does this item glue on or bolt on ?

You cut a hole in the roof, seal the metal edge to stop it rusting, then run sealant around the top side of the hole. The vent has a bolt on the bottom which is unscrewed and you pul the top and bottom halves apart, insert the top half through the hole in the top of the roof, then screw the bottom half to back to the top from inside the vehicle... quite simple.

Does this have / need a bug guard please?

I haven’t had any issues with bugs so far, works well for my camper.

Yes this is possible if you find a longer bolt and ensure it is adequately packed between the roof and interior.
