The others were outdated because so much keeps changing on social media. This one looks more at social media marketing and doesn't get into the specifics of each social media network. I couldn't follow the hour a day directions and ended up just skipping around and reading it at random. I keep this on my desk for when I'm looking at my social media strategy, etc.

I got a few of these "An Hour a Day" ...
I got a few of these "An Hour a Day" books on social media. I found this the most helpful. The others were outdated because so much keeps changing on social media. This one looks more at social media marketing and doesn't get into the specifics of each social media network. I couldn't follow the hour a day directions and ended up just skipping around and reading it at random. I keep this on my desk for when I'm looking at my social media strategy, etc.

Poorly organized. Is this supposed to be a college course - 3 months long?
incredibly disappointing. Too complex and poorly organized. The major social media platforms are scattered all over the book. I find it incomprehensible that this book has received this many good reviews. it is horribly organized and flat doesn't teach me what I need to know. The hour per day takes 3 months to complete. This is idiocy. Sorry, but it is. For those who liked it...good on you. It is useless to me.

Great learning and reference guide
This book shows one how to manage social media marketing campaigns in a simple and straight forward way and is a great reference book to continuously keep one on track.

Great Social Media How To Broken into Bite Sized Pieces
This book is broken into bite sized pieces which allows you to put yourself on a self-paced course of social media. The author does a great job in the first chapter of sharing the evolution of television advertising and how it morphed into what we now know today as social media. This is an all -encompassing book that any person or company can use to roll out a full marketing plan and how to incorporate traditional media marketing, print marketing and social media. It teaches you how to track social media and the importance of synergy between the marketing dept. and the operations department. If you're brand new to social media and don't really understand it, just start at chapter one and work your way through. If you're more experienced, you can skip to the back chapters for more of the how to's and strategies. Its laid out so you can learn in just 1 hour a day and it will take about 3 months or you can do multiple chapters and "to do lists" in one sitting and implement a social media campaign in just a couple of weeks or less.

The author wants you to go to web sites that ...
The author wants you to go to web sites that may have existed when he first wrote the book; but he didn't update them for the second edition and several of them no longer exist. He also tells you to create items without telling you what they are or how to create them. This book was obviously written for enterprise-sized businesses that sell a product. It was also written for businesses which have huge marketing budgets. It was very long on theory and very short on practice.

Difficult to follow for beginners entering social media.

I bought this book after reading the synopsis as I wanted to refresh my social media marketing skills. The book promises much but delivers little if you are a UK-based SME or small business wanting to get a foot-hold in social media marketing. The idea is sound - exercises of one hour at a time but the content less so. The early exercises consist of looking at blog resources and wikis - which would be great if a) the links worked, b) were not out-of-date and c) were relevant to the UK if a or b were not applicable. Annoyingly the book comes with worksheets to follow and points the reader at a link to a publisher web site. This link is also broken so you couldn't get hold of the promised resources even if you wanted to. I am disappointed as I did invest a good few hours in this book before giving up and returning it to Amazon. My advice would be against buying this book if you are running a small business in the UK and you want to increase your exposure to social media applications. However if you just want to learn the history behind social media branding in the US you won't go far wrong. This, however is not how the book is advertised.
