IntelliEar Plus- Rechargeable Personal Sound Amplifier

Best one I've had yet. I also have the Stealth, the Bell and Howell Silver Sonic, and the Loud and Clear. This Intelliear Plus rechargable reproduces voices with the least distortion of any of them. Also background noise is nonexistant.It will go about 12 hrs on a charge so its best to charge it every night while you are catching your ZZZZs.In my estimation it is the best performer of the lot.It comes with angled ear cones so it will lay closer to your face. Bell and Howell also has this feature. It might not be as pretty as the others but makes up for it in performance. The Stealth and the Loud and Clear both have more background noise and voices aren't as clearly defined.The Stealth I have is rechargable and also lasts about 12 hrs. The Loud and Clear uses hearing aid batteries size 312. The Bell and Howell has less background noise and is clearer than the Stealth or the Loud and Clear. It uses two button type batteries size AG13 not to be confused with the size 13 hearing aid battery which is smaller. It seems that the battery operated jobs need battery replacment about as often as the rechargables need recharging.So the battery ones could get expensive to operate if used regularly. I would recommend going the rechargable route. UPDATE 11-04-09 The instruction sheet claims a battery charge will last about 5 hours. I have found that to be true.I was so pleased with this unit I bought 2 more so when one goes dead it goes on the charger and another goes in the ear.

It's OK. Does charge up and the rechargeable battery has decent lasting power. But wearing it is not very comfortable. It doesn't balance well. It tends to droop forward. The wire that's supposed to hold it in place is too thin to keep its shape. I have a $25 Plantronics earpiece for my cell phone that has a perfect shape and fit. It never droops, it stays put in the ear, and has lasted forever. The Intelli-ear people should study how Plantronics designed its earpiece. On the plus side, it does amplify, and does have a working, and easy to adjust, volume control.

This device removes the most common problem with these lower cost units, i.e. background sound amplification. With the directional microphone of this product, the sound most amplified comes from what you are looking at. I did experience some problem with feedback noise (high pitched tone) when the amplification level was very high, but it went away when I finished putting the device on my ear and removed my hands. I find the amplification level to be very good, and I can hear MUCH better with this device. (I suffer from some hearing loss.) Now for the not so good. This device is not made to be out-of-sight. It is made to look like a Bluetooth ear piece, and it is very prominent on the face. Also, it does not stay close to the face easily. The wire that goes over the ear is easily bent, but it is soft metal (copper) and does not hold the device close to the face nor does it keep the ear piece into the ear well. The fact that the unit must be turned off in order to charge it is an inconvenience, but not a deal-killer. Finally, changing from right to left year is not easily done. So, the bottom line for me is that the unit works well, improves hearing without background noise, but it is prominent when worn and does not fit well. Because the good hearing amplification without background noise is the most important for me, I overlook the not-so-good features, and I gave it four stars.

I wasted $17.99 (the price is now higher) with this piece of junk. You can buy it yourself and find out. It doesn't work. Period. Here is the part that Amazon should not allow. If you are unhappy with this item, here is what the letter says (from Today's Housewares) that you can do about it. "Thank you for your purchase. Your business is appreciated. If for any reason you need to return the item(s) you purchased, please return the unopened/unused item to the following address....etc." UNOPENED and UNUSED! This product, folks, cannot be even tried to see how it works. You open it, it's yours. You use it, it's yours. This is the most disgusting product that Amazon allows on its website, but it is disgusting because once you buy it, you can't, in reality, return it, unless you are just into buying and returning things. Don't try it, don't use it, and for cryin' out loud, don't open it! Feeling like wasting $18? Buy this.

I thought it important to write a review on the sound device. I use different types of assists. I like the Radio Shack amplifier with earphones for a play. It is easy to control the level of sound in both ears and the amplifier can be put in your upper pocket or hung around your neck. I have not used this sound device yet for a play. I have about 5% in my right ear and about 40% in my left ear. When I use it in the bad right ear I do OK and it is helpful for table conversations without a lot of background interference. If I have a person on my bad side I can hear them at the table but should tilt a little toward them. Without it nothing. I always sit so that most people are to my left. It is good for tv to get a bit of stereo. It works well in my right ear for tv when with others who do not like the sound turned up. I bought 2 of them because it only lasts for about 5 hours and, if it is important, I need the replacement. It is necessary to run batteries of this type until failure. That way they will recharge better. I hope this helps.

This product is ok and it does amplify the sound but there is background noise and it slips out of my ear too easily. In order to get the best amplified sound quality, the piece that is inserted in the ear must be fitted firmly in the ear. If it slips out, you get the background noise. The ear piece may work better and not slip out so easily if were made of a different type of material that is not so slippery in the ear. Overall, this product is OK but it could be better.

This device doesn't amplify everything, it focuses on the higher frequencies. I'm wearing it as I type this and even with the volume lowered it sounds like I'm in a room with the world's noisiest keyboard rattling away in my ear. When listening to a TV show, say, it's only a bit better than nothing. I can turn it off and on and have little trouble understanding the audio either way. Please understand that when it comes to hearing loss, when you age the higher frequencies go first, so this device fills a need. But it is WAY too bright! Bright being an audio term for the higher frequencies. If you adjust the volume just below hiss, it's not bad. (It does hiss when turned way up, but the sound drowns out the hiss.) I'm listening to an Animusic disc as I write this and the sound ain't half bad. Maybe a combinationn of the amplified high end in one ear and my other ear registering the bass. Dunno. I'm hearing lower frequencies in the unamplified side of my skull. Still, typing is creating the most annoying clacking noise. I bought this to use at the theater. My hearing, like my vision, is fine for most normal situations, which is why I don't wear glasses or a hearing aid, but plays and such elude me because I can't hear all that well when seated several yards from the speaker, but I'm going to a show Sunday and I'll wear this device. Will update. Update: Almost worthless. It took several minutes to put the darn thing on, monkeying around with the wire ear loop and such. It doesn't just clip on your ear, you have to mess with the wire, which is WAY too flexible. The wire makes it infinitely adjustable, which makes it infinitely annoying trying to get it positioned correctly. Once in place, the microphoone points DOWN. Great if you want to amplify your neighbor's applause, but worthless in a crowded room. Bottom line: I have a moderate hearing loss and yet I can hear about as well with or without this device. It's a waste.

It works fine, the sound is not the best but it's OK... but it is true the the battery doesn't last a long time.
