Got to love a wonderful historical romance. :)
Why oh why have I not read more historical romance novels. Being only my second HR Something Wonderful was just that, something wonderful. This story had me captivated right from the beginning. I quickly found myself submerged into the world of the characters and experiencing something different.I truly loved Jordan and Alexandra’s story. I guess you could say it was love at first sight for Alexandra. It may have been because she was naïve but I would like to believe it was because her heart was pure. Jordan was a bit jaded and cold hearted. His use for women was simple. It was solely for a physical need. He knew no other way.“I love life, even when bad things happen to me. I can't stop loving it. Every season of the year comes with a promise that something wonderful is going to happen to me someday.” ~ AlexandraAs these two worlds collide we watch Alexandra blossom and Jordan soften. As Alexandra struggles to fit into Jordan’s world and meet his demands Jordan begins to question all he has been taught in regards to feelings and emotions. Just when their lives become suitable tragedy strikes and Alexandra is left devastated and trying to cope.Time passes and things change...people change. But what becomes apparent to both Alexandra and Jordan is the beauty each of them gives to the other. But as Jordan is dealing with something unbeknownst to Alexandra, misunderstandings happen which leads to.....well you have to read the book to find out. :) But...Pain is shared and special moments are made. There is happiness and heartache. There is lust, desire and tenderness.I’ll be putting this on my bookshelf for now but I will certainly pull it out again and reread some of the chapters I loved the most. There was so many things I. The way the book is written your able to form these beautiful pictures in your head. Maybe it is where Jordan and Alexandra share a picnic or the place the go fishing and make love on the hill side, or when they go to a Ball. Or all the beautiful flowers. I also enjoyed all the side characters and what they added to the story. They brought humor and some cynicism which rounded things out."Now that you've said all those other things," she whispered when he finally lifted his lips from hers several minutes later, "do you think you could possibly say 'I love you'? I've been waiting to hear that since you began and—""I love you," he said fiercely. "I love you," he whispered softly, burying his face in her hair. I love you…” ~ JordanHow did I stumble upon this book you might wonder? It really was only one review that had me one-clicking. Well you can’t download this to your kindle but there is something special about sitting down with an old fashion bounded book.

Another Fantastic Tale by JM
“What is it you think is going to happen?”Alexandra shivered deliciously. “Something wonderful."There is always something about historical romance that can get me out of a book slump. There’s just something about them that pulls on my heart strings with their one of a kind love stories. And Something Wonderful didn’t disappoint. When seventeen-year-old Alex, daughter of a lord and a commoner, saves Jordan, the Duke of Hawthorne from some highwaymen, well that’s when something wonderful begins. It isn’t all flowers and rainbows—that’s what I love about Judith McNaught’s novels. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions.Jordan is a rake, player—call him what you want. He does not deserve Alex. She has “life is wonderful” goggles over her eyes; is kind, selfless, so trusting, and so naïve. She thinks of Jordan as a god, when he’s nothing but a libertine.I had a smile on my face the entire beginning of Something Wonderful. After certain circumstances arise, Jordan and Alex are forced into a marriage. Neither wants it. But Alex makes it known that she will accept it. And her young heart immediately falls for Jordan. God, I was cringing at her naivety and declarations of love, for only Jordan to say “Thank you.” But it was also so endearing to me. It showed my black heart how selfless and true young love can be. And hers was. When Jordan disappears and is declared dead, Alex is broken. But it was her husband’s wish that she be accepted into society, and so she worked hard to become what he wanted. At first, she was so naïve, and so in love with Jordan that she made a fool of herself, because she didn’t know the kind of man he was. She was unknowingly complimenting his mistresses' looks, and becoming the laugh of the ton. Until she changes it all around and realizes how Jordan had played her, and who he really was. When Jordan returns, it’s to find Alex about to marry his cousin. The only reason he got through the torture he’d been through, was thoughts of getting back to her. He realized she was it for him, and he wanted a life with her. A five star read for me if I didn’t find some parts a bit slow. But still a very enjoyable one, nonetheless.Something Wonderful takes us on a journey of jealously, betrayal, lust and love. Another great one by Judith McNaught, and I’d absolutely recommend to lovers of historical romance."Something wonderful had happened."

Once again, ENCHANTED! <3<3
There truly is something wonderful about McNaught's storytelling. Once I escape to one of her stories, there's no other place I'd rather be. This is the 5th novel I read by the author and even though it's not my favorite, it's just as sigh-worthy as the rest.4.5 WONDERFUL STARSWhat I loved:->That old-school plot <3->alpha hero (a historical romance guarantee)->likable heroine <3 I especially loved reading how she blossoms from a girl into a woman.“my little sparrow turned into a beautiful swan.”->laugh out loud moments :D->endearing main/secondary characters->addictive angst->how beautifully McNaught reprises the title at the end (sigh) It's her "signature."What I didn't love:->Slow start->The hero is quick to marry the heroine after being accused of compromising her virtue. He was characterized as being cold, selfish and cynical (due to his past) but he immediately agrees to marry her... out of pity. Huh..->The heroine was way, WAY too naive with regard to the birds and bees.->A few parts of the story felt a bit melodramatic. To avoid spoilers, I'll just say it was the way Alexandra and Jordan meet and the way a mystery is resolved.JORDAN:"Oh, he was handsome enough, she conceded reluctantly—devastatingly so, in fact, but only if one were drawn to dark, blatantly aggressive, wickedly sensual men, which she assuredly was not."Well color me GUILTY. I am absolutely drawn to this type of hero and McNaught hit the nail right on the head with Jordan.“He was the stuff of which young ladies’ dreams were made—tall, dark, and fatally handsome, with the devil’s own charm."“You slay with a glance. You don’t need a sword."ALEX:"She had the mind of a scholar, the heart of an innocent, and the wit of a sage. One minute she was bold and daring enough to aim a rifle and kill a man who was trying to kill him—the next minute she was unconscious from shock because she had done it."The girl sure had enough spunk and wisdom to balance out her innocent disposition.QUOTES:“If women were forthright and blunt, we wouldn’t have been able to convince men that they are smarter, wiser, and braver than we are, when in truth you are superior to us only in the brute strength occasionally required to lift extremely heavy objects.”

Another fantastic read!!!!
I'm obsessed with this author. I can't believe I've never heard of her. In the last six weeks I've read seven of her books. Excellent writing, great characters arches, and extremely entertaining plots. I can't wait to read more!

They are so riddled with angst and emotional roller coasters with beautiful endings that just makes you sigh
5 stars because I've been a fan for decades.Spoilers abound!Started ordering the kindle version of JM's books simply because I was hooked on her books many years ago. They are so riddled with angst and emotional roller coasters with beautiful endings that just makes you sigh.Anyway Something Wonderful is typical of books from the 90s. Full of beautiful and flawed characters. It's unapologetic in its use of cliches and drama for the sake of drama. The only complications are the misunderstandings between h/h which is compounded by well-meaning friends. Who needs enemies?(Spoiler below)There are several flaws in the story as well. Some things are not fleshed out enough to satisfy my curiosity. For example, Hawk goes through a horrendous YEAR of torture and pain in a foreign land, for which he was taken for dead, but he just bounces back into London once he gets free. Not too much was spent on recovery or any ill effects. It's like "oh I spent a year in chains and tortured and nearly died, but I'm fine really. I'm more interested in going back to being this rich supercool Duke with ice running through my veins."They never even talk about it. I find that a major waste of plot line. And not even Alexandra (who at one time loved him unconditionally, before her blinders were removed that is) thought to ask or worry about it. Life, obviously goes on pretty quickly back then. The back and forth love/mistrust/jealousy/love roller coaster is jarring too. Good thing I've read this book a long time ago to know what to expect. One thing I learned is that reading JM's books at different stages in my life is quite enlightening lol.

Couldn’t put it down
This isn’t one of the talked about mcnaught books so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was blown away by it. This is one of my favorite books I’ve ever read. I loved that the Hero never does anything cruel to make you hate him. He’s kind and sweet and when he could turn cold and hurtful he realizes early on why Alexandra is acting the way she is and he spends the last 25% of the book trying to win her love. He isn’t always perfect but you can’t fault him because of his reasons. Alexandra is wonderful. She is everything a good heroine should be. The end of the book was probably the best ending I’ve ever read. I was sobbing and laughing hysterically at the same time. It was so so so romantic.

IT'S WONDERFUL....
"What is it you think is going to happen?"Alexandra shivered deliciously. "Something Wonderful"This book is a perfect blend of angst and romance. I loved Alexandra, but I loved Jordan more. He is simply 'irresistible'. I want to read it again and again and again. And it taught me to always believe that something wonderful is going to happen in life."Every season of the year comes with a promise that something wonderful is going to happen to me someday."

Is Wonderful
What a beautifully romantic novel so full of love, humor and you'll even cry. Judith McNaught comes through with a winner again as she writes thestory of a jaded young man trapped in a marriage with Alex, a very innocent girl. As Jordan decides he doesn't want Alex - she decides against Jordan. This book should have been a 10 star.
