I have worked in warehouses for almost six years. Every day, I make between two dozen and two hundred cuts on cardboard boxes, zip ties, thick bands, and plastic straps. This CAT is hands down the best box cutter I've ever owned. The ergonomic design of the handle lock and grip are comfortable; I can cut a lot of cardboard without my wrist becoming sore, and I can press down hard on tough bands without pinching my wrist joint. The red lock toggles smoothly despite constant exposure to dirt, mud, and sawdust. Changing blades is easy, and there are no knobs or weird screws that loosen and fall off (like my previous box cutter). My employer loves Uline box cutters, but I paid out of pocket for this CAT and don't regret it. It is light, the blade hold remains snug despite months of daily use, and the silicone grip design stays firm in my hand even during the hot, sweaty summer months. CAT hit a home run with this box cutter. For my medium-sized hands, this is great. Large and XL hands might find it a little small (like your pinky finger won't fit on the grip, but slides off to the side).

This is the best utility knife I've ever used! The retracting blade just makes it so easy. I immediately bought more as stocking stuffers and we used them constantly on Christmas morning. You do have to pay attention to how you're holding it, but I'm cautious enough for that to not be much of an issue for me (famous last words...)

This box cutter is very simple to use. You simply squeeze the handle and the cutter blade pops out, let go of the handle and it pops back in. Very safe! Also, there is a lock on the side. you can lock it and there’s no way the blade will pop out then.

I'm a homeowner. I don't work in a trade. There are two tools I need so often that I carry them with me at all times: a tape measure, and this knife. I used to use a standard issue utility knife with a long hollow handle made in two parts that screw together. It worked fine until I realized that the long handle was exerting so much pressure on the interior of my pocket that it was wearing holes in my pants. I replaced it with a knife much like this one, which I loved until the time I reached into my pocket and felt... blades. The pocket's fabric had depressed the button that opened the knife's spare blade holder and spilled the blades into my pocket. I was lucky; no injuries. But at that moment the knife became history. This one is designed so that I need a prying tool to open the blade carrier. No way it's going to open in my pocket. Also it's easy to pull the knife out, turn it right side up and front forward, and extend the blade with one hand. Complaints? After a few weeks of carrying it around, I find that the black paint is wearing off in spots. I don't really care, it's not a fashion accessory. I wish there were intermediate settings between "fully retracted" and "fully extended." When I open boxes I have to be careful to hold the knife at a shallow angle so I won't slice through the contents. I'm willing to live with those things to keep my pants and my fingers safe. One caution: the retracted blade is shallowly enough retracted, and the enclosing space is wide enough, that it's possible to poke a finger in and prick it on the tip of the blade. You need fairly small fingers to accomplish this, and you need to press pretty firmly, but it can happen by accident. I did it a few days ago while trying to fish the knife out of a narrow pocket. I wasn't badly hurt, but there was blood. Be careful.

Good quality product

You just cant go wrong with this!! I purchased it as I was tied of trying to deal with the older model I had with locking blade. My wife was wary on the `retractable' but once I put this in her hand she was sold. The action is smooth, the lock works if you need to keep the blade out, and it's way safer than just having an open box cutter laying around while you're working. I would say I'd prefer a pointy blade on this (there seems to be a touch of rounding on the tip) but that is so minimal an issue that it doesn't even cost a star. If you're looking at this review, just stop already and go ahead and order this. You won't be disappointed.

If you never even entertained the wild notion that a box cutter could be fun and entertaining, this little item could change your mind. It is very compact and easy to store or carry. The blade it comes with is very sharp and is a bit safer than the pointy ones. There's a good chance you'll see this as enough of an upgrade in engineering, that you want to give it as a gift for "whatever" occasion.

Holds blades better than all my other utility knives. Never have had one come loose during a tough cut. Quick squeeze retractable blade is easier to use than button slides too. My favorite blade.

Excelente cutter

This is great. Love it. My go to knife for DIY. You can lock the blade in our out, and the squeeze mechanism keeps sharp bits safe until you need them. Customs did sit on it for a bit. I didn't really think about that before ordering. The pop out blade could, I suppose, be a worry. But it came through after about a week, so all good. Has a spare blades holder and uses standard blades, not those terrible snap off things that are an eye injury waiting to happen.
