"I will tell you how I grew up and how I was trained, about the great sages with whom I lived and what they taught me, not through lectures and books but through experiences."- Swami Rama Reading it, you will discover the human side to this yogic master. He is a young boy, full of mischief. He is a teenager, full of curiosity and adventurous zeal. He is a seeker, with certain strengths and weaknesses. Just like us, he sometimes fails to distinguish the fake gurus from genuine masters, mistaking magic for spiritual achievement. Living with the Himalayan Masters is one of those rare books that contains the seeds of transformation within its pagesโsowing those seeds in the heart of the reader, and creating the potential for true spiritual upliftment. These stories record Swami Ramaโs personal quest for truth and enlightenmentโinspiring, illuminating, entertaining, mystifying, and often droll and humorous. This life-changing book will bring you face-to-face with some great twentieth-century masters, including Mataji of Assam, a ninety-six-year-old sage who never slept; Gudari Baba, who taught Swami Rama the value of direct experience; Yogi Sri Aurobindo, who integrated meditation with action; Uria Baba, who demonstrated that every human being has the potential for healing; and Mahatma Gandhi. Read the humbling story of the man who founded the Himalayan Institute, and the great teachers who molded him into a Himalayan Master. Review: Excellent insights into spirituality - I liked the analytical appraisal it provided- a self aware writing of the memoirs of spiritual discovery within the Himalayan tradition - reflecting very realistically human doubts and cynicism or the obstacle of a skeptical mind. These revelations of the life of the great sages can at times can be somewhat phantasmagoric and difficult to take in nevertheless the experiences become believable, plausible and small glimmers of inspiration on what must truly be the fifth dimension of understanding and far from our ordinary lives. It provides the crumbs to want to know much more - a persuasive gift of insight! It is purely descriptive however, and there is minimal guidance on how to - in what might well be described as occult practices. For good reason these are not imparted. Thank you Swami Rama despite the good and the not so good that has been said of you! Review: Wow - Wow, absolutely loved this book. I resonated with all of the experiences he talked about and the sages he encountered and the way they view the world. I wasnโt expecting to love this book so much, but it was incredible. A must read for anyone interested in what lies beyond.

This book should be on the bookshelf of every spiritual aspirant. It is written by one of India's greatest Yogis, one who is revered by millions across the world. Yet, Swami Rama was always humble. He used to say "Swami Rama is very small; he is a nobody!" And when I would be in awe of spiritual powers, he would pay no attention. Yet, his eyes would say "You should not be in awe of the trivial. All these powers flow from control and training of the mind but do not represent true spiritual attainment." He was a true spiritual Master. One needs to read the book to see that. Through this book, Swamiji guides me with a steady hand as I face life's many challenges.

Worth a read for sure. Excellent first hand account
Overall the book is a great read it you want to experience about mysticism and get exposed to unknown side of Indian theological and religious account first hand. It's an excellent read narrating a boy's transcendence from normal life to a revered and visionary yogi and guru, including life stories of some other great souls who blessed Indian people during their visitation as humans. Condition of the book ordered was ss expected, although was more used than I imagined. Had someone's name written on the front page. And pages were turned yellow due to age, but what matters is the content.

Fascinating- better the second time around
Written in a simple first person narrative, it really is a collection of remembrances but illustrates a practical way to incorporate Yogic principles in everyday life. I liked that he was unsparing in recalling his own callow and egostic youth. Mind you after looking at the reviews on his biography, I read an article by Katherine Webster online and it sounds as if Swami Rama still had ego problems in his adult days! But this book is still good and I enjoyed it better after reading the said article as it sounds as if he did all the things he dismissed the other 'fake' swamis of doing. I rather got the feeling he might have kept on the Spiritual path had he stayed in India- indeed he warns that one has to be quite strong-willed and focussed to not get seduced by fame and fortune.

Spiritual Classics of all times
What can be said of this book ? Suffice to say that this is one of the greatest spiritual classic of all times delivered by swami Rama by the grace of his master ,eternal babaji of the Himalayas. It is true that the book speaks to each reader at the personal level and the reader may find the presence of Himalayan sages through its pages. This is a book which you may like to read again and again.swamiji has narrated his experiences and Events of his life of 45 years I.e.his life before He came to west. He tells us about ,how he was brought Up in the Himalayan caves, and how he was taught by the sages. The book is the record of some of these experiences.

Review by FisherRouletteSoftware.com
Hi, Johan here, with a short review of the book "Living With The Himalayan Masters". Although I haven't finished the book yet, I can definitely recommend it to anyone interested in spiritual matters. The book shows us what is possible if we attain that state of oneness with God. It is possible for anyone to become like that ! Through meditation and prayer ! And by thinking unlimited thoughts ! The book is written in a clear style, easy readable and also humorous. It has a considerable number of pages, which I like because you wish the book would never end. It has also some beautiful pictures in it which complement the beautiful scenes of the Himalaya and the temples etc. described in the book. If you like this book - and I do ! - you will surely also like the books "Life and teachings of the masters of the far east" by Baird Spalding and "Adventures of a western mystic" by Peter mt. Shasta. I think they are available via Amazon also. Greetings, Johan
