If You Have ADHD and Anger Issues, This Book is for YOU!
Impulse and Fire is a comprehensive guide to anger and rage as experienced by people who have ADHD. Upon reading this volume, one can have a thorough understanding of the biologic, emotional, and environmental factors which contribute to anger and rage boiling over. Dr. Richard offers multiple strategies for sorting out one’s feelings and the situations or emotional states which escalate irritation and lead to embarrassing meltdowns. She also offers a variety of mnemonic processes for getting to the root of the matter at hand, allowing one to better understand and control one’s response to triggers. Do you want to end the cycle of becoming demonstrably angry at work or in social situations and feeling ashamed afterward? This book is a bargain for what it can do for you (or rather, what it can help you do for yourself), and its price is lower than the copay for a single therapy session in the USA! Very helpful guide
This book is a very helpful guide for anyone who struggles to regulate their emotions because of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). In these pages, such people will find solace in the fact that their struggles are not, in fact, due to any flaw in their character or morality, but are actually due to a divergence in the way their brain processes information and stimuli from the outside world. The author focuses on the unexplained aggression exhibited by many people who have ADHD, but also addresses the other potential struggles which are all part of the ADHD challenge. Understanding how the brain works when processing outside stimuli and internal mental processes and realizing that for those with ADHD, those processes don’t function the way that they do for the rest of us, is the first step. Second is to find the right balance of medication, therapy, and coping mechanisms, unique for each individual with ADHD, that will allow them to overcome their struggles, and even thrive on their strengths, potentially high creativity, mental energy, and problem solving abilities. As the author states, no emotion is a “bad” emotion, even those that are typically viewed as negative like anger, fear, and sadness. Every emotion serves a purpose and makes us human, it’s how we react to and process the emotions, and what we allow, and do not allow ourselves to do or say based on said emotion that determines if the effect of the emotion will be negative or positive. That is a huge struggle for many with ADHD, and this book will help them navigate it. It can also help those who care about individuals who struggle with ADHD to be able to understand their loved ones and be more supportive and helpful. Five Stars!!!

A very helpful resource
This is one of those books that is great to have on your shelf as a therapist. It supports all over well-being. Often times interventions are specified, as well as utilization of the different approaches that are given within the pages. I’ve been your license book with clients and have found it to be a very excellent touch point to support exploring reframing, and processing difficult emotions. Grounded, Insightful, and Compassionate ADHD Recovery Guide
This is a remarkably clear and compassionate guide to understanding emotional regulation for adults with ADHD. Dr. Yulia Michael blends CBT, DBT, and mindfulness tools with warmth and clinical precision, creating a balance between science and empathy. The structure is logical and easy to follow, with short, focused chapters that help readers build real emotional skills instead of abstract knowledge. Practical exercises are woven naturally into the text, so readers feel guided rather than lectured. What makes this book stand out is its calm, reassuring tone — it invites readers to be patient with themselves and to view recovery as a gradual, empowering process. A valuable resource for therapists, caregivers, and anyone seeking to better understand how emotional regulation truly works. Another great book by Dr. Yulia Richard
As someone with ADHD and a lot of trauma in my past, I purposely seek out books like "Impulse and Fire" to help me with my mental and emotional struggles. The way Dr. Yuliya Richard weaves science-backed techniques from CBT, DBT, trauma therapy, and mindfulness has really drawn me in. I've learned over the years that CBD and DBT methods are very beneficial to my constantly bouncing brain so I am always looking to improve learning how to use these methods on myself. My favorite chapters are the ones that start off with relatable stories about others. This really kept me engaged in the book! I get very bored and struggle to finish books that feel less personal and give off more of a "text book" kind of vibe. Learning about how my brain processes emotions—especially through the lens of neurobiology—has been eye-opening. The additional strategies I’ve gained from understanding CBT and DBT methods even more I'n depth have genuinely helped me start managing my emotional overload even better. I’ve noticed that I can spot my triggers more clearly. I am better at using grounding techniques and mindfulness practices to stay present when my emotions threaten to spiral out of control, which interestingly enough I've learned that I over-react to small things and under-react to big things. I’ve loved everything about this book—except the cover picture. Honestly, it just doesn’t speak to me visually, but that’s such a tiny thing compared to the richness of the content inside. This book has given me hope that I can learn to find calm amidst the chaos, that my impulsivity and intense feelings don’t have to run the show. It’s made me feel seen and understood in ways I’ve long needed. If you’re someone who struggles with emotional regulation, especially if ADHD and trauma are part of your story, I cannot recommend this enough. Dr. Yuliya Richard is such a compassionate person, acknowledging the messiness of our minds and offers real, workable solutions.
