shoulder strap to the bag had almost completely worn away. So, I wanted a new bag that could hold either my 15" dell laptop for work or my 17" hp personal laptop, along with accessories, books, etc, and I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars. This case has a lot of space for your laptop. It's nice and padded, and actually has so much room I could probably fit both my laptops in there at the same time. Technically that's not something you want to try, but that's how much space there is in there. I can easily fit my laptop, power supply, wireless mouse, ipod, headphones and a host of other accessories. I spend a lot of time at work and have a mini-pharmacy in my bag, plus lots of papers and whatever book I'm currently reading. This guy carries it all, and the best part is it's really light- when I had that much stuff in my Samsonite leather case, it felt like I was carrying a small child on my shoulder. Not anymore. This case is made of nylon, and to be quite honest, it isn't the nicest looking thing in the world, I mean compared with other people at my office who have great looking leather bags that probably cost $200+. But that is the least important thing to me, because again my old leather case was nice, but it was heavy, and fell apart after minimal use. This case seems sturdy, and again is quite comfortable. One thing to keep in mind is, while this is roomy for being just a notebook case, it is not a suitcase; i.e. don't expect to fit all of the above I mentioned, PLUS like a change of clothes. Technically you might be able to fit a few pieces of clothing in there, but that's clearly not what it was made for. Bottom line, if you're looking for an inexpensive, quality, roomy and comfortable case that can fit pretty much any size laptop plus any accessories without feeling too bulky, this is a great choice. And if you have to replace it again in a few years, you only paid $50 for it. Not bad considering other bags out there cost double, triple, even 4-5x this one, but will deteriorate at the same rate (ex. my old ~$100 Samsonite case, which I treated fairly well and did not abuse in any way). Good stuff. One other note- I used the amazon super saver shipping for free shipping. I placed the order on Friday morning, it was delivered to my door Tuesday afternoon. Why ever pay for shipping?

I am so very happy with this laptop bag. It's the best one I've found for large 17" widescreen laptops. My HP Elitebook 8760w 17" fits with room to spare, and the interior is nicely padded and soft. Got lots of other storage space, and the handles and shoulder straps are sturdy. I'm sure there are other much more expensive bags that are as good or better, but this bad at this price is fantastic.

Bought for a 15 inch notebook with the expectation of it accomadating additional accessories and/or a 17 inch notebook in the future. Has plenty of room for a 17 inch notebook and a partition for adjusting the main compartment. Well laid out with a front pocket for paper materials and additional front and rear storage for accessories. Has useful slip-in mesh containers for accessories. Handle, adjustable strap and zippers are durable, well-sewn and easy to use. Rear luggage handle strap is designed for secure mounting. A very well designed bag.

I have been using this bag for quite a few months. It not only has room for my laptop, but also has room for everything I need to go with the laptop (ie: headphones, charging cord, misc. cords, etc.). It also has room for some of my books for my photography class. BUT, it is heavy and it will not stay on my shoulder. The handles are made to fit together for a more comfortable grip, but I have found this to be a royal pain. It is a good sturdy bag with alot of room for everything I need to carry, I just got tired of it always sliding off my shoulder. So I ordered a backpack which I totally love.

Product is not as advertised on the Targus Website (TXL417). There is no zippered cell phone pocket and it only contains one mesh accessory pouch that is nothing like the older versions (small pouch of nylon with mesh window and a zipper) The older pouches were as shown with the TXL717. Very disappointed in overall quality, very little padding for the computer. Simply don't understand how Amazon gets away with selling a product that is very similar but different than what is advertised. This seems to be a growing issue with Amazon based on my recent experience with purchases over the past 3 months.

This is a lovely bag. Except for the hard-plastic handle, which means that I almost never take it anywhere with me … which makes it useless. The two hard plastic handle halves nest together, creating a single handle when you bring them together. This is a very clever idea, and I'm in favor of it. But in practice, they don't "snap" together, and will actually come apart if you joggle the bag. Inevitably, when this happens, a little bit of the pads beneath my fingers (the top of my palm) pushes up into the gap and gets PAINFULLY PINCHED when the two haves come together again. OUCH!!! The heavier the load in the bag, the more likely the handle is to stay together (good), but the more likely you are to switch to the shoulder strap (makes the first point moot). I would give this bag 4+ stars if this handle defect were fixed. Unfortunately for me, I waited too long to return it.
