I want to use it for going to the gym. Is it big enough to hold clothes & shoes as well as wash bag & towels?

Yes it’s quite big. Using mine as carry on plane bag, got change of clothes, ipad and books in it - no problem.

Is it strong material to take on board

Yes it is very strong plenty of room and light to carry

How much weight can it carry? I am planning to put dumbells 16kg. Will the handles be able to carry this kind of weight?

I doubt it. The shoulder straps are very thin and the material is lightweight. I have never carried more than 4-5kg.

Can you wash it in a washing machine?

I wud say no it's classed as water resistant so a washing machine cycle wud affect this I've never washed my rucksacks just wipe with a damp cloth if needed
