Keeping it clean
I installed this in a 2019 Explorer for scheduled maintenance. The old one was definitely doing its job judging by the pollen and debris that was packed full of. Replacement was easy and airflow through the vents has definitely increased. These things catch a lot of stuff that leads to that mildewy refrigerator smell that everyone hated. You can't go wrong by using factory quality parts that fit perfectly.

Fits my '13 Flex -- easy peasy tool-free replacement...
The filter is fine. Nothing fancy, it's a genuine Motorcraft replacement for Ford and Lincoln vehicles. I noted it's missing the "Airflow ^ (direction arrow)" notation that is present on the side of the factory-installed filter, although there doesn't appear to be any directionality to it -- probably more so to ensure it's reinstalled in the correct orientation if you were to re-install it after removing it for a quick visual inspection. If you're curious about the difficulty of the installation, don't be worried! It's a tool-free replacement process that takes all of three minutes. On my Flex, the filter is in a slot behind the glove compartment. The plastic sides of the glove box need to be pressed inward so that the box opens past the stops, far enough to dump any contents to the floor (hopefully you've already removed your owner manual and gloves (?)). Then there's a small syringe-like "soft open" plunger on the left side that connects with a little button. This should be slid up in its slot so the button can pop out of the plastic glove box side. (It'll be obvious when you're fiddling with it.) Then locate a thin trap door over the HVAC blower motor. There are two thumb latches on the bottom side of this trap door; lift against those (with your thumbs!) and it'll open like a lid. Remove it completely and you'll see the old filter hidden behind. It pulls right out. Assembly is easier than removal. Just don't drop anything into the open filter slot -- I suspect the HVAC blower blades are exposed right below where the filter sits.

Motorcraft FP-68 Cabin Air Filter (2014 Explorer)
Motorcraft FP-68 Cabin Air Filter (2014 Ford Explorer)... ok, watched the video, looked fairly doable. Took me over an hour, ugh. Glove box came out ok, but those stupid pins you're supposed to slide back and forth into the hinge of the glovebox were just impossible to reinstall, took me forever, finally got them in, but what a struggle, be prepared for a fight. Have 74k miles on the truck, first and last time for this filter!! ...definitely needed to be done, it was restricting airflow.

USE THIS ONE - NOT A HEPA, IN YOUR EXPLORER!!
2010-2022 EXPLORER OWNERS - PLEASE READ: My local mechanic changed cabin air filter in our 2017 Explorer. He put in a HEPA filter that came up as a fit for our car. HOWEVER: It cut down the air flow so badly, that we barely got any A/C or air out the vents! After some research, I found out that Explorer cabin air flow is not strong enough to pull through a HEPA filter! I put an OEM original filter in, and immediately the air flow was restored and all is good. LESSON: Even though aftermarket filters say they fit, it doesn't mean they actually work! DON'T BUY HEPA FILTERS FOR YOUR EXPLORER. THEY WON'T WORK PROPERLY, AND WILL CUT AIR FLOW. USE THE ORIGINAL MOTORCRAFT FP-68 OR EXACT EQUIVALENT.

OEM part, would have been ideal if vehicle access was as easy as it was to take filter out of its box !! Ford Explorer location is very tight, Big hands didn't help.

It did not work as the sides of the filter are too soft to be pushed into the slot. Even though it seemed nearly identical to what I intended to replace (form-factor, writings on sides, etc.) it was still quite different as mentioned above. The original installed had harder sides that allowed it to be pulled out and pushed back easily without jamming it, while this one was jammed right away when just attempted to push it in. I am returning it.
