If you wire all of the panels in series, then I would say four panels... unless your charge controller can handle more than 100 volts.

What is recommended for a inverter reserve battery? The manual suggest this to not loose settings when turned off.

For my battery bank (BB), i have SLA /sealed lead acid batteries (all 12 @ 12v) and it works well with my solar kits. if you have $$, upgrade to AGM; if you have more $$ upgrade to LifePo4 (lithium ion). I have all three types, believe it or not. My appliances is plugged in to my 12v inverter pure sine wave; which is connected to my battery bank, 24/7. I don't shut or disconnect my BB unless i have to do maintenance or upgrade. **Never d/c your battery cables first before d/c your PV cables. Go green.

I’m not quite sure what what you mean by reserve battery .I have shut my inverter off many times and it has no settings when I turn it back on it just starts producing 120 V
