Heston SUB 200 Wireless subwoofer with Bluetooth LE-Audio

Excellent sound and range, and it looks pretty good as well. Came with the wrong cord (EU plug), but luckily I had a spare cord that I could use. So other than that it’s great.

I already have the Marshall Heston soundbar, so adding the Heston Sub 200 was the obvious next step, and I’m glad I did. Setup was completely painless using the bluetooth connection feature. It paired with my soundbar flawlessly and I had it up and running in no time without any issues, dropouts, or frustrating setup steps. It immediately felt like it was made to complete the system rather than just add more bass. The improvement in sound was easy to notice right away. Movies have much more impact, music sounds fuller, and low end effects now have the kind of weight and depth that the soundbar alone just cannot deliver on its own. It adds that extra rumble and body without sounding muddy or overblown, and it blends in very nicely with the Heston soundbar instead of overpowering it. I also like that it keeps the clean Marshall look and doesn’t make the setup feel cluttered. If you already own the Marshall Heston soundbar and want to take the system up a level, this is a very worthwhile addition. In my case it connected flawlessly, worked exactly as it should, and made the whole setup sound much bigger and more complete.

The goal for this sub was to enhance an older VISIO TV that actually has decent sound(there has been no need to incorporate a soundbar). For this review, we have two other subs that I am comparing to (one above and one below). My first impressions of the packaging of this sub was beautiful and well thought out and cared for. The over the top owner's manual says nothing more than plug it in and download the app which I am not thrilled to have yet another app take up space on my phone. So, I did try test out a couple ways. Yes, I was able to work this without the app but only without some of the features that can be utilized with the app. I do wish there was some sort of QR code or suggestion on the app since when I went to the my iphone, I found 5 different apps. The first one didn't work so I had to delete and try the others. Since I was investing way too much of my time, I decided to wait and try out the next day. And to my surprise, I re-tried the first app and it located the sub and now I can use the remote control for level, phase control and cross-over frequency. The ability to make adjustments while viewing the tv is certainly better than continually getting up to do so. The two other subs that I am comparing this Marshall Heston Sub 200 against is the Velodyne SPL88G ($1,099) and Klipsch SUB6 ($199) which I currently both also own. The price point for the Marshall Heston falls in the middle of the two. I found it the Marshall to be smaller & cuter(from a female perspective) and the performance is decent. I am not pairing this with a Marshall soundbar but if you do, it will transmit signal to the sub, eliminating the need for an audio cable (wireless). The Velodyne outperforms the Marshall obviously and I actually have that paired with a different system for listening to music. The Klipsch does a decent job paired with the TV, but the Marshall outperforms it. A major challenge with any sub is adding low frequencies without being aware of where the sub is located. It should seem invisible as to the location and blend with the rest of the system. And, this is where the Klipsch didn't pass and the Marshall did. While watching a movie, with the Marshall, you can actually detect and hear the difference with the bass on the lower end effects that were not even noticeable with the Klipsch.

This Marshall subwoofer adds nice depth to my TV and music. The bass is deep and punchy without being boomy. The Bluetooth LE connection was easy to set up, no lag with video. The compact size fits in my media console. The RCA mono input gives options for older setups. The black finish matches everything. Good for anyone wanting to upgrade their sound without a huge sub.
