TASCAM DR-70D 4-Channel DSLR Audio Recorder

UPDATE1:In response to my letter, TASCAM requested me to send it to them for closer examination by their engineers. So, I have sent it across for further investigation. My own investigations have revealed beyond doubt that there is an inherent manufacturing defect giving rise to white noise in all the three gains in combination with mono, dual mono, stereo, dual stereo. Will update when I receive their investigation result. UPDATE2: After examining the unit at their Mumbai facility, the distributor has sent the unit to their Delhi facility for reasons best known to them. I was not briefed why it needed to be sent to their facility in Delhi. I am thinking of renting a unit to complete my shooting. Will update as soon as I hear from them. UPDATE3: Tascam distributor in Delhi has confirmed that there is a white noise in the unit at the switch on stage. They tested it with another new unit and found that even the new unit has a noise problem. My unit anyway has a noise problem and their new unit for testing purpose also has a noise problem. They got confused and did not know what to say or do and asked asked me to get in touch with the Seller Cambium Retail. Cambium is now going to investigate all over and decide. I lost more than 10 days in trying to resolve it.FINALLY: The seller after admitting that in all the TASCAM D-60 MKII recorders they have at their disposal for sale there is an inherent hum (noise), finally refunded 14000+ out of 18423 that I had paid. I lost lost over 4000 rupees for no fault of mine. So, those of you who are seriously into professionally acceptable clean sound recording, this is certainly not the recorder/audio interface to go for. It is a bad recorder full of noise. Thank you.

Good high grade professional portable sound recorder. It renders supreme quality nearly noiseless sound recording. Gives option of low frequency redundant sound recording as well.

Its one of the best n cost effective recorder n pre amps, individually controlled tracks.

I use this as my primary recording device on field. I must say, it works as miracle.

The DR701D does not function as advertised. HDMI rec trigger does not work with all cameras. In fact the list is very small. Beware.Tascam customer service is a joke, they cannot be bothered to respond to to customers who have purchased their products. Perhaps if Teac respected their customers they would still be a well known name?

This is SUCH a good bit of kit. Prior to this I owned the DR100MK2 which broke / never worked properly and cost more than double the price. Wish I'd got this from the word go! Love it. I'm using a USB power bank to power it as the AA batteries don't last as long as I need them to. I've run sound for 2 full day continuous shoots and it's only half drained the USB power bank so this unit doesn't draw too much power even using +48V. Very impressed.

First and foremost - the preamps are of top notch, professional quality. I record lots of classical music videos for conservatory piano students and occasionally for professional concert pianists, therefore my highest priority is clean, high sensitivity inputs. My goto-mics are Rode NT4 and Behringer B5 pairs which have never sounded better to my ears. In fact, I dare say it made the piano performances sound better than heard directly as I found, and based on the clients' feedbacks. I typically record to SD, with my Panasonic GH4 synched to the Tascam via HDMI input for post-processing via Adobe Audition and Vegas Pro 17. It's an expensive unit, no doubt, but this time, but worth the investment.The only con but overcome-able: cumbersome menu system compared to DR60D MKii. Takes some getting used to as it's not structured.

Great performance - but given that this is designed to be used atop a camera, placing the information screen and controls on the top surface is silly. It’s also the case that the controls are too small and lack feedback - there’s too long a lag at start-up too.

J'ai acheté cet article pour mes vidéos, notamment sur la chaîne YouTube 20CentHardware.Le but est d'une part de pouvoir enregistrer un audio amplifié et pouvoir mélanger plusieurs lignes. Mission accomplie ! L'audio sortant de mon Rode NTG4+ est formidable, idem pour mes micro cravate. J'utilise une caméra émettant un timecode via HDMI et ça fonctionne à merveille ! Les pistes sont synchronisées et les enregistrements de longueur identique. Pas de besoin de clap de synchro (sauf si on est parano). Enregistrement en WAV 24bit 48kHz de super qualité.Je craignais d'être bloqué par les 19 pages de réglages (lu sur un review en ligne) mais elles sont au final toutes utiles, intuitives quand on touche un peu à du matériel / signal audio, et je suis bien content qu'elles soient là.Mes réserves :Impossible de connecter un smartlav+ avec adaptateur sur les input classiques, car ils ne peuvent pas les alimenter. Il faut passer par l'input micro.L'autonomie : La consommation est impressionnante et les 4 piles seront vides en 20-40mn max. Il est heureusement possible de l'alimenter via USB, c'est ce qui le sauve.
