Arc'teryx is a favorite brand for me and my family, and it must be scored for its impeccable design and practicality.

This is an excellent jacket. I've owned mine for a few years and it's held up very well. It's a little pricy, but that's Arcteryx.

Expecting cold temperatures and high winds? This is the jacket for you! The Gamma MX has a thick windbreaker exterior with a thin fleece interior, making it very comfortable in most conditions. It can be paired with just a light baselayer in warmer conditions (say 40s - 50s) or be worn with down insulation underneath for colder temperatures. Expecting rain or wet snow? It also fits well under hardshells to keep you dry and comfortable. Here is a breakdown on what I think about the Gamma MX:**The Good**1. Breathability: The main advantage I see over its competitors (and reason why it's worth the extra price) is how breathable this jacket is. Ideally, it is meant for active pursuits where your body might heat up. In very cold conditions, you want to avoid sweating at all costs and being able to vent extra heat goes a long way towards that goal.2. Comfort: As with every Arc'Teryx product I have tried, this jacket is very comfortable. I have worn it in warmer conditions with just a t-shirt underneath and the fleece lining feels pretty nice on bare skin. For colder environments, it somehow manages to be comfortably snug and still has room to layer insulation underneath. I suspect magic.3. Rain-Shedding Ability: It is important to note that this is not a rain jacket and should not be used in place of one. However, if you do get surprised by a sudden down-pour, this jacket does keep you dry long enough to break out your hardshell.4. Style: While Arc'Teryx clothing tends to be very comfortable, it often makes you look like you are either 1) about to go on or 2) just got back from a camping trip. The Gamma MX is a little more "street-appropriate" and can be worn in a wider variety of settings.**The Bad**Cuffs: Arc'Teryx had a big miss on this one. Usually, their cuffs are comfortable enough to notice (which is something that has to be pretty good to notice). However, the cuffs on the Gamma MX are pretty tight and not very flexible. They should either add a little more elastic or go straight to adjustable velcro. I usually wear a pretty thin watch and struggle to get it through the sleeve without catching. Medium watches would most likely have consistent problems and large watches might have to be removed when putting on the jacket. This might seem like a lot of review for cuffs, but they keep this jacket from being a 5-Star product.**Disclaimer** I work at an outdoor retailer and received a discount on this item. I live in SE Montana and this is my go-to daily jacket for 90% of the stuff I do. Water resistant (although I'm seldom out in a pouring rain in this). Very good quality jacket.
