worthy addition to Avengers!
Bought this after playing on the Marvel Starter Pack for a few weeks. Was a little worried with redundancy since I read that this Spiderman Playset is based in the same city as the Avengers Playset, but I'm a Spidey fan and I had to have it. I love it! From the gameplay with Spidey to the missions, it feels like a very different game despite the setting being almost identical. You can even see Tony Stark's Avengers building (but can't quite get to it - out of bounds.) You hear J. Jonah Jameson spewing his biased news as you websling past The Daily Bugle building. It's easy to imagine an entirely different group of developers working on the SpiderMan Playset vs the Avengers Playset, and ya know what? The SpiderMan group wins, hands down. The missions aren't as boring or repetitive, the storyline is more interesting, you get your missions from a greater variety of characters, and the missions themselves are more varied in scope and setting (including frequent trips to the sewers, which Spidey even quips about, but I won't spoil.) Oh, and there is just no equal to playing as SpiderMan.... Webslinging with Spidey is really well done. The only disconnect is that you don't need anything for the web to attach to, i.e. you can websling across open space. But if you can suspend that little piece of reality, it is fun-fun-FUN!!! (It is a GAME after all.) There is definitely an art to getting the webslinging down just right and there's some challenges that help you get up to speed without it being a chore. In Spiderman's ability tree you can unlock "upgraded" webslinging, which lets him swing higher and faster. Well done here, it would have been harder to learn starting off at that level. Nice way to progressively step you into webbing around the city like a pro. So far as fighting, he is of the nimble, mono-et-mono type... somewhere inbetween IronMan and Black Widow. (In stark contrast with the likes of Hiro, whose kid-friendly "range attack" is riding a nonstop wave of nanobots that rolls over everything in its path.) Even his special attack (where he displays his trademarked upside-down-spidey-hang) affects only a small area. Spidey's ranged attack is weak compared to IronMan, but it quickly web-binds enemies for a few seconds buying you time to defeat them one by one. Spidey also gets a web-bolt attack which grabs and pulls enemies to him one by one from out of a crowd and, once upgraded, unleashes some wicked combos. The web-bolt also works in reverse; instead of pulling enemies to Spiderman, you can use it to pull Spidey to objects. This opens up a LOT of depth to his maneuverability if you learn to use it. And, maybe my favorite, you can unlock SPIDEY SENSE which tells you when he's being targeted for attack and improves blocking! Sweeeeeet. Crossover characters are IronMan and the Hulk, each unlocking more storyline and missions. Of course, you need to collect the 10 crossover coins for each character before you can plop them in. Unlike the Avengers Playset, each character's coins are all together, lined up for you in a path. Not sure how I feel about that, but alas, doesn't matter what I think. There's still plenty of those chests scattered around the city to find, and they can be plenty challenging to snag in mid-air, even after you think you're pretty good at webslinging. (I guess you could use Nova to get them, but that's cheating! hah ) Spidey will be harder for younger ones to use effectively, but more rewarding for those that put in the time to learn him. I think Nova is the character intended for the younger ones in the pack - right out of the box he can fly and is much simpler to control.

Easily a must-have if you are a Marvel fan looking to expand your Infinity collection.
This set is a great bang for your buck if you want even more Marvel superhero goodness out of Infinity 2.0. As with the Avengers set you're pretty much getting a full game. Whereas with Avengers you got a chunk of central Manhattan, Spider-Man puts you in lower Manhattan, and you can even see the Avengers tower if you go towards the edge of the map (although you can't actually travel to it). Like the Avengers set, it's a fun open-world superhero game with plenty of beat 'em up combat that will keep both adults and kids entertained, as well as some environmental puzzles and platforming challenges. Both kids and adults should enjoy it, and like Avengers it's great for co-op. You can also unlock Hulk and Iron Man as crossover characters with unique missions, though finding all the unlock tokens feels like it's more trouble than it's worth sometimes. Good luck finding that last Iron Man token. Of course, what I'm sure you're really interested in is Spider-Man himself. I'm pleased to say he controls very well. If you played Spider-Man 2 back in the day, you will be reminded of that game although the web slinging and wall crawling here are a fair bit more simplified. You press the jump button after a high jump to shoot a new web to swing from. Like the old 60's cartoon Spidey's webs are attaching to some invisible out of shot floating tile, however the actual swinging does feel like it has real weight and physics, which feels very satisfying and allows for some fun tricks. Spidey also has his zipline feature, although it feels a little bit unwieldy, and he can quickly fire his web shooters as a ranged attack that can glue enemies in place temporarily. The Spider-Man toy itself is very dynamic looking with a good quality sculpt, although Spider-Man's webbing doesn't really pop the way it does in the game and official renders because there are no paint apps for it. I ended up taking some Citadel Nuln Oil from my war gaming paints and going over all the webbing with a very fine brush, which really made the figurine pop the way I wanted it to, and it's now instantly recognizable as Spider-Man. If you have the skill and patience you might want to give this extra step a try, and if you mess up it's easy to reverse with some rubbing alcohol and a napkin. And that brings me to Nova. Ugh. Why oh why did they have to include a nobody like Nova as the second character? I get that Disney likes to include less popular characters in these two packs, and in terms of gameplay he packs plenty of punch (he basically plays like Iron Man but with unique animations), but there are many characters they could have included with this set who would have been plenty more recognizable, especially in relation to the Spider-Man franchise. Admittedly, I'm not the hugest Cosmic Marvel fan and it's hard for me to fairly judge this toy. I don't see myself ever putting him on display, so I'll probably end up just trading him in and buying Venom. Overall, if I'm rating fairly I give this set 5 stars. This is a good example of what a Disney Infinity set should be and I'm quite happy to have added it to my collection. If I was rating it purely as someone who likes Spider-Man and doesn't care so much about Nova, I'd give it 4 stars because I would rather have had a second hero I'm more familiar with (Daredevil anyone?), and also I would have liked to have seen some paint on Spidey's webs instead of having to do it myself. I guess you should think of this as a 4.5 star rating. This is easily a must-have if you are a Marvel fan looking to expand your Infinity collection.

A Must-Have
Spider-Man and Nova are very fun to play as in the playset! Of course, you are probably buying this because of Spider-Man. From time to time, he brags about himself during play. Web slinging is definitely what gets you addicted to him. What is weird is that you can sling through open air, but it's still fun despite that. It gets you across the city very quickly. Spidey is sort of a mix between Stitch and Mrs. Incredible, owing to the fact that he can Wall-Crawl and shoot web lines onto buildings to get him onto it quickly. You can upgrade him to shoot webs out of both hands. When you hold down x (Wii U controler), he swings a rock attached to a web line 'round and 'round, slapping nearby enemies until you release the button or he gets tired and throws the rock in whatever direction you are facing. His Special Move is not what I'd consider very helpful, though. Spider-Man jumps into the air and shoots his surrounding enemies with webs that freeze them for a few seconds, but this only affects a small area and does not stun them forever. Other than that, no complaint for him! I have noticed that nobody really seems to care about Nova, but he is also a fun addition to the pack. When he speaks, it sort of gives you the impression of an annoying teenager. Every time you block, dodge, or fly, this blue misty sort of energy surrounds him. When he is in the air, he is faster than the other flying characters. You can also upgrade him to shoot out of both hands. When you hold x (again, Wii U controler), Nova lifts average-size foes up into the air and he casts them away. When performing his Special Move, he casts a growing large blue sphere outwards. The Special Move can be upgraded to improve Nova's health. Don't underestimate him! The playset itself is very fun. The Daily Bugle tower is probably my favorite part of it. J. Jonah Jameson is heard on his broadcast complaining about Spider-Man and the other S.H.I.E.L.D. members every time you go by it. You can see the Avengers tower in the distance, but unfortunately it is unreachable due to boundaries. It is very similar to the Avengers playset because it's got similar buildings such as the bridges and Statue of Liberty. The bonus boxes are not hard to find, it's just a matter of actually reaching them. As for Crossover Coins (which allow you to use characters that are not necessarily part of the playset), they allow the Hulk and Iron Man into the game, and that comes in handy when all the characters you have that go in the set are defeated. The Crossover coins are all grouped together, so they are not hard to find, which I guess is okay. The missions are given by a variety of people, such as Black Cat, White Tiger, and some S.H.I.E.L.D. members, which make gameplay enjoyable. Here is a list of all the characters that work in the Spider-Man playset: * Spider-Man * Nova * Iron Man * Hulk * Venom * Iron Fist * Green Goblin * Nick Fury Well, I guess that wraps it up! Bottom line: A Must-Have.

A Fun, But Somewhat Shallow, Playset
I really enjoyed the first Disney Infinity game, and was excited to see that Marvel characters were going to be a part of the next game, especially Spider-Man. As a long-time Spider-Man fan, I was excited to get a new Spider-Man game and figure. The final product is both fun and underwhelming at the same time. Though the figures and in-game characters are great, the playset itself is rather disappointing. First, I want to talk about the figures themselves. The pack comes with Spider-Man and Nova (who most kids will know from the Disney XD series Ultimate Spider-Man). Both have nice paint details and their poses are quite dynamic. Though I would have appreciated painted webs on Spider-Man, his figure in particular is one of the best in the current line of Disney Infinity Marvel figures. I only wish that Nova had a yellow/gold helmet like he does in the show. I'm not opposed to his helmet being more comic-accurate, but the bluish-green color doesn't work as well on this figure. In the game, both characters are really fun to play as. The characters are more developed than they were in LEGO Marvel Superheroes, mostly thanks to the new skill tree. The skill tree is basically a selection of different upgrades you can purchase after leveling up your character. I really like this new addition because it helps make you feel like you really are the characters you play as. As a side note, one of my favorite parts about Spider-Man is that his web slinging is more like that of the 2004 Spider-Man 2 game. You really feel the gravity of each individual web line you shoot, which I think add an extra amount of depth to the game. The web slinging in this is much more realistic than the slinging in LEGO Marvel Superheroes. Unfortunately, the playset itself is rather underwhelming. Based on the show Ultimate Spider-Man, the story is about Spider-Man and his team (Nova and Iron Fist are playable, White Tiger and Power Man give you missions) trying to stop a symbiote attack on New York (similar to Web of Shadows). As cool as this sounds, this is merely a premise that sets you up for a few hours of fighting bad guys. Unlike some of Disney Infinity 1.0's playsets which boasted many different types of missions, this playset only features fighting missions. There are some puzzles at the beginning and end of the playset, but even these don't mix up the game enough to make it feel fresh. On top of that, some of the puzzles at the end were a little confusing. I'm seventeen and found some of them too vague. How much harder would a ten-year-old kid figure them out? There are good things about the playset, however. The voice acting in particular is a thing I really appreciate in this game. I like how (most) of the voices from Ultimate Spider-Man returned to voice their characters, such as Drake Bell and Greg Cipes. The only voice I don't like is White Tiger's. I don't know if the actress from the show returned or not, but whoever does the voice in the game is very wooden when it comes to her voice acting. I also like the fact that the world is much bigger than, say, the Incredibles city in the first game. Finally, I would like to say that, overall, I just like the fact that the TV series got its own game, even if the game is mostly disappointing. Though the playset itself was disappointing, the overall product is worth it. You still get two great figures and two really fun playable characters. I personally find more fun playing as Spider-Man in something like Assault on Asgard (an extra mini game that came with the Marvel version of the Starter Pack). I'm glad I got this pack, but I just want you to know that the story mode is rather bland. Otherwise, it's a great buy, especially for fans of the ol' webhead.

Great Concept and Fun for Kids. Money Pit Warning!!
My two boys really enjoy playing Disney INfinity. They are 9 & 6 yrs old. For those that are new to Disney INfinity, please understand that this play set is useless if you haven't purchased one of the starter packs that come with a base and game disc (and a few characters). It is the same concept as Skylanders if you are familiar. This play set is not game console specific, but the starter packs are. So this play set will work on any platform that you have purchased a starter pack for. If your child/ren really like this game, it will soon become a money pit as they will want you to purchase more characters, power discs, and toy boxes. I use these accessories as rewards for good school work, chores, and behavior. They get so excited to get a new character or power discs. I don't play the game, but I've watched my kids play and Nova looks like the funnest character to play. Spider-man looks pretty boring to me, but my oldest son is a fanatic so he always plays him. As of this writing, the following characters can be played in this play set: - Spider-man - Nova - Nick Fury (separate purchase) - Green Goblin (separate purchase) - Iron Fist (separate purchase) - Venom (separate purchase)

Kids will love it
It's a shame the Disney Infinity series shuttered their doors in 2016 without having reached its full potential. If there is a bright side to all of this, you can now purchase many of their sets and figures at roughly a fraction of their original price. I purchased this Guardians of the Galaxy playset along with The Avengers and Spider-Man versions and I must say that it is the weakest of the three in terms of gameplay. As usual with Infinity figures, Gamora and Star Lord look very nice and are handsomely detailed. However, the gameplay involved a lot of tedious platforming with a restrictive freedom of movement that got old quickly and paled in comparison to the free roaming structure of the Spider-Man and Avengers playsets. Still, the graphics were excellent with a wide color palate and offered unique environments that served as a refreshing alternative to the city scape of the other playsets offered in Disney Infinity 2.0. As an adult, I found this playset to be just okay in terms of its gameplay, however, I see no reason why a child wouldn't love it.

My son loves one of the characters
Bought this for my son who wanted Star lord. I don't think he's even played the other character, of course the one he wanted wasn't separate :) The only bad thing about these type of character gaming systems (Infinity and Skylanders) you end up spending a ton of money in additional characters and then they are all just THERE. Laying around taking up a bunch of space that normally was only the size of a game disc. I'd really rather they just offered a downloadable version of the characters and then I wouldn't have to worry about them getting broken or lost or someone borrowing them and not returning them. Just a little rant. Otherwise, my son loves the game and he takes the characters back and forth to his dads who has the Wii version, we have the PS3. So it is nice that they can be used on all systems.

Inutile !

Great for Guardians of the Galaxy Fans
Buy them before they're gone. Sadly Disney has abandoned the Infinity Gaming System. While not as expansive as other Sandbox Building games like Minecraft, the ability to use your favourite Disney characters is what makes this system so appealing. Both Starlord and Gamora characters are well made. The included game/level is also well designed.
