Wondering if this mount could support a willam optics z61, dslr camera and finder scope?

It is rated for 11 pounds. So add up the total weight of your equipment and you can answer the question yourself. Also keep in mind that this is an alt/az mount so you won't want to be doing any long exposures. Mine carries my 127 mm MAK plous finder plus red dot finder easily - but I only do visual. Great little grab n go mount.

Do i need to purchase anything extra to mount a camera with a standard tripod mount attached? i have a nikon p1000 camera and an opteka zoom lens?

Probably. The mount is for a telescope slide mount. When I view the mount there is a $15 adaptor in the related items which goes from the slide mount to a standard tripod screw.

You need select a northern star

You canuse 1, 2 or 3 star alignment. Doe not have to be the northern star, can be any stars listed in the application list.
