Review: Perfect cross between hiker and cross trainer - Very comfortable with excellent arch support right out of the box. Very lightweight and stylish as well. I was looking for a cross between a tennis shoe and a hiker and for the perfect single shoe to take on our vacation and this fits the bill! Quality is as expected with Merrill, very well made. I have worn them for two days straight and didn’t need any break-in time. Typically new shoes will hurt your feet until broken in, but these didn’t. The soles are very grippy and the breathable waterproof design keeps my feet comfortable all day. 10/10 would recommend. Sizing is true to size. I wear women’s 8.5 and that is what ordered. Review: Read 2nd half for important info - Have had the "Vapor" color since 2019, its now 2024. These are the BEST SHOES I've ever had in my life and i hate wearing shoes, i would rather be in flipflops all day but going out and doing any kind of hike or long term walking(or just everyday wear really) these protect your feet, have great grip, lightweight, fast drying, breathable, fit like a glove for me and have the right amount of cushion. They are my absolute all time favorite. You can go ANYWHERE and do ANYTHING in these bad boys. I have travelled to Belize & Costa Rica and these shoes are beat to all heck but there is still no rips or damage, they are just dirty & look beat up. These babies even took me through a cave tour submerged in waist deep/neck deep water for SIX hours and after coming out of the cave? They felt dry enough within 30 min-1 hour. Even with soaking wet shoes i got no blisters or rubbing. Second part. Obviously loving these shoes so much i wanted to get another pair. I got "black/adventurine" color and wore them every day outside at work all summer long. June-sept 2024. When first trying them on they felt kinda stiff, especially the back heel. I thought they would "break in" but still they feel a bit stiff whereas my original pair were flexible from the start. Now the BIG ISSUE. After wearing the new pair for a couple of hours my pinky toe would start to ache/hurt/rub. I just dealt with it all summer and it was too late to return them. So i do not know if the shoe is defective, was a bad cut, or possibly some kind of knockoff? I got both pairs from this same listing & same size. Going to order a different color and hope the next ones will be just as good as the original.

Fantastic Shoes!!!
I earn my keep by being in the outdoors most of the time, and I "hike" rivers like other people hike mountains - not on the banks, but by going straight up the middle. This means that my shoes are in the water for hours/miles at a time, and are subjected to a constant barrage of mud, rocks, sticks, and other debris. In the month of July, I literally destroyed three new pairs of what one would call the classic "water shoes" - the little slip-on things with mesh uppers and rubber soles. This is not new - I have gone through countless pairs. I was logged in on Amazon, doing a search for yet another pair this week when this pair of Merrell's popped up in the suggestions. I just about fell out of the chair when I saw the price, but after a quick calculation, I realized I was spending at least this much in disposable water shoes over the course of every summer, so I gave it some serious consideration. My feet are fairly wide, and as a result, I normally shy away from women's shoes and buy boys instead. However, I noticed that one of the other reviewers mentioned that these had a pretty wide toe box, so I decided to take the chance and order them. My UPS guy delivered them as I was loading my kayak on the truck yesterday evening - couldn't have been better timing - I was headed up river a few miles, taking the kayak along to tow my stuff, and I was prepared to go barefoot, which works, but sometimes results in a bruise or two. I pulled them out of the box and was impressed with the design - sturdy, but lightweight. I then put them on and was equally impressed wit the arch support (I have high arches - it felt really nice). Then I walked across the floor, and much to my delight, I could feel the air moving through the mesh, cooling my feet. So far so good - it was time to head to the river. Upon entering the water, the shoes (of course) immediately filled with water, but very little sand/gravel. As I made my way up river, I was amazed - a lot of the rocks are slick with moss and sediment, but I didn't slip. And not a single "OUCH!" as I made my way through fast water where I couldn't see the bottom - normally this means coming down hard on a rock at least once, and although I'm sure I did, I never felt the first twinge of discomfort. Slogging through sandy areas resulted in a small amount of sediment in the shoes, but not enough to be uncomfortable. Upon my return back down river, I took the shoes off to rinse them out. That was easy - they didn't capture and hold on to sand/gravel like the other ones did that I had been wearing. I also noticed that they float - an added bonus should one get away from me. I inspected them carefully for signs of destruction - normally after only one trip, the cheaper ones will show cracking on the bottom and at least a few tears/loose threads. Nothing was wrong with these - nada. I put them back on and climbed the muddy hill to the truck - they had great traction there, as well. All in all, I am EXTREMELY pleased with this purchase. The shoes not only perform exactly as I needed them to in the water, but they are actually REALLY comfortable. We still have a fair amount of summer left here in Virginia, and I will be putting them through their paces for quite a while longer. I will update my review toward the end of the season. I paid full price for these shoes and did NOT get them at reduced cost or for free in return for a review. :)

These are good, but…
I love the look and feel of these Merrells. They are comfortable. My only concern is since I have plantar fasciitis that after walking thousands of steps a day in these, that it might flare up. So far my longest walk has been about 8,000 steps a day. My feet were fine. The shoe has excellent arch support. I did put a thin heel guard in them because I thought it might help. The shoes are “close to the ground”, you can feel that when you wear them. But they have been completely comfortable so far. And they worked great walking on wet cobblestones in Europe. No slipping!

Comfortable Out of the Box
UPDATE: Wanted Khaki as second pair and SO HAPPY that the color received was consistent with the small thumbnail image. The larger image had black (which was OK, but not exactly what I wanted). Posting picture to see what was received when ordering Khaki. These too are excellent…right out of the box. I’ve been looking to replace an older pair of Merrill shoes with Vibram soles and finally found it. Lightweight, great room in the toe area and super comfortable. They are advertised as water shoes but great for daily walking use. Great support and stability. Color is great (black with light aqua trim). The laces could be a little longer (I like to double tie my laces to avoid tripping on an untied shoe) but after wearing them for a few days, they haven’t come untied at all as the laces have decent grip and hold. Ordered another pair in a different color. Highly recommend.

Perfect choice for water-based active sports and activities
I got these for some outdoor travel activities including waterfall rappelling, and they were PERFECT. They offer the comfort, protection, and structure of a hiking sneaker while still allowing for water flow through the mesh. They don't exactly dry super quickly (I was in humid Iguazu Falls and it took a couple of days of leaving them out), but I was much more comfortable than some other people in my group who were wearing normal sneakers that got soaked and squishy. I wear between a 7.5 and 8 and ordered these in an 8, and they fit perfectly out of the box - didn't even really need any breaking in, they're just comfortable. Also, the parachute purple color is great looking and looks the same as the photos - moreso the first photo on Amazon that's more vibrant than the second. I'll echo what others have said about the almost absurdly short laces - I was able to tie a double knotted bow, but barely. I might end up buying separate laces, but at the moment they're fine... just way shorter than a typical sneaker. I'm going to ATM Cave in Belize in a few months, which involves a lot of walking through deep water, and I think these will be perfect for that - look forward to trying them out there! (I will edit this review if my thoughts change after that.) Just remember that they're mesh with no lining! I also wore them hang gliding in Rio, and when we landed on the beach they immediately filled with sand haha. Great for water activities for sure, but they're very porous!

Great hiking shoe! I bought a 2nd pair 🥰
I LOVE these shoes! I wore them hiking on a 3 week trip to National parks in NM, CO, UT, and AZ. Day after day of hiking they were very comfortable, provided good traction on trails (rock and loose sediments), and were cool enough on a hot day. Around town, they are my go-to nice weather shoe. I just bought a second pair today because they are fantastic! I usually wear an 8, but found the 8.5 was better and a true 39. I wear them with hiking socks on the trail, thinner socks around town, and barefoot if in the water. The shoe is a good fit in each case. (Photos are from Willow Springs Dinosaur trackway just north of Moab UT and Arches NP)

Check your measurements for sizing
I ordered 2 of theses (one for my daughter and one for myself) and ordered the half size up from the measurements provided. The measurements provided for sizing was iffy (mine were a perfect fit while we had to send my daughter's back and get a size up from what the measurements suggested even though we measured several times). I measured 24 cm and ordered a 7.5 while my daughter has 24.5 cm, the 8 had to be returned but the 9 fits her. We ordered the men's version as well for my husband and the fit was perfect so I'm not sure if it's that she is still a child with growing feet or what (she has outgrown my feet and is not even in high school yet!). Either way the return was easy and quick and her new size came in a few days later. We've worn these shoes on a few local hiking trips and have had no problems (two weekends for my husband and me and one weekend for my daughter)! Walking through creeks, hilly terrain, fields, etc. and they have held up and been rather comfortable (no blisters or achy feet, shins, calves, etc.). Have not noticed a smell with wet hikes and though they take a little time to dry it's not a problem (just put them back on for the next water hike). Fit fine with or without socks depending on what you are doing but without socks we noticed our feet started to sweat after a few minutes of hiking but that just makes the creeks and springs that much more refreshing once we find them (again, still no funky smell). Worth the money for all the hikes we do and can't wait to use them for our Black Hills camping trip this summer! The only thing I have to get used to is the arch. My husband and daughter don't notice it at all but due to a pinch nerve on one foot I tend to walk on the insides of my feet. Walking on concrete, in stores, etc. do cause my arch to feel bruised in these but walking through mother nature and I hardly notice it. These do cause my nerve to flare up when driving but most (if not all) shoes do unfortunately so I tend to have to unlace the top hole or two to prevent that issue (release pressure from the nerve?) or take off the shoe while driving (right foot so of course I need to use it to drive). Great shoe and will buy again when needed!

Satisfied customer
Exactly the kind of light hiking shoe I was looking for. I live in a humid and hot climate and I find most shoes on the market are Gore-Tex. Not ideal unless you like your feet feeling like they're submerged in a warm swamp. These shoes let your feet breathe and have a more natural wide toe box to ensure comfort. So far so good.

gran producto
Son zapatillas muy cómodas y fresquitas. Ideales para los meses de calor. La suela es espectacularmente cómoda, como siempre con vibram. Cumplen a la perfección y se adaptan perfecto. Ademas son muy bonitas.

Fantastic but not waterproof
I love these shoes and they are serving me well in terms of comfort. I walk around 70 miles each week and these are my preferred footwear when walking on dry trails. The vibram sole protects when walking on gravel or rough stones. They are very grippy on dry rock. Not waterproof though due to the mesh panels being unlined. Didn't realise this until I received them so be warned as it states 'waterproof' in the description. Overall though a great shoe that is holding up well to heavy use.
