How does this compare to Presto's 2 stage electric sharpener?

The 3-stage sharpener has an adjustment for the thickness(thin, medium, wide) of the blade to be sharpened which allows for better positioning of the knife blade to the sharpening wheel. The 2-stage sharpener does not have this feature.

At what angle does this unit sharpen?

Accepted Answer

The angle is adjustable to three different positions but the exact angle is difficult to measure without an optical comparator.  Lowest angle is for thin knives like a fillet, and the highest angle is for things like cleavers.  However, there is nothing to prevent you from sharpening a cleaver to the angle normally used for a fillet knife.  I work in the medical device industry where we sharpen surgical needles.  I inspected the sharpened edge using a 10x eye loupe, and the results are fantastic.  A little bit of micro serrations on the edge creates a very sharp cutting surface.  I have sharpened knives for many friends and they were all amazed at the quality and sharpness of their knives.Update: After 2 years of use, it is still going strong and one of my favorite tools. Very easy to use once you get the "smooth pulling the knife towards you" technique down.

Will this work on a large bread knife with long serrations?

i beg to  differ  on  using  the  pesto 08810  to  sharpen  serrated  knives  .... the  only way to  sharpen a serrated   knife  long  or short  is  by   using a round rat tail  sharpening tool  then  each serration   must  be sharpened  individually .... by  turning the  knife sideways (bevels  showing  directed away from  you ) placing the  small  end  on the  tail  in the  bevel  and pushing   gently  through each  serration bevel ....  its a  timely  process  but  its  the  really  only  way
