Excellent product, not the cheapest but works very well. The product does require a constant WiFi connection which we achieve through dedicated WiFi extenders that only the camera’s can access. The height needs to be high enough to deter would be grabbers as it is only held by magnet. Set up is very easy essentially. Ensure it is in range of router of extender and that you don’t have too many devices fighting for the router, as you will have connection issues. Use a extender if you have a lot of devices or it will drop a lot and lose connection. Same for indoor ones. We have 2 external and 2 internal and even use one as a baby monitor camera, combined with sound only and movement sensor. Excellent product!

After an initial issue Hive tech were on the ball and sorted it out within 2 days. Turned out to be a glitch in the App. Easy to fit. Easy to set up and good quality video streams. Tad on the dear side. But you have the backing of British Gas. So expect to pay a tad more. All in all satisfied with my purchase and would consider adding more if we needed too.

These cameras are ideal for our use. They are used remotely, but allow us to see who has called during the day or night when the property is unoccupied. They need to be placed high enough so that they can’t be removed by anyone, as they are only attached by a strong magnet to the base and could be easily removed. The person detection & the sound detection can be turned off, which is useful if people are staying in the property. We don’t want to be spying. The night vision isn’t great unless you’ve got security lights fitted, then it’s perfect. The picture quality is good & can be zoomed in. A still photo can be taken if necessary.

I was slightly dubious with the cameras. They are very easy to set up, however it can take a few goes to recognise the 'wifi'. We found after a day or so the camera was going offline quite a bit. We purchased a wifi extender and this did the trick. Picture quality is very good daytime and not too bad at night. I would definitely say that you will definitely need a wifi exteder with these, unless your router is situated in the room where the camera is postiioned outside. Other than that, i have been really impressed with the hive camera and additional hive products i have purchased.

I bought this camera as I am very satisfied with the Hive Thermostat so I thought the camera would be a useful addition. However, People detection is very slow to inform you when it does pick someone up close to our house (which it doesn’t always do). By the time you get notified the visitor can have gone before you can speak to them Often picks up unusual things as a person though I.e my wife’s car mirror and bonnet badge so you get spurious notifications during the night. Setting the camera to motion only picks up everything that moves so you get overwhelmed with notifications. I had to turn this off in the end. I have set notification zones up which is a waste of time as the camera often picks up people outside of the zones. To use the app to monitor what the camera has picked up I need to swipe it away and then restart it, again this takes time so the person at your door has gone before you can talk to them. In the app you can’t delete notifications in bulk only individually which takes a long time. Hive website worse than useless to give help. Have a look at reviews on the Hive forums, they all say the same thing with many disappointed customers. I can’t recommend this product and am currently looking for an alternative.

I read with interest all of the feedback but took the decision to proceed. I setup the device before I even considered fixing it anywhere and was able to complete this very easily and without any issues at all. I am a hive fan with lots of other products. I then deleceted the best place for the camera which is actually down the bottom of the garden looking back at the house. really pleased with the performance after setting it up for person detection only. very happy and will be buying two more covering both sides of the house

I bought one as I needed remote camera coverage. Thought the microphone feature and two-way chat might be useful. In actual fact these are mostly useless for that feature as the hive app and camera are so slow to connect and present an image a visitor such as a delivery person waiting for instructions would have given up and left! It can take 15-20 seconds to get a live view and chat. The detection is hit and miss I’ve had next doors cat identified as a person, a leaf on the drive, and a carrier bag blowing around also said to be a person! Meanwhile I had a delivery person make a delivery on the edge of detection area without being picked up. Further update ** Hive are disconnecting their camera service from august 2025. So a new camera will be an expensive white elephant stuck on the side of your house. This is exceptionally poor from Hive as people have bought the product in good faith to have one system eg one app for heating, camera, door sensors etc. To be honest the heating system isn’t perfect either by a long way - Ive had that go offline twice a year and face a lengthy time to get it running again - so maybe think carefully about what system you want.

Very easy to set up and connect to existing hive hub, good range of motion detection and picture quality. Bought for extra security and peace of mind and not been disappointed. Can link to existing lights so they come on in the home if motion is detected at night which I didn’t realise. Only downside is that I get constant notifications when someone walks along the front street due to the range but I’d be annoyed if I change that then needed to view the footage so I just ignore. Easy to access and view while away from the home. Overall very happy with product
