Love this heater!
I bought one of these heaters to use downstairs in my computer room. That room has no heat at all in it. I spend a lot of time on my computer and in the winter I just about freeze to death down there. I did research here on Amazon and read many reviews before deciding on this one. I really liked the idea that it was thermostat controlled. I put the heater next to my computer desk on the floor and set it to #1 and then turned up the other knob until the heat started running. This heater put out a lot of heat, even on the 1 setting, and my feet began to feel hot. So I got a small step stool I had and put it on that to see if the heat would cover the rest of my body better. This was a big improvement because then my whole body was warm. In fact, it warmed me so well that I had to push the heater further away from me and not point it directly on me because it did get a little too warm after awhile. My computer room is a rather large room, at least 16X24, so the room does not get toasty warm with this heater. But it does take off the chill of the room and makes it comfortable. I have never had to use the #2 setting on this heater and from what I understand from reading here, the lower the number that you use, the less electricity that you use. I liked this heater so well I decided to buy another one for a large bathroom that we have--the bathroom is as big as a very small bedroom. I take showers and this bathroom is the only one that has a shower stall in it, but during the winter it feels so cold in there after you get out of the shower. So I ordered another one. Evidently the second heater I ordered did not come from the same seller and later I found out it was a refurbished heater. That would explain why this 2nd heater did not run well. Not only did it not push out the heat, it made a terrible noise. I told my husband that something was wrong with the heater and had him to compare the 2 heaters side by side and even he could tell the difference in how much the heaters put out. I call Amazon and told them the problem. I sent it back to Amazon, free shipping back, and re-ordered another one of these heaters. It was when I decided to send the 2nd heater back that I discovered it was a refurbished heater--and the price for the refurbished heater was a higher price than the band new heat I bought the first time. There was only about 3 months difference between the times I ordered the first and the second heater so there should not have been that much of a rise in price. The 3rd heater I ordered came and ran just as well as the first one did--and was a cheaper price than the refurbished non working heater I bought the second time. So make sure when you order one of these heaters that you are not ordering a used/refurbished heater or you might run into the same problem I had. Would I order another one of these heaters again? You bet, because for the money they put out a lot of heat and work very well.

Great little heater; works much better than expected
Got 2 of these for my 2 'coldest' rooms so I can lower the thermostat during the day and use these instead.(I would never use any space heater at night when I am unconscious and not able to keep an eye on them). They are small but powerful with 2 heat settings, a 'fan only' function, and a thermostat dial with 11 settings. It has an automatic 'overheat' kill switch, shutting the appliance off if it begins to overheat (but I've not experienced that to date). While the instructions caution one about the ceramic exterior getting hot, I have not experienced that even though I've been watching (and feeling) for it. This unit measures 8.5" high, 6" wide and 4.5" in depth (smaller than 2 boxes of tissues stacked upright)and is pleasing to the eye. Easy to use, one can turn it on and set it to run as long as desired, or use the thermostat setting for it to come on/turn off as the area warms to your settings. Easy to set the thermostat function: turn unit on full blast until the room/area warms to your satisfaction, then slowly turn the thermostat dial down until the unit stops running. After that, it will turn on/off as the room cools/warms per your setting. To reset to a different therm. setting, simply let unit cool completely (unplug for about 10 minutes) and you can reset as before. A small, unobtrusive red 'on' light peeks at you from the center front top of the unit so one always knows it is plugged in. They require a 120 outlet and instructions caution NOT to use surge suppresors, power strips or extension cords for its operation. I've used these in the cellar while I'm doing laundry/ironing (unfinished cellar is cold and damp in the winter months), and aside from keeping me from getting chilled, I've noticed it helps to dry the clothes on the cellar lines & drying racks also. It is intended for use on the floor, not on furniture. This may be an issue for those with young children or pets, but it is easily placed behind an open bottomed chair, area table with legs, beneath a coffee table, etc. Right now, one is beneath my kitchen table with the chairs in front of it as the 6 dogs go in/out the back door all day/night long. I no longer have to walk into a freezing kitchen because I've had to open the back door so often. This little powerhouse of a unit kicks on as soon as the cold air hits the floor and runs until the kitchen is warm again and it is only on the 2nd setting! There are 9 higher settings from which to choose. While it isn't completely silent in operation, it isn't loud either. A normal hum similar to a small fan on very low setting. My stove hood fan on "low" makes more noise than this unit as does a kettle of water almost reaching its boiling point. I like these so much, I'm back for a few more for my sister. Her 3rd floor apartment is in a historically-old multi-family dwelling with poor insulation. She is always cold, always catching colds and her heating bills are astronomical trying to keep the apartment warm. I think she's going to love these as well as I do as she can move them to any room she is in at the time without having to raise the heat in the entire apartment. Can't go wrong with these, esp. this price! Edit: Super Bowl Sunday, 2/7/10 - wanted to see if one of these would warm the entranceway as hubby's guests come in/out during the game today as we leave the beverages outside stuffed in the snow to keep them really, really cold. I didn't use an extension cord, but for the area I wanted to place the heater, I did try a surge suppressor. Several times. I say 'several times' because each time I turned the heater on, the circuit breakers for that entire side of the house triggered. So I thought to myself "Self, maybe it is this particular heater. Try one of the other 2 I have in other rooms..." Ok, so I thought it was a good idea at the time...but it wasn't. Each heater in succession triggered the circuit breakers. I guess the instructions meant what they said. Use this heater only directly connected to the actual outlet! Whew -glad I found this out BEFORE the game! I'd probably be relegated to the back yard and the dog house had I blown the circuit breakers during the game....:)

Works as advertised, is quick to warm up
Bought this space heater to use in a room about 12' x 15' feet I'd estimate. I've been running this guy since the end of January and it has kept the room nice and toasty. The unit is pretty compact, it's easily smaller than a gallon of milk, which is a metric I'd guess most people can visualize. The space heater has two dials, one allows you to choose your setting, and the other is a thermostat type setting. The setting options are: - Off - Fan - Low Heat - High Heat For my room, the low heat setting has been more than enough to keep the room warm. The high heat setting draws a lot of power, and I if I place the unit on high heat and have any other power cables for speakers, a computer, or whathaveyou plugged in to the same outlet, then the surge protector will usually have to spring into action to prevent the tripping the circuit breaker. This may be due to the age of my building and potentially the power restrictions for each circuit. Regardless, the low heat setting provides a steady stream of heat. The second dial is for the thermostat and has about 11 options. The thermostat setting basically will just turn the heater on for a bit, and then turn it off for a bit in an attempt to maintain a certain temperature. It is a relatively low-tech unit, so the thermostat options are not related to temperature values, so if you want to use it you'll have to just figure out what setting works best for you via trial and error. Personally, I just turn it all the way up, even when leaving the unit on for the night. Being a ceramic heater, for the first week or so of use, there was a distinct ceramic smell that was given off when the heater was turned on. It was not an overpowering smell at all, and it didn't bother me in the slightest, it is just something to be aware of. The unit has a fan, and so there is a bit of noise, but it really isn't very loud. I think that bit of fan noise is worth the benefit of having the fan blow the hot air from the ceramic out into the room. All in all, it is a very good product and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a small space heater.

Thermosat doesn't work well
I read the reviews, and chose to buy it. I'm using it in my home office, so that I don't have to heat the whole house all day, just to stay warm in my office with the door closed. Let me say that the heat output of this little thing is really surprising. I keep the house cool, like around 66 to 67 overnight because we sleep better when it's cool. If I turn the furnace on in the morning, it takes an hour or two to warm the house so that my office is at around 70. Since I got this little device, I start my work and turn on the heater, and the office is warm in about 20 to 30 minutes, without a problem. The fan makes some noise, but it's not really bothersome. I have had the thermostat set on about level 1.5 to 2 for over a week. When I turn it on, the temp in the room comes up to about 71 to 72. Through the day, the heater cycles on and off, as expected. However, the room gradually warms more and more. If I don't touch it, by mid afternoon, the office is up to a balmy 78, at which point if I don't turn it down, my family may find me soaked in sweat in my pajamas! I don't understand how it keeps getting warmer, and I've tried adjusting through the day to get to a stable temp, but it just doesn't do that. So, I have gotten into the habit of turning it off around 2 or 3pm, and letting the room gradually cool. For it's cost, this works great. I will have to wait a month or two to see if it actually does save on the heating bill, but I'm pretty sure that it will. The rest of the house remains cool, saving on heat during the day, and cooling at night. Plus, it was inexpensive. Otherwise, the quality seems good and I'm happy with the purchase.

Very good personal heater
This thing is powerful and quiet. I has temperature control and a saftey feature that shuts off when it hits a certain temp, which is great, but I wish it had the added safety feature of tip-over shut off like my previous heater. I live in Alaska and bought this to try and replace my ProFusion heater that I was borrowing from my sister. When she reclaimed it, I wanted another. However, I didn't immediately find it for sale so I tried this one after reading reviews. Honestly, this heater is everything it claims to be and is great. It's very quiet (more so than the ProFusion) and can put out a lot of heat. The airflow isn't as strong as the fan-based Profusion, though so if you're trying to get heat over a large area fast it'd probably be a bit slower. I've had no trouble with sparking or fires that other ceramic heaters have had, which was a big reason I went with this one over the other brands. The only problem I had, which is nothing against the product itself is that I use it very close to my body. I live in Alaska and it's pretty cold here most of the year. Rather than try and heat a whole room or house (which is expensive and hard to do) I like to put a personal sized heater next to me on the bed with the blanket tented over it (with ventilation not covered, of course). That way I get heat immediately and can warm myself up super fast. This thing puts out such high heat that even at lowest settings can scorch my skin when I do my thing. Since this isn't the way the heater was intended to be used and is no fault of it, I don't hold it against it at all. I'm just letting others know that if you're weird like me and use the heater in this way, it's too hot. Also, not having that tip over safety feature makes me worry. If I were to fall asleep and knock it over accidentally (which I've done before) then it's a worry to know it won't automatically shut off like the ProFusion would. This thing is great and does what it says it does well. I ended up finding the ProFusion and buying another, but will keep this heater for when I or someone else needs a heater to use in the normal way lol.

Very powerful little heater
I was skeptical when I ordered it. It's small and portable, and I watch the temperature in the room rise quickly. It's almost overkill in my bathroom, works great in my bedroom at a low setting. Experimenting with settings I've learned to maintain the temperature I like (in the beginning I was overheated). I remember to shut it off before unplugging and moving it, as that was in the product warnings. I've had a Lasko fan and was not impressed, but this item is surprising. I'm buying a second because I move it around a lot. For under $50 for 2 heaters, I don't see how spending $80 on a bigger one that I won't want to move around makes a lot of sense. I've been using it over a month, totally satisfied. Updating: I bought these in 2015 and still use them. They could be a fire hazard if you use them full power, and unattended. I don’t do that. I recommend a low setting, it will turn off when it satisfies the thermostat. There are few things I have that are still reliable and these save me money on heating. I don’t need the whole house heated to a comfortable temperature. So I have one of these in the bathroom and one in the living room to take the chill off. I’m careful to not leave them on. It's 2023, I bought 2 in 2015, they are STILL working well. I use in bathrooms and when I have a chill rather than turn up the heat. Space heaters require vigilance to be safe. I would not put it on a rug, for example. That being said, these are wonderful for my purposes. I would never have imagined an appliance that costs $30 to last so long, I’m very satisfied. This year, colder than usual, I’m using it more. I expect to buy another soon, as they definitely start retaining dust, one has started to have a slight burning odor if used longer than an hour on high.

Perfect Little Heater!
If you're someone like me who can't stand to be too hot, or too cold, this is the ideal heater for you. This nifty little heater packs quite a bunch, despite it's size and cost. It's user friendly, and all it takes (to go from hot to cold / or vice versa) is a turn of dial. It's small, compact, easy to carry (due to it's built in handle), and the cord can extend pretty far too! : Pro's : - Very simple interface - extremely user friendly. It has two dials. (Zero [Off], Fan, 1 [Heat], & 2 [Heat] // Second dial is the temperature control), how much easier can it get? - Ideal for small rooms (dorm rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms, offices, etc...) - Easy to move (has built in handle). - Light weight. - Cute design (has a very modern-esk appeal to it. It's not fancy, but it's not terribly plain either). - Has adjustable thermostat that goes from light heat/cool to VERY HOT heat/cool. - Minimal amount of noise (won't bother those who aren't light sleepers). - Durable. (I don't recommend throwing it around, but it has been dropped twice and I've had no problems) - Power down is quick and painless. Takes a few minutes to go from hot to "this thing was on?" cold. : Con's : - Heater has to be placed fairly close to you in order for the cold/heat to actually reach you. Depending on your hot/cold preferences, the normal/recommended length away from your body should be between a two to six feet. IF, on the heat setting, the heater is placed closer to user than two feet, it will be extremely uncomfortable and will most likely burn user(s) skin if left stationary. - For light sleepers/those who need silence while sleeping - this is a terrible product for you. The heater isn't loud, but it isn't quiet either. - Can get TOO hot. Over time, even the lowest of settings (heating only option) can get a little uncomfortable. You may have to adjust it periodically. - Between setting ONE and TWO (as listed on first dial), there is no noticeable differences between those two heat settings. : DO NOT : - DO NOT Place near/point directly at (and leave unattended) fabric furniture. Direct heat + fabric = not good! - DO NOT Place on a wood/glossy desk. Lasko Heater will move about due to vibrations and will most likely fall off if left unattended. : DO : - Keep the fan opening clean/dust free. Extremely quick and painless task and it can be done with a VERY damp wash cloth or paper towel. Turn off and unplug heater before cleaning fan. - Keep away from small children/babies. Heater can get too hot, and can be harmful to young children if the face of heater is touched. --- Overall, I'd give this heater a 9/10. : D

Heater good, carrying handle bad
The heater heats very well and works great. But, the handle I have an issue with. I have dropped the heater because the handle it poorly designed.
