Although it’s a little hard to start it’s an amazing product it works great with 70 percent isopropyl alcohol they recommend 90 percent which is probably why it’s hard to start it runs for a good while before you have to stop and let it cool down it’s very well made and sturdy it’s had very good stability I’m even when vibrations move it around it doesn’t tip over it’s well worth the money

I have reviewed other Stirling Engines and have had issues with them working as advertised, but this one works great, and the kids love it. Especially as it powers a small generator powering a LED multi-colored light. The manufacturer gives an extra heat bulb with the kit just in case the original breaks, which is nice, but I don't think is necessary as long as you are careful. The manufacturer stats to use alcohol for the burner which works well. If alcohol is used then use 91 to 99% so that it will burn fast/evaporate quickly. I have not tried lamp oil yet, but it may be a good as well as a safe alternative. Please check with others with the same engine before attempting to alter what the manufacturer recommends. PROS; This Engine is beautiful to look at (even without it running). It is well designed, polished (no kidding, it is shiny) :). It is Mechanically sound. (very quiet) Fun to watch working. A great teaching tool for young engineering minds. CONS: ABSOLUTELY NOT FOR CHILDREN ("DANGER" Will Robinson "DANGER") High heat issues/FIRE (watch over carefully)

The Motor works great, however, it didn't come with a spare bulb as stated. I expect to put a KIT together. This was fully assembled, and all you have to do is figure out how to get the wick in. How do I get the bulb replaced, and order additional bulbs.

Great product, some quick do's and don'ts. Don't lubricate it, one drop of oil where the piston connecting rod attaches to the flywheel on each side is sufficient and needs no lubrication elsewhere. The alcohol burner is too small, Sunnytech sells a much better unit for 10 bucks, it's shorter and wider with a much thicker wick. It's a two cylinder engine, get used to it vibrating, that can't be helped. I bought a cheap set of three bamboo cutting boards and attached the engine to that, The cutting boards are just too heavy to be affected by the engine vibration. The alcohol burner, I suggest a small metal plate be attached, (there is a full video attached) so that you can toss a neodymium magnet into the burner, which keeps the burner from wandering around and allows you more precise control of the flame, the magnet in the burner locks it to the metal plate while running. Fuel, isopropyl alcohol only, and the very least potency should be 91%, which can be purchased anywhere. 70% just doesn't cut it. A room temperature engine should take roughly 15 to 20 seconds to get started, (see video) The alcohol burner does not work well with a breeze, set it in an area with still air movement. Ambient temperature makes a difference on engine performance, too cold or too hot can seriously affect performance. A good running range is about 65 to 80° Fahrenheit. The Piston rod from the cylinder to the flywheel should be checked to make sure it is straight, they bend easily with your fingers, check it to make sure it is straight. Don't try to boost the heat by using a torch, you'll just fry the internal o-ring seals, alcohol burner only. The maximum RPM for the engine is about 1500, if the generator is connected you will get a drain as the engine tries to rotate the generator, slowing it down. Mine is over a year old and has not had a single part replaced, (normal wear parts such as pulley bands or o-ring seals) the trick to long life is not to overheat it. Remember the engine functions on exothermic heat, not internal combustion, whatever heat you apply to the cylinder head determines speed and torque. If you want maximum RPM's remove the pulley belt to the generator. If you follow these basic guidelines you will get the maximum efficiency, the longest life and the most fun of this neat and well-made engine. Unless you have experience as a tinkerer or tool jockey I suggest you don't take the engine apart if not needed, if you can handle the simple mechanics then be my guest, this review is simply to help the beginner with only rudimentary mechanical skills, a primer so to speak.

This is one of if not the coolest little knick knacks I’ve ever bought. The durable, all metal design with a touch of chrome makes this really appealing. For the fuel, I used denatured alcohol. It leaves no burn mark on the glass. To keep it from getting a burn stain, light the candle outside of the engine so the wick can burn off all of the dry string first before fully burning the alcohol. In the video I showed how I used a jar opener gripper pad to completely stop the shaking off the table problem that most people complain about this product. The “ticking” noice in the video is just the glass jar rattling back and forth, holding everything in place the engine is as smooth as butter. The pictures on Amazon show a blue belt band connecting the engine to the generator, but mine came with a red one already on the engine, with a yellow spare band with the rest of the spare parts. I oiled the 2 sides where the thin metal pieces meet the flywheel with just a drop of oil. My only real complaint is the candle. Every now and then when I would run the engine for a while, the flame would run off the top a bit, but it could be because it’s not level? I’m not entirely sure, but other than that, this thing is a great conversation piece and toy that will last a lifetime. Worth the purchase.
