Long Term Compass
"The things you think about determine the quality of your mind. Your soul takes on the colour of your thoughts." You might have read/heard something like this somewhere but we never really pay attention to it and we continue to do what we always do. "Meditations" by Marcus Aurelius is not a unique book, all the things written inside it are taken from daily life examples and the problems one faces in their entire lifetime. After reading this book all you will realize that everything is around you yet you never pay attention towards it. In fact, this book is a collection of all the personal notes of the author to himself. He created a philosophy which explores through some insights of real world which are inspiring but not unique. This book can help a person as a morale compass for long term and as a source of short term motivation when needed. Most importantly, "Meditations" is all about bringing in some practices in our daily life routine to help achieve what we desire most. It doesn't ask for much but few moments of solitude. I can mention some Values defined in this book which can help one to live by: -Humble, Simple, Accepting, Energetic, Persistent, Pragmatic, Having integrity, purposeful, Being an observer, Seizing the present, Forgiving, Rational etc. Lastly, one method which can help you to simplify your life is by practicing one thing everyday in your life is meditation on paper: One should take at least 15 minutes of time to write on a piece of paper about all the problems he/she is facing, all the challenges or write whatever comes to your mind. The only thing is you cannot stop until the time runs out. When you write with your hand there's something behind it. I hope this review helps you to learn something about your life. "It never ceases to amaze me: we all love ourselves more than other people, but care more about their opinion than our own.”

Book with great wisdom.
The pages were of good quality. Book contains total of 180 + pages. Cover quality and design is also best. This book contains great wisdoms from Stoic philosophy and these writings were the personal self guide memoirs of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius himself.

George Long's (archaic language) translation
The quality and print are fine for the price, and George Long gets the translation technically correct. But Marcus Aurelius comes through… in Elizabethan English. Every line reads like a cryptic lecture: “thyself,” “whensoever,” “henceforth.” You spend more energy decoding the sentences than actually learning how to live. If your goal is actionable Stoicism—discipline, resilience, decision-making—this edition will slow you down. It’s a reference, not a manual. Use it to check quotes or study Marcus academically. For practical application, go with Gregory Hays or Ryan Holiday.

Life's lessons simplified
By accident, we stumble upon some books. Nowadays, I don't visit bookstalls or libraries. I skip through fast when I come across book reviews. Oddly, I got introduced to "Meditations" while surfing the net for something related to Psychology. What attracted my attention was the fact that a book by an author who lived during AD 121 (Born on April 26) to AD 180 (Died on March 17) is still live in the media. If his thoughts got compiled and now they are available in book form (*Published in 2026) the book is special. As usual, when I received the book, I started reading pages selected at random. The 17 page introduction more or less covering the life and times of Marcus Aurelius, literally made me curious to read the book from cover to cover. We need not agree with the views expressed almost 1900 years ago or dig for rationale for the statements made in the situation prevailing then. Still we can accept the reality that gods were not blindly believed then or now and people tried to know more and some who could realise truth tried to share the wisdom with seekers.

Essence' of stoic philosophy. The best amongst them
The book is purely profound and there are ground-breaking insights throughout the book. However, the exact interpretation of what the writer is conveying is sort of hard to get because the book is translated in Archaic english, which is the older version of english and the translation quality is not that appreciable. After reading, it is a magnanimous task to comprehend it in your brain. However, this book provides us the essence of stoicism. As Marcus Aurelius was the last renowned stoic philosopher, his writings also include the works of other philosophers who lived before him. It is one of the finest texts ever produced by mankind.
