This is THE BEST of the best albums I've ever had the pleasure of purchasing and listening to. Besides the fact that the beats and lyrics of pretty much every song on this album doesn't resemble the 1D from the past (I love that they're experimenting and trying new things), it's also quite evident that they put their entire heart and soul into this album and worked extremely hard on it so their fans could receive the absolute best... And that, they did. After all, it rarely ever happens that the moment I hear a new song, I fall immediately in love with it without any hesitation. And, even less than that, does it occur that I adore EVERY SINGLE SONG any one album has to offer... More than necessary do I find myself skipping songs I don't find any connection to or likeness for, but, with Four, I listen to every song until the end without being forced to; I do it because I want to and because I LOVE the songs. So, thank you, 1D, for creating an album I truly appreciate and enjoy. One that has found me in a state of pure bliss, as a result of its songs' components. I'll listen to this album for more than an eternity, and I suggest you do the same. I can't guarantee you'll feel the same things I feel, when listing to these wonders, but what I DO guarantee is that at least ONE of these songs will have you smiling, listening to it on repeat, and not even regretting the fact that it's impossible to get out of your head.

I have been a 1D fan since I heard "Live While We're Young" on the radio. I have enjoyed watching them grow over the years not just physically, but through their music. As my review of their last album, Midnight Memories states, I enjoy the edgier, more adult sounding 1D. Not many boy bands can evolve past the cheesy bubblegum pop stage...but One Direction has. This album, picks up where MM left off with a more mature sound...more rock and folk influences. 15 of the 16 tracks were written by the band, the exception being "18" which was written by the incomparable Ed Sheeran. As with the previous albums, I was hooked after one listen. I've had this album for 4 months now and I have just now chosen a favorite song. Usually after one listen of an album, I find one song I really like and stick with it...but with this album, it was so hard to choose a favorite; they're all so good! Night Changes is the best, though, at least in my opinion. I can easily say that this is the best One Direction album yet. After finishing this album, I was so excited to read online that the lads were already working on their next album. But with Zayn's recent departure, I am kind of holding onto the albums we have so far. I am glad that he stayed through this album, it would not have been the same without him. It has been an amazing 5 years since 1D was formed, and after 4 amazing albums, they're still going strong.

If I thought Midnight Memories was a great album, then Four has blown my mind entirely! These 5 amazing young men have worked so hard and matured so much musically and it shows on this album. They are now more involved than ever with the song writing and I respect that they are changing the game and breaking the mold for boy groups. They have left that stereo type of boy band bubble gum pop and have created a masterpiece of wonderful songs that would appeal to any adult who loves great music. I am an older fan, over my 30's to be exact but I have no shame in admitting that I love this group and their music. I have seen them in concert on several occasions and you can see the passion when they perform. This is their love and it's not just a job or requirement. I do not have a favorite song because ALL the songs are simply magnificent on this album and I sincerely hope that people will give them a chance and listen to this. It is easily one of the best albums of this year. These young men should be so proud of all their hard work on this album. When it comes to raising the bar they never disappoint and they have come a long way from Up All Night.

Nach fast einem Jahr ist es nun endlich soweit: Das neue, mittlerweile vierte Album von One Direction ist da! Es trägt den schlichten Titel „Four“ und beinhaltet in der Deluxe Edition 16 Tracks. Natürlich habe ich mir auch dieses Album wieder vorbestellt, um es am Erscheinungstag zu erhalten. Die CD ist wieder wie ein Buch aufgebaut mit vielen Bildern. Leider sind die Songtexte nicht enthalten. Nun zur Bewertung der Einzeltracks. Erneut haben die fünf Bandmitglieder bei fast jedem Song mitgeschrieben. 1. Steal my girl 5/5 Bei der ersten Single des Albums haben Liam und Louis mitgeschrieben. Der Song geht sofort ins Ohr und ist etwas ganz Anderes als die bisherigen Singles. Die Strophen sind sehr R’n’B-lastig, der Refrain gewohnt poppig. Ein richtiges Meisterstück, bei dem Zayn in den Adlibs seine fantastische Stimme zeigt! 2. Ready to run 5/5 Auch hier haben Liam und Louis mitgeschrieben, der Song ist besonders im Refrain richtig gut. Ein tolles Stück! Die Melodie am Anfang erinnert ziemlich an „Story of my life“, jedoch ist das Lied dann doch ganz anders. In der dritten Strophe gibt Zayn noch mal alles. 3. Where do broken hearts go 5/5 Nicht umsonst einer der Lieblingssongs der fünf Jungs. Für Zayn ist es sogar der beste Song, den One Direction jemals aufgenommen haben! Harry hat mitgeschrieben und das Lied ist wirklich einmalig! Hoffentlich wird das die dritte Single! Das Lied kann man sich auch sehr gut live vorstellen. Eines der absoluten Highlights auf der CD! 4. 18 5/5 Dieses Lied hat Ed Sheeran für One Direction geschrieben. Erwartungsgemäß handelt es sich dabei um eine Ballade. Die singen die Jungs bekanntlich besonders schön, und „18“ bildet da keine Ausnahme. Hier kann man hören, dass wirklich alle fünf Jungs eine super Stimme haben! Einfach toll! 5. Girl almighty 5/5 Auch bei „Girl almighty“ hat die Band selbst nicht mitgeschrieben. Es handelt sich um einen Song, der etwas Country-/Cowboy-Artiges an sich hat und dadurch ein ganz spezielles Flair hat. Die Jungs probieren neue Stile aus und das macht das Album besonders abwechslungsreich. Das Lied macht richtig Spaß und man muss sich einfach dazu mitbewegen. 6. Fool’s gold 5/5 Eines der Herzstücke auf dem Album und zudem einer der drei Songs, den alle fünf Jungs mitgeschrieben haben. Eine superschöne Ballade, bei der die fünf Sänger ihre Gefühle zeigen und auch, dass sie tolle Stimmen haben. Besonders schön ist der Refrain, in dem die Jungs auch ihre Kopfstimmen benutzen. Die Balladen sind wirklich immer besonders schön! 7. Night changes 5/5 Die zweite Single auf dem Album muss man einfach schon nach dem ersten Hören lieben. Auch diese Ballade haben alle Jungs mitgeschrieben, der Text ist wunderschön und die Melodie geht sofort ins Ohr. Einer der besten Songs, den One Direction je hatten! Der Refrain ist unglaublich gut! Das „Uhuhuh“ nach dem zweiten Refrain passt total gut dazu, der Song hat einen leicht weihnachtlichen Touch. Er ist einfach perfekt! 8. No control 5/5 Bei diesem Lied hat Louis mitgeschrieben. Nach den beiden Balladen handelt es sich jetzt wieder um einen schnelleren Song, dessen Melodie sofort in die Beine und in die Ohren geht. Der Refrain macht richtig Party-Stimmung, der Text passt sehr gut dazu. 9. Fireproof 5/5 Dieses Lied ist das, was man schon am längsten kennt. Mitgeschrieben haben Liam und Louis, es handelt sich um eine Mischung aus Ballade und Mid-Tempo-Song. Einfach toll, ein echter Ohrwurm! Im Refrain singt Liam mit Kopfstimme, was immer richtig gut klingt. Nialls Strophe ist eines der Highlights bei diesem Song, aber insgesamt ist auch hier alles toll! 10. Spaces 5/5 Die beiden fleißigsten Songschreiber Liam und Louis hatten auch hier wieder ihre Finger im Spiel. Auch dieser Song ist eher ruhig, der Refrain geht richtig ans Herz und ist voller Emotionen gesungen. Ein richtig tolles Stück! 11. Stockholm Syndrome 5/5 Bei diesem Lied hat Harry mitgeschrieben. Ab dem ersten Refrain hat der Song einige Electro-Einflüsse, die ihn zu etwas Besonderem machen. Toll! In der dritten Strophe benutzt Liam wieder seine Kopfstimme. Ein ganz ungewohntes Lied für die Jungs, aber dafür umso besser! 12. Clouds 5/5 Ein weiterer Song, an dem Liam und Louis mitgewirkt haben. Auch Zayn hat mitgeschrieben. Bei „Clouds“ handelt es sich um den letzten Track auf der normalen Version des Albums. Auch dieses Lied ist ein Up-Tempo-Song, der Refrain lässt Party-Stimmung aufkommen. Der Song geht richtig ab! 13. Change your ticket 5/5 Der erste Bonus-Song und der dritte Song, an dem alle fünf Jungs beteiligt waren. Hier handelt es sich um einen schönen Pop-Song, der sehr viel Spaß macht. 14. Illusion 5/5 Dieser Song, den Liam mitgeschrieben hat, handelt von Liams Freundin Sophia. Das Intro erinnert irgendwie an Songs aus den 80ern. Ein weiteres Highlight auf dem Album! Der Refrain ist richtig toll und geht sofort ins Ohr. Super! 15. Once in a lifetime 5/5 Bei diesem Lied hat keines der Bandmitglieder mitgeschrieben. Dies ist die letzte Ballade auf dem Album, die vor allem von den schönen Stimmen der Jungs getragen wird. Leider ist er ein wenig zu kurz, aber trotzdem ist es ein toller Song! 16. Act my age 5/5 Auch bei diesem Song haben die Jungs nicht selber mitgeschrieben. Hier muss man unwillkürlich an Piraten denken, der Abschluss des Albums ist wirklich gelungen. Der letzte Track macht sehr viel Spaß! Hier haben die Jungs keine richtigen Solos, sie singen so gut wie alles zusammen. Insgesamt kann ich dieses Album nur uneingeschränkt empfehlen, jeder einzelne Song ist super und insgesamt ist das Album wieder richtig toll geworden. Man merkt, wie viel Mühe sich die Jungs gegeben haben!
