Will a dewalt 779 work on here?

Yes it does. That is the saw I have mounted to the stand.

Can anyone tell me, what is the exact height (ground to top surface) of the miter saw mounting brackets ?

Yeah, I get about 29 inches when I measure . That is not really that high for a miter saw stand.

What size bolts do you need to mount a miter saw?

I have a Dewalt sliding compound miter saw. The bolts that come with the stand didn’t fit the bolt holes of my saw and vise versa. I figured out what size bolt the Dewalt saw holes were and also took the mount with me to make sure the bolt I chose was just small enough to fit both the saw holes and the mount slot. Use 2 washers. One between the bolt head and the mount and one between the nut and the saw. Put the bolt in upside down so you can hold the bolt head from the bottom to tighten the nut on the top. It needs to be just long enough to have a little bolt sticking up to put your Washer and nut on to tighten down. Mine has about a 1/2” of bolt sticking up past the nut.
